My observations:

  • Our first crushing win.

Did you miss Gold Coast last week? 98 points?

My father told me when I was a boy that good sides win when they look average. A good side has the ability to get the job done when they are not at the top of their game. If we keep winning I don't care how we look. When you win the record book does not say played poorly it just says won by X amount.

Are you starting to believe, od?

I noticed it after it was too late to edit my post.

Have for sometime jr. first half of the season I was waiting for the MFC implosion.

A good team win, Smith held up, Hibbo did his bit and Milkshake was good early, BBB was constantly double tagged and spent time up the ground playing the TMac role. The midfield led by Max and LJ did what they had to do, the backline led by Jake Lever, Petty, Rivers, Bowey and Smith were great again. We coasted when we could and accelerates when we needed to and Bayley Fritsch played the game of his life leading us to a great win.

Well done DEES, top effort Frittata.!!!!!!!

I also liked that we put a different roster through the middle with Gus in the guts, winning clearances at the end.  Lots of resting minutes into the main crew, and a chance for others to demonstrate that they should run through on occasion.

I can see rivers going through there in years to come.

in the finals we are going to need to win the contest and the middle.

Our backline did look fairly shaky in parts, Steven May is clearly an incredibly important cog in the backline system.

I thought Petty was outstanding, his trajectory of improvement this year has been quite phenomenal, deserves any and all credit he gets.

and the Crustless quiche strikes again!!

Agreed, hes looking very reliable, marking has improved out of sight, great judgement and good kicking hitting targets. This has allowed us to release May moreso to use his kicking. another v good game.

I thought Smith played himself into the game well. Went off with cramp for quite a bit of the 3rd qtr so I think that upset the balance a bit of the backline.

May is critical as we know.

I sit in the AFL members on the Southern Stand wing and it feels like the entire game is played on the members side of the ground!

Well I sit in the members and feel the opposite. Haha

Rivers plays well, down back. Rivers could play absolute opposition havoc if allocated a few minutes each game in the midfield.

Apologies if it’s already been mentioned but apparently Fritta now holds the record for the fastest time to kick 3 goals. His 3 goals in the final 88 seconds of the game is now the record.

When I look back at the 2021 season in 2030 it will state we beat adelaide in rd22 by 41pts.
Good win.

How could anyone have checked this stat?!

Oliver getting much needed goal kicking coaching from Stafford at training yesterday.

Will he 'get it'?

Would love to see him kick a few this week.  If he does, it could just win him the coaches award (and maybe the Brownlow).

its definitely psychological for Clayton. he cant kick them dead in front. If he pretends hes passing to a seat in the 10th row he would snag more goals.

"So, um, here's how you do it. You, um .... where are the laces on this thing? Do they still have laces? It's been a while since I've  -- oh, here they are. Crikey, the balls are a lot smaller than I remember. Anyway, there's a part on it that you have to hit with your boot ... where is it now ... it was on those Daicos balls you used to be able to buy ... oh, look, I dunno, mate. Just roost the bloody thing."

He could try running in a straight line, ensuring his kicking leg stays in a straight line AND leaning forward as well. That's 86.4% of his problem kicking for goal.

Same goes for Max, jnrmac.  I get so frustrated with his veer to the right, hook to the left habit.

At the draft camp thingy before the national draft, Oliver kicked 30 from 30 in set shots. One of the only draftees to register 100 percent accuracy. Hard to know what's gone wrong since then...!

It seems so. Hes a deadly kick around the ground and going inside 50. But in front of goal...you can see the anxiety on his face as soon as he takes the grab and looks around at the goals...

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
