I think we have to get better spread from the ball, and more carry into the team. Sadly, we just don’t have that many of those types on the list. Oliver, Viney, and Harmes seems to close each other up, and nobody holds width. I feel like we’ve lost our spread with Viney and Harmes in the team.

I think Melksham and Sparrow get a shot at the expense of Jordan and Harmes. Melksham can kick, and Sparrow deserves a crack. JJ looks tired. Been great, but we need some fresh legs.

After reading all the ideas here I believe some cha age is needed. Little or no change in structure and style because we have had an unbelievably good run with no injuries. It is obvious from the posts that most suggested ins haven't had much if any time in the seniors so we don't know what they can bring. A sudden spate of injuries will leave us even more vulnerable, time to change it up a bit.

Down back we are very stable but Hibberd and Rivers need a chop out and an alternative tried. Maybe Bowey for a back pocket

Midfield is heavily reliant on Trac and Oliver for class, Viney is getting there provides grunt but isn't a penetrating kick. Gus, Langers, Brayshaw are ordinary kicks whoever gives them a chop out has to be better at this to warrant change

Forward The reason for Spargo, ANB & Picket is to apply pressure and lock the ball in. Worked early on but now not so much. Thus strategy limits our class up forward. Fritta is classy but doesn't chase and tackle or do enough. Jacko isn't contributing up forward and his ground play in the midfield has fallen write off. Melk brings in the polish but not the defence. Don't think we can run with Spargo & ANB.

Goody has stated post match he is happy and wont change much. I would rest Hibberd and Jackson and Spargo for Bowey Weid and Melksham or Jones. The latter while past his best brings effort and grunt.

Yes, does seem to be an issue. It seems like we've fallen back into our previous years bad habits of not holding much width around the stoppages.

Don't mind the weid in for Jacko as he is way off at the moment. Still a kid and will be a great player for us but is not doing enough and even can't mark over smaller opponents. Would keep Jordon and give Spargo a spell. Similar to Jacko and not giving us enough as a small.

I like your thoughts here and I would like to add Spargo as a distributor at HB to help Salem. He provides that link to FF 50.

More likely to have Spargo do the role the Bowey will eventually grow into as he is hardened.

Bowey inclusion

I think it’s becoming lazy and cliche  to dog pile posters for suggesting that Daw be given a game. 

If posters are suggesting he is the answer going forward as a regular part of the starting 22, I fully agree that’s not overly logical.

If people are suggesting we give him a game or two to give him a requisite taste of seniors so he can at least carry out his role of ‘break glass in case of emergency’ should said emergency come, I’m very much amenable to that. Also if people suggest he is a decent option to play Dogga’s resting ruck role while the latter gets his wind back and recovers from soreness, I see no issue with that either.

Remember also that we most likely play next week against the Suns; a team with no recognized ruckman. If there is any time to give Dogga a rest and throw the bulk of the ruck to Max, this is the week.

Also to play Devil’s advocate exclusively, it might be interesting to see what we can do with a bullocking and pack busting forward back in the mix (which Majak clearly has the frame for). The Bear played that role magnificently for 3 to 4 years, and allowed Jesse a much easier avenue to goal.

Not the worst idea.

Keeping bbb also mandatory. He clunked a couple and kicked a long angled goal. The only one currently with that ability. More games he will improve. 

IMHO one of our big problems is that Salem is not providing anything like the drive that he did a month or so ago. We all know he is carrying an injury - shouldn’t he be given a week or so off to try and get it right? Everyone agrees that our big problem is the movement into attack, and that was where Salem was making all the difference when he was fit and firing.

I would rest him, maybe try Bowey  as a replacement. I agree with Weid for LJ, who has dropped right away.

I think that it is unlikely that they will debut Bowey this year. Has not played a lot of footy and it's his first year playing among men.

It it does happen that would be great. I do like what he is showing at VFL level.

I can see Spargo providing that other outlet at HBF in the Daniel mould. Salem has been finding it difficult since his injury. Spargo is smart and we need composure and the ability to hit a target out of our defence. Preferably Lingers on the wing. He already has the defensive pressure.

I'm not sure who needs a rest back there but the consensus on here is that it's Hibberd.

I would bring Melksham back in at HF to replace Spargo and play Viney(def pressure) and Petracca forward for more minutes.

Brayshaw back to wing, Jordan in the middle (defensive pressure).

Jackson could need a break and I would bring Weideman in to do his role and have TMAC stay at HF and BBB lead to one pocket and Fritta to the other.

No change.  They'll probably fiddle at the edges, but nothing to come in that's going to improve the team to any great extent.  I thought our players were a lot better than theirs during general play.  Just have to kick straight and stop giving away stupid free kicks near goal.  The umpires were terrible and we should have got more near our goals, but the ones we gave away were stupid.

I don't understand why jackson hasn't been taught to use his body to jump into a pack to mark like a naughton for instance.  He's got a huge leap but tries to jump up beside and reach over which means his palms are facing downwards and mostly drops everything.

Now that I'm over my frustration at not losing to the Bulldogs but our draw to the Hawks that's going to bite us on the [censored]. They will keep the same team. Love to see Bowey get a game ahead of Hibberd who was shocking on the weekend I can't see it happening. This will be the side we go with for the rest of the year barring injury. We are out of form I'd like to think we are as close to what Goody thinks but I'm not so certain.

Don’t understand all this talk of resting players. Haven’t we be doing some high intensity loading? Aren’t we supposed to be super fit due to our conditioning coach? Are Geelong, Dogs, Brisbane, Port resting players now? If players look tired it probably means they are!! Our work rate has dropped off over the past few weeks. The competition has stepped up a gear and we have been unable to go with them. 
 

There will be minimal changes this week. Bar Tomlinson, we have our best 22 on the park at the moment. If that is not good enough at this time of the year, then it’s all over.

Few posters saying no change or minimum changes. Poor performing players need to be accountable and kept hungry otherwise those on the periphery lose faith. 

If I was vanderBerg I'd be pretty peeved at being dropped for Harmes. Had seven score involvements and did some good things last week. Harmes has had four stinkers and is a complete liability at the moment.

This team also needs a freshen up. Even it is only for a couple of weeks.

Bowey/Lockhart for Hibberd.

Chandler for Spargo.

Melksham for Jackson.

Vanders for Brayshaw

Sparrow for Harmes.

But Goodwin said he didn't believe it was a major issue as his side handed over first position on the ladder to the Bulldogs.

I think we were better earlier in the season with an extra medium sized forward.  Melksham or M Brown or Jones can fight it out for that role.
 

I actually feel like Max could run out a few games on his own, he has in the past.  Leave BBB or TMac to ruck forward and Max play one kick behind the play as intercepter, he is better suited to that role. I’m not saying for a whole season, but it couldn’t hurt to try it for a game or two.  For mine the Weid experiment is done for this year, and Daw no thanks.

I wonder if less tells in the forward line, it might force our mids to at least try hitting up a target up forward instead of the long bombs?
