I still think it’s a bit strange the Kynan was rated so low given that he’s performed so well and there could be a bit of egg on other club’s faces.

He has clean hands, great lateral movement, good vision, he’s quick enough, his disposal is acceptable, he has a great record of performance in underage competition, he’s stepped up whenever he’s gone up a level and most importantly he’s of very good character ( if we are to believe reports). Why he was only ever rated as a rookie chance I don’t know.

My suspicion is that he wasn’t rated in the top 40 or so and other clubs just let him go to us. Whatever the reason we’ve benefited from our good fortune as he’s certainly impressed, and not only in the match against Richmond but in all the preseason training where many, including me, have been impressed.

On exposed form this year he’s ahead of Langdon who was terrible against Richmond and looked totally disinterested. I reckon he’s right in the running for round zero.

    I chatted with someone in the know at training a couple of weeks ago and indicated that as you suspect, opposing clubs normally let a father-son prospect slide through if they are not top-end talent, hence how we got him easily. This club contact really rated the way he plays and also commented on his character being first rate. No surprise being the son of Doggy. A lot to like about him.

    I really hope that we don't gift games to Langdon and Hunter again this year. If the likes of Brown, Windsor and Woewodin outperform Langdon and Hunter during the pre season games, they absolutely should be selected for the Sydney game.

    As for Langdon, I can't put my finger on it but he seems to have gone a bit down hill since 2021. What's the difference between 2021 Langdon and 2023 into 2024 Langdon?

    He was just meh on Sunday. Not good, not bad. However he's certainly in my side for round zero.

    A mate and I were chatting about it Sunday at the game and he just seems to have lost something. I do question if he is working as hard back and forth as he did in 2021. But then maybe what they are asking of him has changed.

    Ed is definitely not the human dynamo that he was up until mid ‘22, he suffered a pretty nasty rib injury and hasn’t reached his previous heights since. It’s not that long ago when Ed was very highly rated on this site and around the club, he was discussed regularly in the Wingers club on the Gus & Gawny podcast and polled regular votes on the DLand best player award. I really hope for Langers and us that he can regain his A grade game. At 28 he should be at his peak??

    On Sunday K9 showed a great ability to be where the ball was - bobbing up in deep defence, then deep forward. Composed, executes well, good game sense. Other small forwards would have raised an eyebrow?

    As for Kynan Brown I remember during draft night wondering why we frittered away picks whilst not snapping the kid up given his performance in the Coates League and Metro MVP Award winner, only me but I thought it was a bit insulting. So glad that we picked him up as he really shone on Sunday against the Tiges. Feel he will play a lot of footy for us, well done Kynan “pup” Brown.!

    I must admit I'm very excited about not only hearing how impressive Brown has been at training but also his potential going into next year.

    He's clearly made a statement with the condition he's come back in but also coming 2nd in the 2km time trial which is an impressive feat for a second year player.

    His form at Casey was underrated this year and I wouldn't be surprised if he's in our best 23 come the end of next year as a half forward midfielder. He is my pick to replace ANB.

    Tough and quick left footer that reminds me a lot of Kieren Jack who was also a tough and honest midfielder for Sydney.

    That’s just because you haven’t seen much of him yet, he has all the same weaknesses of Chandler and without the overhead marking and burst power.

    Time trial result was excellent but otherwise I’m not sure where the positive reports are coming from. Pulled out of every training I’ve been to for rehab running.

    I’m glad he’s having a red hot crack and keen to see more but I need to actually see him doing some main drills before I see much reason for optimism.

    So interested in what you see as Chandler's weaknesses and/or if you see him as best 22 long term material?

    Personally I do rate Chandler for his general tenacity, workrate, ability to find the goals on a fairly regular basis and his reliability in nailing the set shots opportunities he gets.  If you're suggesting he's a good overhead mark for his size, then I'd agree with that too.  I also get the feeling that he's well liked around the club for his good character and willingness to do the team things.

    I really like Chandler as a rock solid role player and probably our best young leader.

    To me he just lacks that burst or high end speed to really zoom away from defenders, he can be a little fumbly and he's just not a really quick creative ball user.

    He impressed me with stints on the wing at the end of the year and I wish they'd just let him have a few centre bounce attendances, his tackling should hold him in good stint and he'd give a difference mix than usual

    Agree a far more complete footballer. Chin had a lack lustre second half in 2024 and will need to lift to make our best 23 in Round1.

    He is one of, if not fastest player at the club. Top speeds in games last season were published in an article in the site.

    I think people scratch around for reasons that often don’t exist to not like chin.

    Big fan of Chin and everything he brings to the team. My hope for him is that he is more consistent in his football. The last 2 seasons he has started off the season really well but fades out towards the back half of the year.

    Chandler is just a jobber and the club knows it which is why he get linked to quality small forwards in the draft each year (Watson, Berry)

    Difficult to follow your point. Chandler is obviously being considered for a leadership role by the club.

    Doubly difficult given being 'linked to quality small forwards in the draft each year' is a strange evidence to use to suggest the club thinks Chandler is a 'jobber'.

    For one thing he is more a flanker than a crumbing forward in the Watson mold.

    And in Koz we already have arguably the best small forward in the AFL.

    But 'being linked' to players in the draft is not the same as actually selecting a particular player or player type.

    I mean, we had two high and one late draft pick this year so could have used one to actually select a small forward if we really wanted one.

    But didn't. 

    Perhaps that is evidence the club thinks Chandler is the best small forward in the AFL.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

      What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
