Great win, I haven’t been super impressed with how we have played this year but tonight was very good against a very good team.

I have been a critic of both Lever and Goodwin over the years but feel I need to give them both some  praise. The way Goodwin has our team defence working is absolutely fantastic and full credit to him. Lever is having a bloody good season and proving me wrong, his positioning and decision making seem so much better this year.

Rivers is already a good player but I can’t wait to see what he will be like in a couple of years. I know Weideman frustrates many on here but I would persist with him for a good chunk of the season, I feel he is so close to making it at this level.

Oliver is such a good player, I can’t believe how consistent he is.

Umpiring was appalling.

disagree. The umpiring was excellent tonight. Razor ray is the best umpire in the AFL.

I actually have to agree, not with the Razor Ray bit but the umpiring overall.

Unlike last week, I didn't think they were continually making mistakes.

There was a deliberate I didn't like, but generally I didn't notice them that much and that is always a good thing.

Tonight's win is a massive downer!

I meant it in the sense we would be sitting 2 games clear. I'm rapt with tonights win. We were great. Don't get me wrong. sitting top spot 1 game clear is not what i expected at the start of the year. Now we just need to keep winning and stay there.

On another note I see Daisey Pearce and Jeff Farmer are going down the slide queens birthday. How Good will it be to see the Wiz back at the G queens birthday. The event better go ahead.

We're wearing it next week, we were always going to for a game in the NT I think.

We'll presumably wear it again later this year in a home game against GWS or something, but this was Sir Doug Nicholls round, this was the round where the league shone its light on our indigenous players, this was the round it meant the most.

Sir Doug Nicholls round is actually two rounds both round 11 and 12.

Most clinical win of year so far. Harmes and Rivers most effective players on ground. The dogs had no idea who to go to.

Can’t agree, as once again there was horrible inconsistency around the tackle rules. Better than last week most certainly, and evenly distributed to both teams, but still woefully unpredictable. I have no idea which way they’ll decide on tackles more than 70 percent of the time. Needs fixing.

Can't recall a more well rounded and mature performance from any Melbourne team. Defensively brilliant. Enjoyed this one a lot.

Ordinary footballer at best. Never going to hurt you. A great example of why stats are sometimes meaningless

By far our best performance for the year. Our defence was solid all night and out midfielders played extremely well. Kept the bont and libba below their normal out put and it showed.

Massive. He’s arguably our most important player.

Yeah it’s hard to pick THE most in this current squad, but he’s easily in the mix.

Yze......."no one will be tagging anyone"

...(except half the team)

This had me really worried. I think Chocco and Yze have made a world of difference.

I truly believe we can win it this year!

Cons:

Umps - if you can watch the last two minutes of the first quarter do it! A disgraceful effort of trying to even up a contest.

Weids - still not convinced but hope the goals gave him some confidence

Langdon - we'll miss him. Hope Sparrow comes in, he so deserves a run at it (not Baker)

Crowds - sorry everyone down south has missed out on being there to watch this tonight live.

Pros

Pressure - just continual pressure across the groud was fantastic

Rivers - growing in stature and confidence every week.

May - He's not playing that well and we're not falling apart down back.

TMAC - Just so straight and dependable

We're still beating teams in bursts. We still have another gear to go.

Rock on Dees

Absolutely thrilled with that win and super proud of them given the interrupted week.

Here I was worried we’d lose 3 in a row after last week! This team is different.

The structure, dare I say the gameplan, is sensational.  Forced them wide and outnumbered them in defence.

Hit them hard on the counter. It's like we have a German football manager coaching us!

Was great to get back on track after last week. Shutting out Libba at the source exposed many of their midfielders as receivers.

We dominated them in every way and with some straight kicking could have been up by seven goals at half time.

Special shout out to Brayshaw, HArmes, Jordon, Spargo, Fritta, etc for their defensive efforts.

TMac and Fritta for three goals each.

A magnificent team effort.

Great win, clinical, super consistent, better all over the ground. As much as I hate the channel 7 commentary team it was hilarious listening to BT trying to justify his love for the dogs tonight, my favourite was when he said ‘this will make it tough for the dogs’ when we went 41 points up with 14 minutes left, ahhhh yeah we’re double their score mate!

Flat track bulldogs, sorry I mean bullies anyone?

We’re 5-0 against the top 9, Dogs are 3-2. Pretenders.

Go Dees!

The one downer is the loss of Langdon, massive out, any chance Viney gets up ??????

Wasn’t overly confident of the win, but did tip us by 12. Maturing every week, “The Learnings” ?. I reckon that Petty kid is going too get a lot better, seems to have a fair bit of competitive hardness, good hands and skills. Feck this is a great way too start the weekend, thanks THE MIGHTY DEE’S. I must say I even handled last weeks loss very calmly, what the………..?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
