Need to at least consider tmac.

Have been his biggest fan but his last nine games he has kickedย  six goals and returned to the player he was last year.

Credit due to his other 11 games but this is the flag at stake and hes hit a long slump going into and including finals.

Do we have options?

Maybe not. Its a concern though. He didnt go near it today. I know he had two weeks off but do we keep going with him. Hard call.ย

yep agree LeaveittoDeever!

TMac terrible - can't mark and since running into an open goal against The Filth and missing from 25m TMac has gone back to 2020.

I'd bring in Mitch Brown or Jordon ... and leave BBB 1-out ... BBB does not take many pack marks but bring to ground for the speedsters to pounce

sorry TMac but it's off to CarlTank for you next year

ย

No change. T.Mac has to lift and Smith gives the defensive abilty we need Hunt is all about attack and Bowey does it better.

Depends on who we play. GWS then Hunt in and Smith out. If the cats no change.

I reckon Bowey will go out for Hunt if fit or Pig.ย

We will want more out of TMac but I donโ€™t see Melksham likely to replace him.ย

Good on the club for taking the whole squad - it would cost us/AFL a bit but if you CAN do it - you HAVE to do it. This will galvanise the group for years.

WA was generous enough to give us permission to bring over 75 people. Such kind souls.ย
Anyways the club obviously prioritized players over extra support staff which I think is wonderful.ย
Ben Gibson doing the water boy work is hilarious. Just shows how insane Covid has been that people are doing so many roles just to get the gamesย done.ย

You''d think Hunt for Smith the only likely change (if Hunt ready). Though perhaps depends on whether Toby Green plays or not.

Not sure about Tom Mac - Melksham has been a serial under-performer of late so not exactly banging the door down, and Weidemann would be a bit of a gamble I would have thought. Equally, got to think about who we might take into a grand final (yikes!), so would be the last chance to make changes.

Speaking of grand final, ย if we make it suspect it will be against Port, so perhaps even that comes into play when thinking about lineups.

ย

Few got sucked in by the commentators it seems..

3. Christian Salem

Started the game on Zac Bailey but took on other Lions players throughout the night. Won a stack of the ball (23 disposals), but also won a lot of it on the inside (11 contested possessions) to add another strong to his bow. Very solid game.ย 7

ย

44. Joel Smith

A baptism of fire in his second AFL final. Played most of the game on Charlie Cameron, who kicked three goals in the first term and finished with five for the game.ย 3

Hibbo in, shouldโ€™ve played tonight, Cameron made me very nervousย

Smith unluckyย

TMac stays - he will love to have a week off. He can find 2 goals and earn his keep by keeping someone busy.

Sparrow stays - he just reminds me of Guy Rigoni... Weird pull but great role player and built so well - great for a chop out for CP5/CO13.

Bowey and Smith may be the ones who are vulnerable.ย

I would play Hunt - he is a point of difference and is a spark plug. He will blaze away of course but he gets us going.

Hibberd will be in the frame.

Selection is boring.ย

How fantastic is that?

In: Hunt; Out: Smith

Regarding TMac & Bowey, if we win the Preliminary Finalย and poor form by either, would seriously consider Melksham & Hibbard.

I watched his game closely was doing lots of off the ball work to allow BBB and Frisch a free hit up. He has played deep and no doubt adds to the side more structurally.ย
ย

J Smith has to be the one under the spotlight given Cameronโ€™s dominance.ย
ย

I think it will depend on matchups tbh. Tonightโ€™s ball movement and transition will torch the Cats if they get up and J Smith will play on one of the 3 talls to free up Lever.ย

Honest think GWS will beat Geelong.

I reckon we play Weed med sub and if T Mac is having a mare then Tommy can pull a hammy.ย

I hope so, because I think we'd absolutely smash GWS if they got through given their run of equivalent knock-out finals. It'll all come undone. Mind you, they looked absolutely spent in that last 1/4 today and should have been overrun, so dad's army will probably still get up next week.

Just think that Milkshake is a bit more reliable in a big game, where we would get a tangible result (i.e. defensive forward role and an accurate kick at goal - unlike most of the rest of our team)

Iโ€™m not so sure as I was earlier today. Didnโ€™t realise both Greens were doubtful.ย

To those who are taking pot-shots atย Joel Smith tonight, perhaps they could honestlyย nominate one fit MFC player who would have the speed and agility to have been able to curbย Cameron tonight. Cameron had a good night - Joel didnโ€™t have a great one, but he did winย some one on one contests with Cameron that no one in our team would have. I have no idea if Smith will ever develop into a good footballer, but I do trust that if Goody has selected him in front of Hibbert, 3 weeks in a row,ย its for a very good reason.ย

Well we have one player in Hibberd whoย has done the job on Cameron before,ย Smith was atrocious tonight and nothing I have seen this or any other week gives me any confidence he will do any better. I donโ€™t care for who but he canโ€™t be in the team next game.ย
ย
Second Tmac needs to go, I donโ€™t care how good he was in the first half of this year he is cooked and a complete liability, I donโ€™t care if itโ€™s Melksham or Weid or anyone else you canย nameย get him out of there.

Between these 2 jokers we start 2 players down. Ifย we make those 2 changesโ€ฆ

You can't have 4-5 goals kicked on you and stay in the side. If it was Oscar McDonald everyone would be having a meltdown

Put him in from round 1 next year and give him the whole season to work in sync with the backs

This is the contest before Cameron's third goal. Neither Smith (right, next to Berry) or Salem (with ball) are on Cameron (off to the left somewhere). Hard to know who was supposed to be on him here.

Smith was right next to Cameron and turned the wrong way as Salem handballs it to him.

Cameron capitalises because Smith wasn't looking, it was the worst of his mistakes for the night

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
