Why do I get the feeling that the first 4 named on the bench are the ones playing and Sparrow will once again be sub. What more does he need to do and what is Melksham doing that keeps him in

Stop looking for things that fit your view....

Melksham, though sproadic - fills a need...

No disrespect to M.Brown, but I can’t understand why B.Brown can’t get into this team. Has to be match fitness or his knee.

If we traded for B.Brown knowing full well he couldn’t fit into our forward line or into how we play then we were really stupid. You won’t find another team this year with a 60 goal a year forward who can’t get a game.

Weideman does not deserve another game. I’d much rather have M.Brown in than Sam. He’s at least capable of taking a contested mark.

Let’s hope that BBB doesn’t turn out to be the year’s biggest disappointment. There’s still time to come good.

Comments like these….

Hasn't played for three weeks and has still achieved more than Weideman.

A long way to go before this season is done.

I really try to see what Melksham brings every week but I can never see it, he continues to get games so you can only take it at face value that he’s doing his job but I just don’t know what that job is!

Nor do I @Pates - I'm no guru - I see the game on the TV and know that I miss a hell of a lot that is away from the ball.

We can bang out about certain players - but the reality is - the FD see it for what it is, and know he is doing a particular role...

My take is, he is the cream.... delivery - not tackles/pressure (although that feels important to everyone) - and my reality is, he IS cream on the top.. a sexy footballer, that isn;t lazy, that doesnt take backwards steps, but has a different skill set to what the majority of fans think is non-negotiables for All players...

And the optics for Melksham look different from the rest...

And in my third part of the post...

I personally dont love or hate him... but it's about his role... I have had 5 out of 36 years to get my head around 'move away from possessions as a stat that matters' in how you value someone....

It's tough to do, but its not how the game is played these days.

Bbb was on the rails run until injured.  He has to work hard and kick the door down.  No free passes in that forward line.  If he doesn’t understand that, then he will never get selected.  It’s the system he has to work to deliver.

to me, he didn’t look like he could get separation from defenders.  Needs to build agility and fast twitch sprint capability - he should chat to TMAc, who cut his lunch.

So Weeds has been a "Stellar performer" has he? Nup give me a 60 plus goal kicker over a maybe iffy can he Weeds at present! Weeds ok at Casey but hardly compelling! In fact I rate Mitch Brown a better player than Weeds!

Because at the moment Ben Brown is nowhere near a 60 goal a year forward. And hasn’t been for 2 years. Mitch Brown is a like for like for TMac if he has to go home. You have to admire the team selections this year, based purely around form and the aptitude for the role. It is a major reason the team sits on top. That and a healthy playing list. Long May it continue

You were expecting TMac to have an AA year then I assume?

The Weed is safe. Good call. Back him in, he will come good and the doubters will quiet down

M Brown named in case T Mac goes home but hopefully should be fine.

Langers for Milkshake.
So good to have the wingman back

He looked alright against North and the Swans.

He kicked 64 goals in 2019, this season isn’t over yet.

I am not saying he can’t get back to that level. But at the moment, the selection of M Brown is the right one

I'm no fan of the undisciplined Melksham but he seems to have curtailed that this year. As to his role last week, I read somewhere he had a stopper/tagging role on someone and apparently did a great job. That's often difficult to see on the TV. Anecdotally, during the Spargo interview in the rooms Melksham is on the floor stretching and Harmes walks over with a big smile and gives him a pat on the back and says something to him before walking off. Could be a "Taggers Club" moment.

Since he went out, bbb has barked like a dog.  Maybe if he was putting even a marginal case, it would rate a conversation.

Fair suck of the sav.

Yes he only had 4 disposals.

But that is the only game he has played since he went out!

But that’s the thing Picket, BBB isn’t a 60+ goal kicker right now. He may have done those things in the past but he doesn’t have that in him right now. I’m not necessarily defending Weids for that matter as I think he has to do more than just be a competing forward, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be expecting someone in his position to be averaging about a goal a game.

I would also actually consider Mitch Brown over Weids but the question is what does that achieve? Will we definitely get more output from Mitch over Sam, and is that the best thing not only short term but long term?

It has to be crunch time for Sam, he’s had his weeks to get his eye in and feel like he’s a part of the team. Time to start repaying the faith.

But he didn't though.. Goodwin has already confirmed this via an interview that he wasn't given any specific role and he was simply just had a quiet game.

Hopefully he's dropped for Langdon.

As was the case last week, M Brown is in front of B Brown at the moment, which is really quite interesting.

Don't quite read it that way myself. Good chance that M Brown doesn't get a run, suspect that they'd rather Ben B has a confirmed start and plays out a match, even at a lower level (or intra-club or whatever).

Never mind hopefully, if that was the case then he should be dropped for Langdon.

Was the Goody comment in his post match presser?

Possibly, but how much game time is he getting when the VFL isn't playing and how valuable is it?

Last week was maybe justifiable on this ground but we know there's a real chance TMac won't play this week which means a much higher chance of getting a game. Surely if we think B Brown is better, we'd be taking him up to Sydney?

I have no idea what you mean. You agree with my comment that I hope BBB is the disappointment of the year? Or you’re unhappy that I made the comment?

Seeking clarity please.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
