The problem with Rendall and SOS is they don't realise the midfield landscape has changed in the last 4 season from where 1 ruckman was okay to 2 good ruckmen, Geelong thumped by Port then bring in Ratugolea and thump GWS, Bulldogs bring in Martin and thump Port but Melbourne having the best 2 ruckmen combination thump Geelong and the Bulldogs.

It’s back again and here are some of the highlights of today: —

* "After seeing Luke Jackson's impact at Melbourne, perhaps clubs will be more willing to use high draft picks on a ruckman" — Kane Cornes

* "Everyone in footy is aware he's going to finish his career in Melbourne..." — Mitch Cleary on Ben King.

* "I think Peter Ladhams needs to find a club where he will be the number one man, rather than going to be a second ruckman" — Brendon Goddard

* "It's been amazing. It's been such a long time coming, trying to rebuild and get the club to the position it is now in. There's been moments where I'm just driving and it hits me and even a few tears start to come" — Todd Viney

* "Geelong are going to go again... they need to fill a legitimate void in defence and Daniel Talia could be that man for the next couple of years." — Brendon Goddard

* "The issue for Jarrod Brander is West Coast's list will change dramatically next season... if he waits a bit longer he's the next man in." — Nick Dal Santo

1. Jackson was very good but Tim English was his opponent. There’s a tick and a cross at the same time there. Positional value should always factor in drafting but shouldn’t be the defining factor one way or another.

2. Not the mail I’ve heard. Jono Brown was meant to come to Victoria. Riewoldt to the Suns. Gaff and Shuey to Victoria. Even Petracca to the Pies! You start winning he likely stays a long time. You lose and he’s out of there.

3. Every ruck wants to be the number 1, no news there.

4. Love Todd! Where’s the trade?

5. Talia at Geelong is too funny, the best thing is he’d be a young recruit for them!

6. Nah, he’s not their preferred next option forward or back. Harry Edwards and Oscar Allen are.

Anyway, felt like getting my frustrations out on 6 trade radio points. I could go on and on with all the drivel but it’s best to just get it done then ignore it

SEN far outstrips Ch 7 with good insights from G Healy (Who was in melbourne) A Hudson, K Cornes, Whateley and jordan Lewis

The called the game early though once we hit around 40 pts up. The call became less analytical at this point and more about how amazed they all were at the blowout...

I have a feeling Jayden Hunt will end up somewhere. I hope not as he a handy wing /half back option but he may want more game time elsewhere.

More game time elsewhere?? He played 20 games before his untimely injury opened the door for others. Vital player who should be in our best 22 IMV

Agreed,

Ive done the SEN and TripleM commentaries, and SEN is by far the best. Huddo does the game justice that Ch7 just couldnt do.

It’s a skill to be a self- proclaimed trade guru and be wrong with just about every point you make...over a three year period. Matt Rendell has that skill.

You know it’s going to be a boring trade period when three or four days in, the panel are discussing which set of twins is the best.

* "I think he's going to end up a ruckman. A really athletic, dynamic ruckman." — Cal Twomey on Mac Andrew

* "I think 3 Free Agency moves get done tomorrow.

Mabior Chol to Gold Coast.

Jake Kelly to Essendon.

George Hewett to Carlton." — Mitch Cleary

* "I was shocked Carlton didn't take him in the midseason draft, and I'd be shocked if someone doesn't take him in this year's draft." — Matt Rendell on Tyson Stengle

* "If I was Essendon I'd seriously look at a trade for Dylan Shiel." — Adam Cooney

* "I like that arrangement, but I reckon there should be another list for him to go on, not the rookie list."  — Stephen Silvagni on Tom Lynch to North Melbourne

Droll.

Reading through this thread, I’m starting to wonder whether Rendell got too many knocks to the head during his illustrious career.

He reckons that he’s heard that Daicos will go to Collingwood which will match a bid at third pick and he’s also heard that GWS will take Mac Andrew early (they currently have pick 2). It can be done of course, but do the Giants really think he’s worth using a top 5 pick on a skinny speculative ruckman? Who’s going to teach him the finer points of ruck work? Preussy?

Take the captaincy off Max and give it to Tracc? Good one.

His advice to Carlton is solid. Take Tyson Stengle. I reckon he might dislike Vossy and wants to see him get the flick very quickly.

Rendall is a raciest [censored]. Done well with the Collingwood list. There is no way Andrew will be picked up at pick 2.

Paying inflated $$$ for Martin, Saad and Zac Williams.

A big $$$$$$ contract for Cripps

I think $$$ offered to Cerra

and now Hewitt in 4yrs at $450,000 a year for a fringe best 22 player. Wow.

Sam Walsh should ask for a 5 year $5mil deal when he’s next due !!

I assume it was Adelaide that got the third round pick for Jake Lever, not Essendon.

Might be wrong, but I seem to recall Martin was very heavily front loaded to dissuade other clubs grabbing him before Carlton in the PSD. Think it was over $1mill in season one and then dropped right back after that. My point being he may not take a huge slice of the cap next year, comparatively speaking.

However, they may struggle to pay Walsh what he deserves when his time comes. And they must have a [censored] load of players on very little, the haves and the have nots.

How very Carlton. (At least, how I imagine that club is run.)

This morning’s Age newspaper said it all when it proclaimed that … “[R]eductions in list sizes and the salary cap are the major factors behind why this year’s player movement window is poised to be somnolence-inducing.”

In fact all trade periods are somnolence-inducing but this one looms even larger to the point where it’s comatose-inducing.  When it comes to Melbourne, it’s even less likely that the club will feature much at all in the next week or so, especially now that it’s been confirmed that Jake Melksham is staying.

* "When everyone is saying let's sit back and not do a whole lot, there's an opportunity for Hawthorn to make some real gains and get into the draft early.

"Are they bold enough to put a player up?" — Kane Cornes

* "I know that's a huge comparison." — Kane Cornes says prospective no.1 pick Jason Horne-Francis has "Dangerfield-esque" attributes.

* "A pick in the 30's or 40's is probably right for Jonathon Ceglar with Hawthorn telling him to explore. The Cats have 30, 32, 34 and could always use a ruckman." — Matthew Lloyd

* "Gold Coast have held preliminary talks with North Melbourne about Darcy Macpherson. What's flying under the radar here is that he's actually a very good footballer!" — Riley Beveridge

* "There's been recognition among the competition for a while the Bulldogs would have to part with Pick 17 to get Sam Darcy in. It's now up for sale and every club knows it."  — Cal Twomey

* "I think Hawthorn have some interest in Max Lynch." — Sam Edmund

" Done deal. First trade for the year is in.

Collingwood has traded its future second, third and fourth round picks to Gold Coast in exchange for picks 22, 46, 58, 79 and a future fourth-rounder.

Good business - Pies get Daicos points, Suns load up for 2022." — Callum Twomey

Done Deals

1. Jake Kelly (Adelaide) joined Essendon as an unrestricted free agent. Adelaide received pick 42 (AFL) as compensation.
2. Mabior Chol (Richmond) joined Gold Coast as an unrestricted free agent. Richmond received pick 38 (AFL) as compensation.
3. George Hewett (Sydney) joined Carlton as a restricted free agent. Sydney received pick 39 (AFL) as compensation.
4. Collingwood traded a future second-round pick, a future third-round pick and a future fourth-round pick to Gold Coast in exchange for picks 22, 46, 58, 79 and a future fourth-round pick.

Their fall will be epic.

They may enter next season with the oldest list in AFL history and almost zero under 21 talent.

3-5 years from now Geelong will be asking for priority picks.

In three years from now they'll be recruiting premiership player Michael Hibbard.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
