Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Are you saying Jacko for all of that?? I assume this is a joke.

Melb In > 13, 25, F1st (Freo), F2nd (North), F3rd (North) and Treacy
Freo In > Jackson

There's no way Freo would do that.  I know the pick values can be misleading but that equates to Pick 1, Pick 8 and Treacy (when they have as many young key forward options as we do)

The equation of points is probably meaningless, as we wanted 2 picks inside 10 and I don’t think they will get near that, so more later picks can do the job.

If it was pick 1 and pick 8 without Treacy we would have done the deal the minute trade week started but of course they wouldn’t. My plan is more picks, yes, but that they already have.

I am throwing in Treacy,  a Victorian kid they are not really playing, who may want to go home soon, as they are preferring Amiss, a local. He would not be the deal breaker of course just a wish list spit ball from me.

I am just fearful we are going to get crunched because of Bell.

Come on down Eagles !!!

Jim it’s interesting the posts and views on this.

You think we are getting screwed over on my suggestion, while another poster has said Freo would be. That suggest to me that maybe my suggestion is reasonable in the circumstances, where Freo has no picks inside 10 and we want two of them.

I think I can guarantee one thing, whatever the deal we do for LJ it will divide DL, whereas the deal for Grundy, accepting that some don’t want him, will be broadly accepted on DL.

Agree that deal is absurd.
We must get in 13, their future 1st and north’s future 2nd. We could throw back a future 3rd (or future 2nd at a stretch)

We have asked for 2 picks inside 10, is that absurd?

You suggest 13, F1st say 13, North F2 say 21 and we give back even our F2nd at a stretch.

I think that is absurd.

We are being told that maybe around pick 10 this draft is average.

So maximising  picks st least gives us the chance to bundle and improve them.

How about...

Jackson and pick 44 to Freo for pick 13, Future 1st, and (North's) Future 2nd

Picks 13 and 27 to Geelong for pick 7 - Geelong use 13 for Bruhn

Grundy to Dees for Freo's (North's) future 2nd

Dees trade 7 and our future 2nd to GWS for 15 and 19

Dees end up with Grundy, 15, 19 and future 1st for Jackson, 27, 44 and a future 2nd

Not bad LN but I don’t think we need to send a pick to Freo in the first part of the deal, also don’t think we would trade back down from 7 if we were to get it.

I heard on the radio that Freo currently have pick 13 and pick 88...

I am really lost now on how they're able to satisfy us with what we're after.

Freo have royally [censored] themselves over.

How much does Freo want Jackson that is pretty much what this comes down to. If they want him bad enough they will either go First Round and Future First or force someone else out of their club to make it happen. I don't know, that's not my problem, it's theirs to sort out.

If they decide that he's not worth giving up something substantial to get than they can send an apology email withdrawing from the race. It shouldn't get to that, they clearly want him and will need to get creative here. I'm sure Pied Piper Bell can get it done.

They actually have 13, 88, F1st say 13, North F2nd say 21, North F 3rd say 39.

They will get say around 25 if they  clear Lobb.

That is probably the deck of cards, plus players.

So is the idea that we would happily take 13, F1st and F2nd (or 25 this yr) but Freo are baulking? Or are we wanting them to grow that 13 into a top 10 pick before talking?

Good question, initially I thought they were saying they would give two firsts but were insisting on a second rounder back but who knows.

Ah my bad, I was referring to Cadman rather than Ginbey. I do recall you mentioning earlier in the year about us talking to Ginbey prior to the champs. Our talent spotters really are on the ball.

All good, I would love to land Sheezal or Cadman.

Woewodin is Ginbey’s line coach so no doubt has been in constant communication with the FD

Freo are trying to force us to take 13 and a future 1st for Jackson.

Wouldn't surprise me if they trade out or try to trade out 13 and screw us even further

I trust that Lamb and Taylor are speaking with some of Freo's more fancied players to put the heat on Bell

Many watchers are saying this draft tapers off significantly after the first 5-6 picks. Hope we can work back into that range

The bit that makes me nervous in all of this is that Wet Toast are sitting back and waiting to see what Freo offer, rather than getting on the front foot and setting a benchmark. It just allows Freo to push this to the death which a) gives them a greater chance of dealing Lobb late and keeping the return b) let’s WC get tempted/distracted by other offers (which is highly possible given they are considered outsiders to get Jackson).

Hoping that Lamb sets a timeline on offers from both clubs (which should be after we deal for Grundy) such that Freo aren’t dictating the play

I wouldn't put it past Freo to suddenly put a good player up for trade that doesn't want to go.

I legitimately don't know how you can target a player like LJ and not be able to get the deal done quickly. It shows a complete detachment from reality/naivety.

Bell loves the drama

But as Dogga is OOC and WCE have shown little interest, Freo know they have the upper hand

Freo look like they were completely underprepared for this deal so we need to hold out  for the best that suits us and screw them

And the question stills hangs out there - what happens if both WA clubs offer tripe for LJ?

Does he do the right thing and sign a new contract with MFC or does he screw the MFC and run home and give us the bird

I'd be a little nervous if I was him - looms as the meat in the sandwich if you ask me

Fremantle have had plenty of time it seems to get their house in order to do a fair trade but look miles off doing so atm

He'll get to Freo. Just lots of back and forth about the finer details going on behind the scenes IMO.

There can be interconnected deals all going on at once - perhaps something to do with us trading part of what we get for Jackson - so it can be a bit messy and lots of back and forth with multiple clubs. Even more so with a club like us who seem to have a more holistic plan for trade period. Just gotta hold tight I think.

The additional 2nd rounder was mooted if the 13 was the best offer from the 2022 list snd a future 1st rounder was included in the trade from 2023.

Ultimately we'll have to take 13 + F1st if WC can't bid Freo up to improve it.  I wouldn't force LJ to the PSD to make a point if that's the final offer, I'd take it and move on.

Maybe right but IMO that would equate to us getting a very poor return in investment

I don’t think Freo will make finals next year (Losing Mundy who was still playing well, Logue finished high in their B&F, Acres, Tucker, lose Lobb or he’s super unhappy. Other clubs figured them out in the second half of the year. They are very young and any injuries will really test their depth). So I think their F1 will be a top ten pick. The F2 from North will probably be one of the first picks of the 2nd round in a stacked draft. If it’s anything like previous years those first few picks on the second draft should become super valuable.
Throwing back a F2 would be stupid I agree on second thought, an F3 would be fair.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
