It’ll be 13 and their future first. Can’t see how freo trade into the top 10.
if we end up with Grundy, 13 and a f1 in exchange for Jackson and 2 round pick I think on balance that’s an ok outcome.

In terms of freo and Peter bellend I’ll be joyfully death riding freo first rounder. I can’t think of anything more satisfying that watching them tank next year. I won’t be surprised if they miss finals and we end up with a top 10 pick anyways.

I'd be heavily pushing for Norf's 2023 2nd rounder (probably pick 19?) to be included

Have we surpassed the length of the Hogan thread yet?

Feels like it. Was that the one where the biscuits discussion came about during the lull in trade period?

That sounds vaguely familiar. Just checked and the page count on Hogan currently stands at 484

We got some work to do!

Honestly, Freo can GAGF. They've been courting Luke for ages, and now just expect us to accept unders. Get stuffed

Freo are douchebags. This is eerily similar to what happened with Hogan in 2018. We wanted two early first rounders, Freo wouldn't budge. We ended up accepting "unders" of pick 6 (May) and 23 (Sparrow). May alone helped get us a flag and Sparrow looks like he'll be a 150 gamer. Freo got two dud years out of Hogan then offloaded him to GWS for a fourth rounder - and now he's rediscovering his best form again with the Giants. Hope the karma bus hits them again. Would be great if they tanked it next year and that future first became a top 5 pick.

I’m so over Freo being twats about this, they know they are getting a future superstar, possibly 200+ game legend but what they are putting up is saying “meh he’s alright”. Pull you’re F-ing fingers out and do a proper deal that’s befitting the deal they have put in front of LJ.

I know this is irrational but I’m at a point where I’d rather him go to WC for nothing than end up at Freo with them being such fI0gs about it.

Offer up next years 2nd rounder and I’ll take the deal, I wish (I would hope) we did some research on their list to try to find players that we could poach for this deal to happen. Is there no Melbourne born players on their list that we could get them to hand over as a deal finaliser?

In all honesty what leverage do we have? Hope Peter Bellend does the right the thing and pays fair compensation? Good luck with that

Luke just has to threaten to resign with MFC. The fact that he is mingling with the Freo players already is just unprofessional.

He should have stayed here until the deal was signed and be seen getting photographed with documents in hand leaving MFC HQ.

The guy is a peanut and despite his best intention is just as responsible for contributing to this colossal f up of a situation.

Hope Viney runs straight through him at the centre bounce.

We could've held Hogan to his contract though so it's different. There was an element of us wanting to get rid of him.

That's the thing. We've got nothing to stand on here. WC haven't put up an offer to us, they haven't even convined LJ to join them.

If this trade gets done it's going to be us who cave, because we're not going to let him walk to the PSD for nothing.

Everyone knew he wanted to go home last year. He should have requested his trade then right after his grand final performance where his value was at its highest. Fremanlte had pick 6, 8, and 19 last year.

Honestly, I'd be comfortable with slightly 'unders' compared to what many people are anticipating.

2022 and 2023 first round draft picks, some salary cap offload which will help a lot in future, and a good mood all round.

Fremantly will give him a fairly long contract on big money at the end of which he'll ask to be traded back to us in 5 or 6 year's time when Gawn retires.

It’s a fair point, again you can only hope that the club spoke with him to see what he was thinking. Now let’s keep in mind this is a very young man still working out who he is but if he had an inkling that he would want to go home it seems massive own goal on our end not to push the deal then and there.

I don’t any Melbourne fans would’ve begrudged it as well as we still would’ve been riding the premiership highs.

They had Cerra as well. He would have been included in the deal for sure

Jacko would have said very little to us directly. The agents are the mouthpieces so as to deliberately obfuscate true intentions

Honestly it's not as simple as looking the bloke in the eye - it's all very guarded

Yeah much more to play with last year. Cerra as well.

I still think the trade may end up being Freo's 13, Freo's 2023 1st and North's 2023 2nd. Then we might try to flip 13 and North's 2023 2nd, to go up the order.

Yes but if we just got everything we wanted we'd all be barracking for Geelong.

There is solace in the fact that Freo have and probably will never win a flag.

Him only signing 1 year after his initial contract was a red flag. Almost all draftees sign 2.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
