No benefits now that the Vics can't attend. I'm sure there are plenty of room available now if you want to fly to the NT this weekend.

It was earlier reported that Carlton were offered SCG or Optus Stadium next week to play West Coast and chose SCG. They didn't have the huge financial loss hanging over their heads and they are already in Sydney so why travel into the belly of the beast and play the Eagles on their flat track. They've understandably chosen the SCG.

We have a big decision to make. I would at least try to get our next 2 games vs the Lions at the G. We hardly ever seem to play them there.

 

The bigger picture here is the grand final. Strategically that is the goal because from that flows sponsorships, memberships and a kick butt draw next year including blockbuster TV. Forgoing the Gabba to get an advantage (perceived or not) from the SCG is good long term sense.

I put it that way because if we are allowed to play in the Alice it would likely be a fly in fly out situation like we did in Cairns. However if we hub for a week or two in Sydney and play at the SCG or Giants then our preparation is more settled.

 

I would and I wouldn’t. Yes because we make the $700k and get to see a game played in an amazing place, no because NT and our club misses out on the community development aspect of the NT gov paying for teams to come to the NT.

Sorry if this has been floated before, but any chance a later home game could be in ASP? We have Ess, GWS, Haw, WB, Adel remaining. Hawthorn perhaps? If they keep going the way they are, the MCG gate may be no bonanza...

With the 7 day "circuit-breaker" lockdown scheduled to finish midnight on Thursday, and an announcement likely on the Thursday morning on whether restrictions would ease, it is plausible that the NT Government could allow Melbourne to travel on either Thursday or Friday morning if we don't have cases that cannot be traced to an existing case.

I would assume half to 2/3s of the guest would have been from Vic who now can’t attend. A lot less guests and a lot less $$ sadly.

I mentioned before but one of the key benefits we’re all missing is the AFL clubs being in the communities for a week (well it used to be).

I imagine we need the cash. Our gate this year has been pathetic. Despite being on top of the ladder, outside the Tigers game, don’t think we have cracked an MCG crowd over 40k. Pretty disappointing given the way the team is playing.

another frustration is for the Santa Teresa community who were going to get a visit from some at the Demons to open the newly grassed oval that that this week had the goal posts from the MCG installed. Saw them Friday, they look brilliant.

If in the next 2 days, there was no cases (unlikely I know), the government here would more likely than not, let the game go ahead

Tired of having our season compromised by finances.

We've been doing it for 20 odd years starting with the slae of our home game to Brisbane.

Happy to throw in $10-20 to soften the blow.

Sorry do I assume wrong, we’re are the guests coming from for the NT gov to pay $800k for the game?

I was the first in the thread to say that one of the key issues I see is the club not being able to interact with the NT community during the week even if we do get to play in NT but sure..

Missed the point. Yes the tourism benefits are there usually and attracts lots of us Victorians fans making a winter escape. I’ve been to the Alice game and twice to Darwin.  Spent 2-3 days each side and spent plenty of $$$ each time towards the NT economy.  
 

But if Victorians cannot travel to NT, this will greatly reduce the NT benefits from the game and they (NT GOVT) may decide risks are too great (and lack of tourism add on means better to delay).

Recommended- I think Dees could swap this NT game and ask AFL to try to reschedule our round 16 (July 3rd) match v Giants to be played at Alice Springs.

Yes you are way off the mark, the government pay for the game for the advertising it brings and to a less extent, to give some entertainment to the locals, many of whom travel a few hundred kms just to attend the game, see the Mt Liebig mob last year.

Agree, I assume the delay is because the hope is we can get into the NT.

Another day or two (max) might be the difference, if we get a decent run on numbers in Victoria. If not, then NSW.

Uhm why are you being so aggressive? I made a statement based on the concept of a Dees game would be attended by Dees fans who hhhgmmmm are from Melb thus accom would be booked out due to interstate tourism, you’ve yet to make a single point that dissuades me from this point. Happy to hear otherwise.

Outside of that you’re coming across as way over the top for zero reason, a you know it all just because kind a guy. Zero apologise from this side needed muscles.

Mate, he's given you two points in his previous post: the NT government pays for the game for marketing (i.e. it doesn't matter who shows up in the crowd, what matters is the broadcast showing off Alice Springs) and for entertainment for their own population, who wouldn't get to see AFL games in their own Territory unless the government paid for a game.

And if @Rod Grinter Riot Squad is coming across as.a "know it all", that might just be because he's from Alice Springs, and actually knows what is happening in the NT.
