I am confident that if theย  MFC rated him as the unicorn, surely they would have offered a longer contract extension?

They did.ย

I don't mind him going so much as walking away thinking we didn't even get a top 10 pick for him

He didn't do us any favours serving up that tripe in the finals against Swans & Lions.ย

The only reason more supporters arenโ€™t angry about this charade is because we won a flag last year with Jackson playing a big part. But guess what, we would have won it even without him. Would he have been a RS, a premiership player or gotten a $7,000,000 contract without Melbourne? No he wouldnโ€™t have. Seems ungrateful.ย
ย

Donโ€™t wish him ill of course, but donโ€™t wish him luck either. The grass isnโ€™t always greener Jackson.ย
Enjoy the WA bubble. Youโ€™ll sure as hell want to perform now!

Don't disagree with that, I am definitely calmer than other departures we've had. While I'm not 100% happy with the deal or how this has gone down it is a much better place to be in than pre 2021 mentally and that extra 10% of bitterness I used to carry round isn't there anymore.ย

We have a great list and can challenge without Jackson, players we have retained all make up the body of a great cake.ย Luke was great but when it comes down to it he was icing on the cake, at this point of his career anyway. Will always looik fondly on his time here but I'm hoping he doesn't set the world on fire at Freo.ย

So...

Met directly with Freo mid year in-contract with MFC โŒ

Said later in the year he hadn't thought too much about a new contract and was focused on footy โŒ

Once Dogga indicated he was returning to WA was open to either club โŒ

MFC said during trade time the Dogga hadn't indicated which club โŒ

Honestly, what a dumb [censored] Dogga is. Surely his manager would've told him emphatically to not say anything too revealing, just thank MFC and the fans, say he's happy to be home and that he looks forward to playing footy next year. Amongst the most stupid things he could've said was that he met with Freo mid year and decided then that he was leaving to go there

Most of it was pretty standard stuff but I cannot for the life of me understand why he said he met with Freo mid year. Say what you want about Scully but at least he knew how to play the system and say all the right things.ย

Anyone know which players this bloke manages?

Could've got 8, Cerra --> Jackson, 2nd rounder....

I'm happy with the deal that we ended up getting

There was what he was actually worth vs a truckload of potential and/or what we originally paid for Jackson (pick 3)

In raw terms an underperforming player with no more than C+ output wouldn't normally attract 2 x first rounders and a 2nd rounder

Not even close

At one stage I fell into the hype of generational talent but is that really going to happen?ย  I've changed my mind on his future worth andย  reckon his best might be B or B+ (or less)

This year he learned very quickly that opposition ruckman play for keeps. He lacked physicality and lacked presence

For a supposed prototype midfielder of the future, he fell way short

Poor outcome.ย  Rolled over on this and be lucky if we get a pick at 15 or so once the academy picks play out.ย  Just hope we don't cave on the Grundy trade as well and end up giving them pick 13.

Shouldve been two 1sts or no deal...send to the PSD!

Very poor results so far at the trade table.

Have lost speed and skills / finess (Hunt / Bedford) which is exactly what we need more of (Hunt borderline but still cant afford to lose speed across HB... who's his replacement?) in 2023 for a lumbering Ruckman who may or may not be capable of bringing his best from a few seasons back.ย  Even if he does get back to somewhere near his best we have not really gained anything with the loss of Jackson in 2023 for not much immediate return.ย  Neautral outcome in this area at best.

The only real potential shining light at this point is the entre' of JVR but can't expect miracles from the youngster in his first season.

Expect we might just scrape into the eight in 2023 but that's about it.ย  Plenty of teams going past us now (list wise).

This is what happens when you don't utilise your list throughout the year and find out who's up for the challenge and who isn't (at senior level).

2021 a great year for SG & the FD

2022 Great start / first half but poor finish and list poorly managed in general by SG & the FD IMV.ย  Also some of the boys (including leaders/more senior blokes) talked too much talk and didn't walk the walk in the back half.ย  Complacency set in a little IMO.

Can we finally stop bagging Jackson.

He is a very good player that will get even better, we all know that. He served us as well as any young big man could given he was still only 20yo when he played his last game with us. We don't all appreciate that.

He is a kid that wants to go home to family and play with the club he barracked for.ย  He is one of the 23 Premiersip players in the picture I have on my wall and I will be eternally grateful for that.ย

Are we allowed to boo Luke now?

It's fair enough he wants to go home because he's been playing football in Mozambiqueย

I hope we donโ€™t move on till we reach 300 pages - then letโ€™s burn it. ย 300 pages of questionable quality at best. Kind of reflective of LJโ€™s last half of the season.

I truly believe the club did not handle the Jackson deal well.ย  We got way unders in my view.ย  Let's see what happens now with the little remaining trade period and draft.

Yes I was rude and no haven't been to Sydney and ain't going there either. My Dad lives in Deer Park so maybe that counts as the Western Suburbs. I get the bus from Sunshine. Don't worry i live in a part of Casey that most Melbourne supporters wouldn't want to be seen dead in.ย

How many 20 year olds play in the ruck at AFL level? Most'll still be developing at VFL level till their mid 20s.

LJ on trade radio right now.

I think a lot of good will perished with the report that heโ€™d toured the Dockers facilities and made up his mind to go there, halfway through the season.ย

People will get over it, but it wasnโ€™t the classiest move.ย

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
