Trent seems like a very well grounded and articulate young fella, as well as being a gifted, hard working, fast learning and courageous footballer.  He was drafted at the perfect time be an important part of an exciting journey with the MFC.

I sometimes think how lucky are these kids to have been picked up by the Dees just as we become a true premiership contender.

Then I smack myself up the side of the head and consider that this new bunch may very well have tipped the balance from mid-table battlers, to a top of the ladder team.

So many first to third year players, stepping in and playing like veterans. Legacy building work from Jason Taylor, Tim Lamb and team.

Love that Choco has the younger players researching the MFC's past players. What an acquisition. Well spoken, Trent.

You keep smacking yourself Faulty and you'll get concussion...

I loved this too Adam. Hate to look too far forward, given where we’ve come from; but these are the combined actions of an elite footy club. Nice that individual excellence is noticed and rewarded, but they one and all sound grounded by the team and structure. I’m loving where this is headed.

Mandatory 12 days away from DL? ?

Seems to always pop up in the background on the telly after we kick a goal with a big smile on his face. He’s enjoying his footy like all of them.

This can't be underestimated. One of my questions I submitted for the zoom meeting they did last year was what sort of induction into the club do new recruits undertake? I think it's important they get schooled on the history of the club to make them appreciate where they are, develop their love for the club and make it more of a footy club rather than just a team.

Great to hear Williams is doing this with the new recruits.

  • Demonland changed the title to Trent Rivers in the Media

This is a great article. I especially like that Trent lives with Luke Jackson in the home of Mr and Mrs Brayshaw, Gus and his brothers, ‘not Gus’ and ‘also not Gus.’ What a household that’d be. ?

Good article in The Age today about our boy Trent.

Backman to the future: Young Demon Rivers getting a kick out of footy

(Note to mods: might want to change the thread title to "Trent Rivers in the media")

He's the only footballer I've ever heard use 'coalesces' in an interview.

Fantastic young player and already a very important part of the 22. My only knock on River's is that my wife finds him quite attractive

How does she feel about Jone's, Harme's, Bray'shaw and 'Spargo?

I wasn't talking about the player, the Murray and Darling are her favourites

Consider him as a 'warm-up act'.

Haha!  Not trying to pick on you Smokey.

It's bad enough that so many nuffies think that plurals (or any word ending in an "s") require an apostrophe, but inserting one into a player's name is beyond the pale.

Same goes for the cringeworthy but ubiquitous "Go Dee's".  No apostrophe required!

That hereby ends today's grammar lesson from Demonland's  resident pedant.  :D

No one is safe from your sharp wit, myself included ?

Trent has gone from ‘riotously celebrating’ West Coasts prelim win in 2018 to playing an integral part in the side they beat. You have to love the stuff life deals up.

Even if you were referring to the rivers, the apostrophe shouldn’t be there. Soz, if @demonstoneis a pedant, then consider me a ball-breaker.
You can take the girl outta proofreading but you can’t take, etc. ?

Further on that Trent Rivers article, and this is a serious question, what does Baum mean by “D” when he says...

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
