Interesting to see that the Norwood to be the AFL 20th team debate is up and going again. How would be all feel if they were to come into the league using the monicker ‘Redlegs’, using ‘It’s a Grand Old Flag’ and wearing a jumper closely resembling ours? I cannot see us agreeing to it, but would the other clubs? What’s the deal with the voting of club presidents? Does it have to be unanimous? I think Collingwood would protest, as it’d open the debate around Port again:

interested to hear what others feel. Also, any legal eagles that have IP experience, how does the MFC protect its brand if they were to be successful

I can’t see it happening. How many members have Norwood got now?

I just don’t think it would be financially possible.
They would have to change colours and song, as Port Power did

A 20th team makes sense though and SA and WA would appear the most viable locations.

At least both those states aren't completely broke like we are here.

Norwood have always had excellent financial backing.

$$$ wouldn't be an issue but I think the AFL would want the financial backing of a state government much like the Tassie deal.

Juice Newton had an excellent career there after The Dees and was a premiership player!

It won't be in my time, but just purely on population and footy interest there will be at least 4 teams in S.A., NSW, W.A. and Qld.   2 in Tas and NT.   Probably with an East and West conference similar to USA.  A country of 50 Mil would support that.

The Redlegs will be there again when they play in their 55th SANFL Grand Final next weekend.

Norwood's through to the 2024 SANFL Grand Final with big Semi Final win

I bought a Redlegs hoodie (very vice) directly from the club when I visited mid year. Spoke to a club employee about the Melbourne/Norwood link and the mutual appreciation we share. He is actually a nephew of Graham Molloy who played for both clubs. He also gave us Norwood member merch for free, which was nice.

I love their ground and the suburb to be truthful. We will be watching it on our couch, casting from the AFL app to TV.

If in the early days Port & Norwood came across to the VFL instead of founding the Adelaide Crows, it would have worked. Now it is too late for Norwood, that ship has sailed.

A 20th team from Perth is more likely tbh, has a larger population base and likely to grow more in population in the future.

Kangaroos to Canberra with a few NT games, can still be called the Northern Kangaroos and the competition is set.

Absolute heartache for those of the red and blue persuasion Glenelg's Liam Mcbean's 7.0 goals the absolute difference nailing them from everywhere.

Best quality SANFL GF I've seen since the 90's, the pressure and tackling was ferocious.

There will no doubt be some saw bodies getting out of bed tommorow morning.

Not good news for Norwood. Lost the Grand Final to Glenelg by 5 points today after a see saw final quarter.

Sorry! They might be red and blue, but they're still Norwood, and that's where the connection ends, for me. If it ever started. It probably makes more sense if, like me, you happen to have lived in SA for a fair part of your life. (If it makes you feel better, I spent several years at Sale State. School, not prison! Back in the days when you were either RDB or Serge in the playground. ) I've been supporting the Bays (ie Glenelg) since the late 50s, and for much of that time they've been roughly equivalent to the Dees through the 70s, 80s and 90s. The win today was a fantastic come from behind win in the last quarter, and makes it back to back premierships. So I'm not feeling much for Norwood, although they put up a good fight. If you want to make the red and blue argument, I'll give you the Sturt song, which happens to be A Grand Old Flag. So should I support Sturt on that basis? I've got a big tip for you!

Another close final loss for the Redlegs! Norwood were going for their 32nd Premiership.  What an amazing club. Speaking to officials there, I know they feel an affinity with the MFC. That’s good enough for me. ❤️💙

As a youth I have always followed Norwood and west Perth in WA because of their colours. West Perth have changed there name a few times. Sadly never the demons. Perth are the demons but red and black.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
