The only thing that we did not get was beating the Magpies this year which in the overall scheme of thing is not much but shoving it up Eddie McGuire and Jeremy Howe.

Although Howe would be envious of his contemporaries like Viney McDonald and Gawn who stayed the course to attain the ultimate prize in team football the premiership and the players will cherish this more in the future.

The envy of being a premiership player is not lost on some of the MFC greats like Flower Lyon Jones Jetta Yze White Wight Stynes and Neitz.

I have to admit, I couldn’t believe Binman’s 47 point win tip and was very skeptical. Not that we wouldn’t win, but by such a large margin. Hats off to you @binman. You had the analysis and the belief!

I was so certain of this game. How the Doggies with Martin/English were meant to compete defies logic. So it panned out. The Dogs as predicted got most of their centre clearances from the defensive side where ours well blitzkrieg. Another prediction that was spot on was who would kick Doggies goals when Naughton failed. The answer no one. My only surprise is how we got 19 points behind but the brilliance of Bont and Treloar. Not that it mattered made the turn around so much sweeter. I tipped a 57 point victory with a 39.5 plus margin at $5.70. The rhythm of 57 was a massive omen thanks Nom. A massive cash injection coupled with enormous relief at jagging the cup. Watched the game in Arlie Beach and I’m sure I spotted a delirious Demonlander with a white signed alternate strip. Noice!

@Premiers if there was a 'You're welcome' reaction I would have done it :)

Thank you.

I have a curiosity question.  May I ask why you prefer Lucifer's Hero to Premiers?

Remember when we decided that Fritsch was a forward?

Goodwin acknowledged this on On The Couch last night. Conceded that moving him to the wing/half-back was a mistake of his. Said it in a bit of jest, but I'm sure he agrees it was a failure of an idea when we did it.

@binmanis THE ORACLE and had actually nailed the exact winning margin until his Dyscalculia kicked in.

Choco was rather coy about what he whispered to Petracca; it sounded a bit like he was appealing to Petracca's ego.  It worked!!

As you say he got the first clearance.  Then he looked unstoppable.  The next time we saw a close up of him (for a fraction of a second somewhere in the 2 Fritsch, Brown and Brayshaw goals sequence) he wore a fierce expression.  He didn't look satisfied with that handful of goals.  Then he went on a rampage.

Just shows what having coaches on the bench can do.  It is unlikely Choco's message coming thru headphones would have had the same affect.

Apologies for quoting myself.  I just wanted to elaborate on the above.

The Choco interview I was referring to is in this.  what-chocco-said-to-trac?  Choco's reflection on his 'whispering' to Petracca is in this article and starts @ 3.20.  Love Choco's cheeky expression when asked the question.

This is the fierce expression I'm referring to in the above post.  We then kicked 3 goals in less than a minute.  it was not long after Choco's 'whispering'.

Worm?

It's a Brontosaurus. And what a glorious 2 hours it was, watching the message get from its first-bounce tail to its final-siren brain!

We certainly did crunch McCrae early.  And they say when you play against your old side you quickly find out who didn't like you. Hello Mitch Hannan.

l suspect there were 2 main reasons he played back: to plug a whole as we lacked good kicks back there, and also we wanted him to get am appreciation of the defensive aspects of the game before he inevitably moves forward

They can have it, they had to use their creative control card to win it anyway by sacking a long term favourite son coach. You only get 1.

Sorry if this has been raised / answered / posted already, but has RDB31's reaction been heard or, better, seen anywhere?

First post since GF morning. What a few days eh. Still over the moon. I’ve feasted on the replay, the post game on 7 and fox , every sports program I could and read every post in this thread over the past few days. My voice is almost back to 100%.
How good is it when sport becomes much more than just a game and gives you a moment like this. A moment that you will always be able to cast your mind back to and bring a smile to your face.

Im so happy for all ye die hards on demonland that are  more invested and long suffering than I am. Respect and joy to you all.  Go Dees.

Yep, agree. We have had good runs in finals before and punched above our weight in those seasons, but they are always tainted slightly by the knowledge we didn't finish the job ... not this time!!!

Just saw it now, thought he was a bit hard on himself even if he was joking a bit because he was a versatile player and when Lever went down in 2018 he did sort of help with filling the hole back there but he’s simply a better forward.

He should have listened to Demonland. Hopefully he has learned his lesson.

Is anyone else sick of the narrative that dogs were "1 goal away from breaking Melbourne"  ?  I am.  Some nerves, yes, but Melbourne has shown several times throughouit 2021 that they can respond from further down than 4 goals.  We are premiers and it shouldnt worry me I know but logic says 4 goals down halfway through the 3rd would by no means "break"  this side.

Awesome scenes, was shattered for Hunt when he missed out but have a look at him go…front and centre.

Pleasure!

Anyone else see this?

"Gary Rohan kicked a goal to put Geelong 44 points up in round 23, Melbourne then scored 409 to 171, a percentage of 239.2, against probably the next best three teams in the competition"

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
