Last Friday’s medical report from club doc Laura said Jack Viney was 2 weeks away. So I can only assume that means he’s not playing this week.

Bring Sparrow in for Brayshaw, Salem in for Jetta.  Harmes stands The Bont and have Bedford as Sub.

Are you serious? Gus played one of his better matches on Saturday. His defensive positioning was elite. He also got some inside ball as well. I was very happy with his game. 22 touches at 73%, 10 CPs, 3 tackles and stopped multiple Adelaide switches and entries via his positioning.

Is he as damaging offensively as 2018, no, but he's being played as the defensive winger. Langdon is the offensive winger.

People need to watch the game more closely.

Only Changes for me.

Viney & Salem in.

Jetta & Melksham out.

Rotate viney through as a def fwd and mid with Jordan.

Let's change the fact that MFC supporters don't go to Marvel.

We all know that the Doggies faithful will be there expecting to thrash us and given the umpiring result of having a majority Adelaide supporter crowd we need to have more than the usual MFC base supporters at Marvel. MCC/MFC members notoriously will not go to Marvel. This is a game where we need supporter noise not just to balance out umpiring decisions but the players thrive on it as well. We all need to be there.

I can't understand how some people constantly want Brayshaw dropped. It beggers belief and shows how little some fans understand the game.

I am currently sourcing a Dogs Guest pass through a mate to get there. Which will make it my 6th game I've been to this year.

Only missed the Sydney game because funnily enough I was in Sydney!

I reckon some mark him harshly. He isn't at the level that he can get to obviously, but he's playing the lockdown role to allow others to intercept. When his KPD mates in May and Lever struggled, particularly May, it brings more pressure on the back 6.

I don't think it's a case of Salem out, Melbourne defensively hopeless. I think we just had a poor night, where we gave Adelaide sniff, they were up for it, they'd clearly set themselves for the game (resting Walker the week before) and one of three umpiring decisions goes our way in the last 2 minutes and we're all having a different conversation on here.

May and Lever need to be better. In his young career, it's up to Petty to just play his role until he's confident enough to take on the intercept game a bit more. I reckon they'll be saying to Harry we need to have more composure coming out of the back 50 and just keep things simple. Use May's kicking and ideally Salem's to unlock that tricky kick in the middle. But at the end of the day, when we've turned it over by foot in the middle of the ground, usually our defensive shape prevents us giving up a score. Not to be on the weekend.

It's up to our leaders like Max, May, Lever and Petracca to step up. It'd be good to get Hunt in the game a bit more too. Already having Salem out hurt our rebound, but Hunt playing a shocker only compounded the problem. Next week we have to step up as a collective.

Too many, IMO, view him as purely an inside mid and it is our propensity as fans to look at the disposal counts at the end of games and judge based on this poor metric.

It was clearly one of his better games for the year and I think he's really building into the role. This week I don't recall any poor turnovers, so if he can rid those occasional errors from his game, he'll be doing everything right. 22 disposals is a Langdon type game and we rightly laud his contribution.

Because he was our big recruit! Because he kicked a lot of goals a few seasons ago! Because he has a huge tank and long arms! Because Weid sucks full stop!

Can't think of any more reasons why some on here think he's the answer. Has looked super average and honestly a slight liability when playing so far apart from Syd and some games against average sides in the VFL.

Expand

Not going to argue with any of that and I certainly wasn't arguing for the Weid to keep his spot - I am on record as saying I have little faith in either Weid or BB

I couldn't care less if BB has kicked 60 goals in three seasons his performance on the weekend was deplorable for a guy that wants to play AFL. He should not be gifted a game after that effort - sends a terrible message to the list

I'd prefer to drop them both and go with the formula that seemed to be working quite well before both these guys overcame injuries and became available for selection

What's wrong with TMac and LJ as talls and Fritta as third marking option - the dogs are quick and I think we are more of a chance if we have more speed not less (because BB is not quick that's for sure)

This week is a real test of character for our team - they have found a way in a few wins this year that for large parts of the game were uninspiring

The dogs have demolished sides this season when they get on top - hopefully we are on for 100% of the game

Tom Brown reckons Salem has a groin issue & good chance to miss this week. Interesting after Goodwin confirmed he'd be back in his presser. One to watch.

Salem (if fit) for Jetta.

Viney needs to come in if fit but it sounds like he might need another week. Docklands is not the best surface to return on with a foot injury.

Melksham started very well vs Adelaide but looked proppy at the end of the game and would be the likely out for Viney.

Chandler could come in if Viney/Melksham are not fit.

Casey play on Sunday and I would make Jones or Sparrow the sub and back up if they don't get a decent run.

I think Lockhart offers more run than Jetta but it is only a 5 day break for the VFL players. And Jetta has a good matchup in Weightman.

This is the first time I put Brayshaw down to be dropped, but I am a fan off putting him on the trade table at years end.  I'm not a stats man, don't really look at them, I thought he struggled on the weekend and has done so all year.  His skills by foot are a big issue

Posted

IMO Jetta has to be dropped even if Salem's not fit. I know the VFL is on a five-day turnaround but I just don't think we can take Jetta into this game on a fast deck at Marvel against the Dogs and come out alive.

On 24/05/2021 at 02:31, Yung Blood said:

Weid wasn't the issue on the weekend. He's played just two games and I think looked OK playing his role as a lead up forward.

His stats were practically identical to McDonalds yesterday. I thought he presented well and created marking contests both deep and further up the ground. He looks more imposing with his size and I think he'll work into AFL form soon enough. Apologies for being a believer.

@Jjrogan on the fast deck at Marvel I really don't think BB has the speed and agility to get into space at the moment. Not sure if he's just lost his burst but his inability to separate off his man is a real concern and from those who went to the Casey game whom I've spoken to he really struggled this week. Weid is much more mobile and gives your greater intensity/pressure when the ball hits the deck. Brown has looked almost in slow motion if he doesn't mark the ball and struggles to re-engage at the contest.

Expand

The stats don't really back this up too much.

At AFL level this season Brown's averaging 5.3 pressure acts per game to Weideman's 6 (i.e. less than one pressure act per game the difference), but importantly Weideman's averaging 3.5 defensive half pressure acts per game to Brown's 1. That's important because it shows Weideman is playing a different role to Brown and getting more ball up the ground away from the forward line. Taking the defensive half pressure acts out, Brown's averaging 4.3 forward half pressure acts per game to Weideman's 2.5 (just under 2 more per game).

Tackles is the same. Brown's only laid two tackles in three games but both in the forward 50. Weideman's laid 5 tackles but only 1 in the forward 50. Same with marks: Brown's averaging 3.3 marks per game to Weid's 4, but inside 50 Brown averages 2.3 to Weid's 1.

The way both have played this year, Brown offers us something different and IMO stronger in the forward half/50 than what Weideman offers.

Having said all that, it doesn't look like Brown played well in the VFL yesterday and I'm not a huge fan of players coming in without earning it (although to counter that counter argument, I don't think Brown should have been dropped in the first place).

We have Lockhart, Sparrow, Bedford, Chandler and Mitch Brown trying to break into the side as well as Jones. Some of our players were very poor on Saturday and may need a run in the two’s will be interesting to see how the coaches react...!!!

Agree, think we have to go back to the structure we had up to the Richmond game. TMac, LJ surrounded by 4 smalls/ mediums. Haven't played as well since.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
