I certainly hope you are right.

The rule pretty much only exists to stop silly clubs like North trying to offer 5x future first rounders for a single player

I personally think clubs should be able to trade several years into the future if they wanted to

If this ever happens, the priority pick has to be completely scrapped.

You do wonder how this effects the morale in the team. Could it be a distraction or are they able to just brush it off mentally.

What?

If and a big if it is true, the players would just brush it off, unlike supporters.

Nathan Jones also cited the example of Tom Boyd whereby earning an exorbitant amount of money for a 21-22 year old  can actually do more harm than good for one’s mental heath.

The pressure of being the highest paid player at the club at such a young age could really be harmful to a kid’s development.

Jones advised to LJ to re-consider the Freo offer by staying at MFC where he can still learn off Gawn, earn a bit less money and relieve himself of excessive scrutiny and pressure.

Does anyone think Jye Amiss is worth taking a look at from Freo?

Spoke to a couple of Freo supporting mates who said he’s a little hit and amiss.

That's better. I genuinely couldn't understand that first part.

Yeah I personally don't think it'll be a distraction within the playing group, but who knows really.

Everyone knows it. If he was to speak to independent experts, 9/10 would advise him to stay another 2 years at least.

I doubt the LJ situation is a distraction for the group. If he was a core player maybe but reality is he's a 3rd year player and understudy to Maxy. Can provide some cameos and has great potential but he is not central to our chnaces of success this year. future years he definitely is but not at the moment.

Maxy, Trac, clarry, Rick will be focussed on the prize, not distracted at all i reckon. DL very distracted but not the leaders in the team

Hard to argue with that logic. But how does Gus fit into this theory?

I'd love to have a wager on that.

Yep, this.

Yep couldn't agree more. Paying over the odds for what a player might become works out poorly more often than successfully. This also has nothing to do with whether or not people think he's a generational talent. It's just bad business for a club who needs a forward to splash on someone who has 9 goals and 16 contested marks for the year.

Aside from Jones, none of the others are any good (including Cox). I would prefer LJ to stay but I see we are losing a second ruck who does not kick goals or take marks often when forward. I will back us in to maximise the picks, players and salary relief this offers to continue to improve our list. A young key forward should be at the top of it but you can only work with what’s available. A maturing ruckman with upside (Meek is a one worth considering) is also something that should be part of the planning.

Yep, if we can get another young tall to compliment JVR that might work really nicely given TMac and Brown probably have 2-3 years left. JVR and the new kid can develop at VFL level until they push out the two senior guys. But we want elite talent here. Top 10 talent.

People love a good diatribe though they can't help it. Like mosquitos to a zapper.

For an article titled “How Freo can land unicorn”, the author spent very little time explaining how Freo can in fact land the unicorn.

Yep, all focussed on how they can fit him in the cap, not how they satisfy a trade

It does give Melbourne the upper hand in a trade imo. If you’re moving out multiple best 22 players just to get the blokes salary covered, it makes it hard to lowball in a trade. They’re going to this extent they have to pony up to get it done.

If Jackson was to stay for 2 years than leave but by doing so cost us Brayshaw I’d rather he go at seasons end and Gus remains a demon for life.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
