We play a system at all levels, and the better it’s mimicked at Casey the better it is for everyone. Yep, and we have Jones, Jetta and VB off the list. So adding a bit of experience of a 26 year old is a good move providing he comes with a great attitude and only a one or two year deal. 1 Quote
YesitwasaWin4theAges 6,819 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) If he fits in Salary cap wise and wants to come and accepts his role within our organisation, im on board with it. Some experienced heads leaving this year so our age demographic can keep some experience on our list. Edited October 5, 2021 by YesitwasaWin4theAges 1 Quote
Whispering_Jack 31,367 Posted October 5, 2021 Author Posted October 5, 2021 Anyone remember his debut In the opening round of 2014 for St Kilda against Melbourne. They got hold of us in the third quarter and Dunstan was one of their best, earning AFL Rising Star nomination that night. Depth is a thing you can’t have too much of these days and we could be getting a player who picked up a swag of Brownlow votes. 14 Quote

I'd prefer to see a depth spot used on a kid like Woewodin instead of a slow hack like Dunstan. Jordon can play a role in the midfield as can Melk but both have limitations. For JJ, it is strength. For Melk it is defensive skills and repeat efforts. You wouldn't start either of these guys too often in the centre square. What you could do is possibly start Dunstan there if one of Viney or Oliver go down. He can extract the pill, can tackle and is a big body. We really don't have much backup in this area and is obviously an area we have identified. 3 Quote
Cheesy D. Pun 1,765 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Given Tim Lamb's comments regarding a focus on adding experienced mids to compliment our young brigade, this would seem a logical pickup. 4 Quote
Jibroni 5,056 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Jarryd Lyons was a delisted free agent when Brisbane picked him up, you never know. 6 Quote

Sean Balor 49 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) Anyone else see the news tonight about Luke Dunstan potentially joining us tomorrow? Free Agent, so we don't need to trade to get him. Good for depth? Edited October 5, 2021 by Sean Balor 1 Quote
WERRIDEE 5,638 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 This has surprised me. I thought he wanted more game time. Good get as he is a quality VFL player. Hopefully he doesn't get games ahead of Sparrow and Jordon. Quote
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 I just don't get why. Is he going to be in our starting 22? I'm sure he's decent depth, but why would he come to us when he's unlikely to be getting gametime? It's basically a good pickup for Casey. 1 Quote

Gold Coast only want to rookie list him. They have trouble with the salary cap and list spots. Seems Melb. and Essendon have some sort of role for him. I reckon the club has identified help in the extractor role with Viney having constant battles with his foot. This season averaged 25 touches, five tackles and picked up 11 Brownlow votes in half a season. 3 Quote

Go the Biff 3,474 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 If Dunstan comes to us then he's backing himself in to be more than just depth. Good on him. Go your hardest son. Makes sense for us. Viney aside, we were KOTD with injuries to our starting mids this season. And after Sparrow & Jordon at 22 & 23 in the team, who is our next best mid ? Who can come in and play there immediately (don't say Melksham - he's not a mid) without us unbalancing our preferred line-up ? We don't have much now that a couple of our warriors have moved on Competition. Sparow and Jordon saw off challenges from the likes of Jones & AVB this year. They can't rest on that. Hopefully they read these reports & think "you're not getting my [censored] spot pal" and it spurs them onto be even better 15 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 We need midfield depth and he is a cheap plug and play option. Up to him if wants to battle it out on the fringes. There's a genuine shot for him to be part of a premiership team. That's gotta be enticing. 2 Quote
TeamPlayedFine39 8,525 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 We had a blessed run with injuries this year, yet AVB and Jones still got games- I’d rate Dunstan as at least their equal. Even as a ‘depth’ player he’d make our list better. No brainer. 5 Quote
