There is just one change.  Ben Brown in for Tom Sparrow.

Must say that I am really surprised that rather than give Sparrow a rest OR a confidence boosting run at Casey, the "brains trust" has elected to take him to Adelaide along with Jake Melksham as the 2 extras.

It sounds like someone's mail here is off?

FWIW, if Joel Smith is on the plane...I'm not impressed.

God help us. I hope that's not because Lever or Salem are in doubt.

I agree with almost all of your opinions but not this. Is Petty markedly better? Joel is great with lock down. It frees up Lever.

I like Jackson but how do you best utilise he and Gawn when our forward line is struggling to kick 8-9 goals a game.

They must seriously rate Butters if he's coming into play off a 5 day break from the SANFL following a 10 week lay off. Hope he doesn't do to much damage.

Hopefully is Boak is banged up off a 5 day break.

Radical moves, these are needed, we have the weapons. Give Yze the call - please!

Yes, Petty is markedly better (and has done nothing wrong since coming into the side to warrant being dropped).

No, Smith is not "great with lock down". He is Frost-level unpredictable which is the last thing we want or need in our backline.

Unless he's significantly changed how he plays, Smith is the wrong answer to a question that isn't even being asked.

1000% Petty is better. He is better one on one and he is a better reader of the ball. He is also a better size to take on a big forward.

Besides, Joel won't replace Petty. If anything he would come in to cover Lever or Salem. And if that happens we are at least 99.5% worse off!

Is it possible to lose this game but feel we're back on the right track?

What if we lose 90 - 80 in a see-sawing game with the home town crowd getting them over the line? What if our clearance work and scoring improve significantly in a high scoring loss?

It would be nice to read a post match thread after a loss, that isn't world ending like the others this year.

Would be taking 26 to an interstate game for sure, just in case of any last minute mishaps. One for each part of the ground.

Probably right. Especially coming off a 5 day break, and especially considering all these non-playing emergencies will still be able to play for Casey.

I would suggest that Sparrow and Vanders go out. Brown in. Melksham sub.

I'm not sure there has ever been such a thing on Demonland.

But, to answer your question, yes, it is possible that we could be back on track but still lose this game.

And on the matter of "the body" Goodwin added that BBB has built his body to the point that he has confidence in it, implying that was a hindrance early in the season.

I reckon this is the key point.

I've tried searching the forum to no avail...did someone say May looked injured at training?

If Joel Smith is named in the team then we've officially lost the plot.

I really don't like the use of Joel Smith as a defender ,seem to get injured a lot as a defender (perhaps it is only an assumption).

Perhaps Petty will play forward and J.S will play defence.  Hopefully Vanders comes in for Sparrow or Viney or Brayshaw.

Must make 3-5 changes as a wake up call to the rest.

If Ben Brown fails to do anything in the next 4 week, he'll probably be our next full forward to experiment with.

We've never lost a game when BB has been in our team. I'm taking that as a positive omen

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
