Did you read what I wrote?

Tracc is someone that needs to be constantly involved in the game, he's not opportunistic and therefor provides little value as a stay at home forward

    Whatever happens, the club has handled this in a very mature way that will be noticed by the players and the agents trying to help 20 year olds with life changing decisions.

    I hope he stays of course, am sure that we will be fine if he does leave which leads me to the only truth; if LJ stays, Brodie Grundy won’t be a Demon.

    Yeh, unless Max is carrying an injury I'd rather Gawn at 50-70% time in the ruck. Dogga can play more forward and provide some mobility to our forward line. Dogga is more handy when the ball hits the ground so is a tough match up for a defender. Once the ball hits the ground when Max is there he's just about out of the game and our forward entries are very predictable lobbing the ball into him or Brown.

    Haselby should know based on his Freo connections, however, we spoke to a couple of Player Managers based in Pert yesterday and the feeling is Jackson will be at Freo next year. 

    If Jacko does go, I’m extremely confident that Grundy will be at the Dees.

    I was stuck at home today, so I tried to find a way for Melbourne to get value for Jackson (if he doesn't re-sign with us).

    I tried to channel our list managers focus on overall outcomes and came up with this 6-club megadeal which actually kinda makes sense.

    Things we know or are strongly rumoured about this draft are:
    1. Brisbane need points for Ashcroft & Jaspa Fletcher.
    2. Western Bulldogs and Lobb are interested in each other.
    3. Rankine wants to go back to SA.

    Preconditions for this megadeal to work:
    1. West Coast need to be willing to split their #2 pick (makes sense to bring in a crop of WA youngsters)
    2. Gold Coast need to be willing to trade up from #5 (acquired via Rankine) and #7 to #2 (this could be the opportunity cost required to have a shot at Cadman)

    Anyway, in the end the Dees would end up with Pick 5, Pick 20, Freo's 2023 1st round, Gold Coasts 2023 2nd round and Meek or Treacy. We would be giving up Jackson and our 2023 1st round (hopefully #18). 

    The full ins and outs are below. Is it a Win-Win-Win-Win-Win-Win deal?

    Twoomey also reckons hopper is with two first rounders (be it two late teen first rounders) 

    by that logic Jackson would be worth 8 first rounders

    Indeed I have watched him and cannot see what makes him a gun? In fact he ranks elite in only one AFL metric which is goal accuracy only because he almost never takes shots at goal. 
    Don’t get me wrong a decent but average footballer in the afl landscape, only guns should be traded for 2 first rounders, he has not proven to be a gun.

    Hopper is still contracted, hence has more currency.

    Right up there as the funniest things I read on here.

    Clearly never seen the bloke play and a good case having your rosy red and blue glasses on here.

    Jacob Hopper was in the All Australian squad of 40 last year as a 24 year midfielder who averaged 26.3 disposals per game. Back in 2019 as a 22 year he was averaging 26.q disposal per game.

    If he doesn't kick enough goals by your reckoning then what does that say about Clayton Oliver who barely kicks goals himself?

    An absolute insult to Hopper that anyone would think Sparrow would offer more as a player. 

    There is a reason why a club like Richmond who have won 3 premierships in 5 years are chasing Hopper extremely hard. Enough said.

    Jackson hasn't proven to be a gun. We should settle for a 1st round pick by your logic.

    Clayton doesn’t only touch the ball 19 times a game, you would expect a player playing as many midfield minutes as hopper you would have more than 19 touches with bugger all score involvements. 
     

    If you read my post you would see I said baulking at his value of two first rounders, and compared him statistically to Sparrow, which the numbers do not lie. 

    One season in what 8 making the AA 40 squad doesn’t give you a value of 2 first rounders. 
    He isn’t all Australian, as you alluded to he is a pure mid that has only ever averaged 26 touches in his best season, he doesn’t kick goals, he has little score involvements… so yes I am perplexed at the potential trade value of 2 first rounders.

    Jackson isn’t 7 years into the system and stagnated. 
    Jackson has proven big game experience and played a vital role in a flag winning team. 
    Jackson isn’t in abundance, I hate the term but he is a unicorn.

    Jackson’s value is evident by freo offering 800k plus for a 20 year olds signature.

    • NON-MFC: Round 09

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos.     • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
