I am another who thinks the old traditional GF replay to kick start the season, sick of waiting for first game of year just to have to sit through another Carlton [censored] show

No. We need to play Gold Coast or GW$

Fill the MCG with Demons.

We can Play Footscray in Round 2-3

Round 1 after winning the flag is big enough without needing the dogs as an opponent.

I don't give a rats who we play actually, once I am there!

We'll get a decent crown anyway in rd 1. Might as well make it a celebrations and get off to a good start against a lowly team .

Let's use a replay of the GF to draw a big crowd later when we're up and running and the crowds need a boost,

I’d rather ease into it, just make it another game. Not a ‘Grand Final’ replay or a team like the Cats who the media are trying to make out we have some big rivalry with.

Yep, I'm not a fan at all of requesting to play Footscray in Round 1.

I feel its not really at all humble unfurling the flag in their faces, in fact it could make the difference given how close some teams are in terms of mental application.

We talk about 'respecting' our opponents, well this isn't it for mine.

I don't think we should bite off more than we can chew.

Spot on.  We're about respecting others as a club and having the Dogs is downright rude.

In the past the Tiges have done it on a hursday night, not all club unfurl in Round 1. (Eagles in 2019 the most recent, Hawks in 2016)

No real pattern, except the dogs did it on a sunday arvo at 3.20 which I like the sound of.   Plenty of kids should have the opportunity to go. Not a night game please.

Let’s play the Poos. For the last 15 years, there’s been something weirdly satisfying about watching Carlton have their hopes, dreams and expectations extinguished on the first day of the season. Let this not be another tradition that is trashed.

They could unfurl the flag while playing freed from desire.

The Poos? First thought typo, must be the Roos, no maybe the Poos & Wees (Hawks). But no, the Blues, don't get me wrong I hate them (Barassi, Wells, Spalding, McLean, O'Mac) well maybe not the last 2, but really do we want them first up? I want Geelong at the G

Not best for poor old Uncle Bitter returning to The Manor at around midnight [censored] !!

I don’t think we’re the home team for either of the queens bday or Anzac eve games are we?

if that’s the case - the season opener could be the last two premiers playing each other….Dees v Tiges…. or if that doesn’t fly

dees v pies to cash in on not being the home team for 2 of our blockbusters next year…..

Round 2. The premiers shouldn't unfurl the flag agains the team they beat - it's bad form.

Give the wooden spooner a chance to claim the ultimate scalp, or the Premier to get the dream start in front of a home crowd.

It won't be Collingwood or Richmond - we'll only get them once in 2022! 😄

Why does there have to be a big deal made of it? Why can’t we just play whomever, wherever.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
