So we agree Hunt had a poor game then? So, he needs to find form again right? So we agree. Excellent.

If you read my original comment I didn't suggest either would be dropped this week, just they IMO they will come up in discussions as players who need to lift.

I wouldn’t call 1 bad game for Hunt as losing form. I think it’s 3 weeks until you can discuss form.

I’d be shocked if Spargo is even mentioned at match committee. I’m not worried by dips and rises in particular stats. He’s as locked in as a role player can be.

On the shoulder like a wet rag.  Vince did it once to Danger against the Crows in Adelaide with some reasonable success years back.  Harmes loves a scrap but would need to curb his urge to hurt going the other way so often and stay right on Libb at the stoppages.  Hibb also capable surely?

You stop the damage of Danger and Oliver as they move outside the contest. Libba rarely gets any ball that is not inside. I would be looking at how best to stop their connection outside the first possession and would sit someone on Smith or McRae. Hibberd gets Bont when he pushes forward.

Harmes, Neal-Bullen and Spargo need to sacrifice on Friday night.

These are not the games these types need to be concentrating on racking up numbers, if they are involved and amongst the stats well and good, but main focus should be libba, Bont, Daniel and mcrae.

Thought Hunt was poor against the Swans as well, but you're right, it's not 3 games in a row. 2 out of 3 though, and all I said was that he needed to lift.

As mentioned, same with Spargo, I don't think either will be dropped this week, all I said is they may be discussed as players needing to lift.

Personally I don't think any player is "locked in". Everyone has their tipping point of form where their spot may be at risk, that's the whole point of competition for spots isn't it? Bedford and Chandler have both been pushing, neither I rate as highly as Spargo, but you pick your team based on form, otherwise B.Brown would be a lock and not at Casey hey?

Sacrifice what exactly though? None of them are huge stats grabbers, they're already meant to be playing pressure roles.

Harmes and ANB are already 4th and 5th for tackles.

Salem (if fit) for Jetta.

Viney needs to come in if fit but it sounds like he might need another week. Docklands is not the best surface to return on with a foot injury.

Melksham started very well vs Adelaide but looked proppy at the end of the game and would be the likely out for Viney.

Chandler could come in if Viney/Melksham are not fit.

Casey play on Sunday and I would make Jones or Sparrow the sub and back up if they don't get a decent run.

Going back to my earlier post.

Salem in for Jetta would be my only change. Sparrow the sub again.

My sentiments exactly! But only Test cricket, right? Pyjama cricket is ok. And BBL? Well, it’s just not cricket!

I would have thought Harmes goes to McRae, he gets big numbers, but he's one of the elite mids when he's given time and space to use the ball, if you watch their games he sets up so many goals.

Backing Oliver/Petracca to offset the output of Bont/Hunter and Libba and Viney to cancel each other out.

we really just need to keep their mids under control and back in our defence to hold up better than theirs if it's even everywhere else

Agree and just add to left field........Weideman in backline somewhere.

I can’t resist, I know we’d like two Tracs, but I think TMac is ok at FF!

Be happily surprised if Viney gets up but think Fritsch survives!

Agree with rest of your sentiments with one exception Benny FF for Weid!! TMac CHF!

Yep, BB could begin to turn it on and needs to save face after a doozy game with Casey. Weid has to be rested to play with Casey and thus test the consistency theory in his own time, not ours. TMac is now just mobile enough to hold down CHF and will draw defenders if that is the case. A floater or two and the midgets brigade will assist in scoring and confounding the Bulldogs' backmen. I'd also like to shadow Bontempelli with Hibberd, if it was remotely possible; Hibberd has the spoiling skills, guts and muscle to tag him closely and persistently. I'd also expect Hibberd to be able to run off the Bont when in possession, prior to some of his trademark clearances to targets.

Still, I live in dreams ....

I reckon Baker would be a chance to come into the team, maybe for Melksham

Baker played well at Casey - as least stats wise

Baker's main strength is his closing speed, enough to force opponents to take/make risky kicks and rapid turnovers in error. If Baker is ready to tackle everyone with the required zest and zeal, including gut-wrenching force, he will be a knockout asset to the team, replacing the pizzants that get a game no matter what.

Super happy for young Riley Garcia to debut for the Dogs against us.
I’m good mates with his Dad and he’s obviously pumped for him and would be flying over except for the ‘rona’.

Spargo to Caleb Daniel
ANB to Bailey Dale

Stop their rebounding half backs and you'll slow the dogs. Treloar & Dunkley out helps - run Harmes with Macrae or Libba all night, those two are more taggable than Bont.

Yep, although maybe not as much for that particular role for us. That would be the query though for sure. I don't think it's likely he comes in, only if Petty has a shocker and Maj has a ripper. The midseason draft is where my intrigue is piqued atm.

You're massively overselling Daw and as usual way off with Petty. It's laughable you think the club will drop Petty for Daw. Ever.

Far out mate. Seriously. You're on the angry pills lately it seems and I think it's preventing you from reading posts properly.

I didn't say Daw is a great player. I didn't say the club will drop Petty for Daw. I literally said "I don't think it's likely he comes in".

We obviously differ on where we think Petty's form is at, and that's fine, but the "laughable" thing here is you thinking your opinion is fact. Personally I think 5 disposals, 2 of which were turnovers, is not the sign of an in form player. You disagree. Cool. You can have whatever opinion you like, but drop the attitude mate.

You are right about their rebound from half back. Not sure ANB is the answer in a lockdown/accountable role. What about Harmes as a defensive half forward? Let the mids go head to head.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
