“they are totally gobsmacked” That was the beginning of junk time. When we scored 2 goals in the first two minutes of the last quarter it was already an anti climax. 5 goals scored in 3 minutes of actual game time. The bulldogs were broken and no fight left.

Probably the strictly correct term, JCB, but I think this particular example deserves a much less pejorative label of it's own*. Suggestions anyone?

(*Unless, very politically incorrectly, you meant the anatomical colloquialism?...)

I've been watching through the last 45 minutes with different radio commentaries.  The SEN was a good as I expected it to be (Whateley and Huddo are the best going around imo).  The 3AW one was actually better than I expected. Looking forward to watching more (ABC call up next).

One thing I've come to realise is just how good the Sparrow goal was (2nd last one of the third term).  In the ecstasy of the moment and the focus on the centre breaks, I hadn't grasped how good that kick was.  Off a step from 50m out.  Wonderful kick and great work by TMac on the line.  He will become a great weapon going forward.

SEN was good but lacked a bit of atmosphere due to the commentary team sitting in a studio in Melbourne. Only Kane Cornes was at the ground.

64 pages - could be poetic to lock it?

We are the first MFC team to have more than 20 players who played in the premiership team as well as the first team in the history of the AFL/VFL to have 23 premiership players receive the premiership medal.

Yeah $60 for the sake of not scrolling past an ad. I think I’ll put up with it a bit longer

cassie, it's $30 for annual membership or $80 for lifetime membership. you go into your profile and click manage subscriptions.

I feel so dumb: I don’t get this.

There’s a separate charge for removing ads, isn’t there? Idk but I pay it anyways coz DL is worth every cent. And some. 💕

The interchange was implemented after 1964, while the medisub was only introduced this year (allowing for the 23rd player to claim a medal)...

Thanks for explaining this! But what about the first point, that being that we are the first MFC team to have more than 20 players who played in the Premiership team?

The team in 64had 20 players, so I thought they meant this is the first melb team to have more than 20 players in the side. We didn’t win one when 21 or 22 were the team numbers.

Interchange is a 70s or 80s invention. Was 19 th or 20th man. Once off - stayed off.

Radar would get his run as 19th man. Be taken off for 20th man

After another week of watching GF TV/radio calls, some random observations/thoughts:

- Was the so called “master coach” move of putting Treloar in the centre the beginning  of the end? Probably a big call, but it really bit them when our midfield took over - with Jackson in the centre bounces it was basically 5 versus 3

- Was it a tactic for the demons to keep crunching Macrea at every opportunity? Seemed to wear him down

- Dont reckon one broadcast mentioned Johannisen put both hands in the back when he took that screamer

1.  When we won the flag in 1964, there were only 20 players in a team (18 on the ground and two reserves).  It then went to 21 (18 + 3) and then to 22 (18 + 4) but we didn't win it during those years.

2.  With the advent of the sub, this year was the first year that any team consisted of 23 players (18 + 4 +1)

This annoys me no end as well. It wasn’t even hands in the back, it was hands on each shoulder and pushing off to elevate himself. Textbook free kick.

Agree. I thought so at the time.

I was numb and probably disbelieving the night we won the Premiership. It's only some time down the track that the enormity of it has sunk in. I wonder, was anybody else slow to take it in?

This is another of the unwritten rules of AFL. If he didn't mark it, it would be a free. If he marks it, it is mark of the year.

Slow? Snail’s pace for me. I don’t know if it’s ever gonna fully sink in.

Similar rules were used to award Gary Ablett Snr "mark of the Century"

A joke.

That is legal. You can use your hands to 'climb' the other player. If he dropped the mark it would have been a free. The AFL are trying to promote the speccy by allowing this.

Cheers, didn’t know that

sort of true, but you still can't put your hands on the shoulders with a forward pushing  action

this one was a bit grey as to the distinction between climbing/steadying versus outright pushing. there was also a bit of whether bowey milked the forward motion or not. i'd agree it might have been paid a free if he dropped it
