Gee it's not far away now.

It's a tough job selecting from a fit list. I understand Adam t is doing well. I wonder if round one is too soon for him. It's hard removing a gf player for him and anyone else for that matter.

I would think Hunt is an auto in but again tough to break up a gf winning side.

Hunt aint no auto in, in fact he aint even the next one in, in my team but I'm not on the selection panel so maybe he's got a chance.

A lot of water to flow under the bridge before round 1 - IMVHO Hunt is probably in the best 26 (or so) but no lock in for 22.

So much discussion about Hunt, Smith, Weid, Tomlinson, Dunstan et al and whom they would/could replace.

It's unrealistic to think that the Club could have another dream run with injuries and, of course, covid in 2022, so these players will get their chances this season.

My Old Man's into the mid 50's. He must be sick of the theme song by now.

Didn’t think this was possible. 😁 That’s another great thing about the GF replay on December 5th: because it was only Dees fans in attendance we got to indulge in the song so many times while the boys were doing their lap after the medal presentation. Countless times, in fact. And all consecutively. It was pure joy.

Tomorrow is my birthday.

I am going to give myself a real treat.

I am going to watch the whole of the 2021 Grand Final

I was happy, then sad and all of the sudden .... Deliriously happy.

Happy Birthday

i hope we win!

I love watching it when Bont kicks that goal. His celebration isn’t a “I just kicked a good goal.” It’s so overdone it’s a “I just won the premiership for us.” Never get too excited until the siren goes. The funniest thing was Trelor kicked the next goal and his lack of celebration afterwards. Bont must have felt so stupid after the game, what his that premature celebration captured all over the screen.

One thing about watching the replay of game you are not as tense as watching it live and hoping when we were 19 points down that we could make a game of it and win the game.

I also watched us lose the 1954 GF game.

To all those people who were virgin premiers this year enjoy it because when I watched my first in 1955 when I was 9, I hoped we could repeat the dose in the near future.

In 1964 when we won the GF my father said that the team had probably reached its zenith and we need some fresh blood to win another I did not realise it would be 57 years till the next one and my father passed away in 2007 still hoping to see a premiership.

So enjoy this premiership but they are bloody hard to repeat unless your injury luck is good and the players that you do lose are not long term and are replaceable with your depth players.

Here's hoping the next one will be much sooner.

Hi all, just wondering where I would find the GF game day thread please??

Maybe I’ve done this correctly (?)

I’m not sure if this works. I hope so, it’s a great read!

I remember at half time i was sitting there pretty down trying to prepare myself to watch the most important half of football in my life. The dogs were the only team i thought would give us a game and to that point they had.

Bont goal sailed over my head and i thought that was the game. Thank god i was wrong!

Here here I was on the wing / half forward  line in a Melb section on the public side of the ground and thought exactly the same from half time to Bonts goal.

When you look at the game again  our defenders saved the game by only allowing 2 goals in half a quarter of footy .Digs had attacked and then if by manic we clicked into gear with 2 goals to establish our claim on the Flag.

It was never in doubt from 3/4 time on as we finished far too strong for the Doggies  in one of greatest Finals wins ever.
So well deserved by everyone in the Red and Blue team and supporters!

I’ve got a standing annual bet with a Bulldogs mate on which team finishes higher on the ladder. Been going on for about 7 years and has cost me dearly… but not this time!

It rotates between a keg party or long lunch, and today’s the day! If you live around Nortcote, there is a strong weather warning of smugness 😁

Haha you beat me to the edit! It’s the pronunciation of a keg party at the end of one… usually slurring the ‘eeee’s put a bit more!

I’m in the area Wiz, I’ll keep a close weather  eye out for any smugness. Let it rip, God know we’ve earned it!

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?
