Yes, from going head down and bowling Nibbler over who had a clear run at the ball, to trying to feint his way through 3 sydney players instead of releasing a handball over the top to a running on goal Pickett, to Running 40 metres with the ball without bouncing instead of releasing when he had the first handball option he plays a contested, selfish brand.

Harmes took 12 steps. That's not 15 metres

Would also love to know why our forwardline pressed so high up the ground last night. Why did Brown not stay inside forward 50 all night? We had far too many talls jump at the same ball on the wing area.

Most of the second half was spent trying to defend and get it out of our backline. But one thing I didn’t like about Brown is his defensive game seems to be just dropping really deep rather than staying up and pressuring.

Sydney had the ball on a slow play at their half back and Brown will be on the fat side all the way at the back of the centre square. He even pushed inside d50 when we had Max and the key defenders back. Aerial defending isn’t what we need from him, we need him marking the hacked kicks from the backline, or streaming forward once we counter.

Goodwin countered in the last term by keeping 6 forwards which helped counter Sydney’s deep defensive drop. Brown took some important marks in transition in the last quarter.

Looked every bit of 15+ to me, but is was worth penalising for burning the free running Jackson alone. Harmes needs to remember he’s a tagger not Dustin Martin.

I thought the umps call was harsh and wrong.

This is one of the most bizarre "changes" thread ever. Individual biases against players such as Melksham, Harmes, Brayshaw and ANB are so obvious.

The change I would like to see is posters including in their comments whether they saw the game live or on TV. I'm convinced watching on TV does not allow an understanding of the roles players undertake which don't necessarily result in stats but contribute to the win. For example, ANB was running into defence to assist and was then the one who ran forward hardest and fastest to provide an outlet. Brayshaw runs back hard to help the defenders, essentially to allow Lever to play his intercept role.

And anyone who criticises players for dropping marks last night clearly didn't appreciate just how slippery the ground and the ball were. Instead, we should be praising those who held on to the ball.

As to changes? None unless forced.

You want to remove all initiative from players?

No, I want Harmes to give the first option. He’s not a good kick and he’s not as good as escaping pressure as he thinks he is. He burnt half the team last night and end result was a lot of turnovers or hospital handballs.

Spot on LDC. That is why I much prefer going to a game, tv is very much a secondary way to understand what is happening. We have won 8 on end there is not a lot going wrong. All players go up and down on game performance. Some on here expect every player will be 100% every game.

Should we rest Hibberd and bring Jetta in to take Eddie Betts? Hibberd did a great job on Papley but he’s definitely in veteran territory. Where as Nev has been an Eddie specialist.

Also thinking Petracca is going to be 50:50 at best. I’m not convinced that’s a corkie that will settle quickly.

Last week I gets shot down for putting Brayshaw in my Outs. Now everyone is following suit. I'm just a week ahead of everyone else. Also, shame on everyone for saying Mcdonald needs to go back. Thank God that didn't happen.

On Channel 9 this morning, the panel acknowledged the hard work of Kozi and Spargo - not mentioning ANB...

There was one passage in front of me where he put in at least 5 efforts in a row during a contest

I think he’s no longer the whipping boy

No change

Sorry DS but that's been Harmes' strength when he was on in 2018.  He'd cover off his direct opponent much of the time and keep him quiet and then punish him on the counter when the opportunity arose.

Great players are often great one way players (not always), obviously mostly offensively and don't like to chase too hard too often the other way when ball is turned over.

One of Harmes best attributes is exposing and punishing this weakness.  Where he often lets himself down is decision making with ball in hand and finish.  The area you are referring to in part is the instinctive give.  Would seem to be room for improvement there as well.

Hopefully some of his deficiencies (and most players have them) are being worked on by himself and those involved with his development at the FD.

If TRAC is ok I would give Gawn the week off. Looks out of sorts. If TRAC can't play then rest Gawn the following week.

No changes barring injury, Gus needs to lift or be harder at the ball, Frittata needs to take a chill pill Hunt runs hard and maybe the team should use him more but Langdon is so good it is hard not to utilise him as first option. I think the whole team need to be freshened up this week, a low load week to ease some niggles. We have a very tough young group and we may need to start rotating some of our players.!!

I'm with you. Here's where he collected the ball to where he disposed of it. The fact that he took an arc to get there is irrelevant - so long as he is never more than 15 metres from where he started.

To put it in perspective, if he'd kicked it to Jackson, who is the same distance away as collection point, absolutely no doubt it would have been called PLAY ON, NOT 15, so getting called too far is ridiculous.

I watch most games on TV and would appreciate not being lumped in with numpties with obvious biases.

Not a chance for mine.  Hibb has done the job on two of the most dangerous forwards in the business two weeks running.

Not only does he do the job of a very solid Nev, he offers more in terms his rebound running (meters gained) and long raking penetration down the line or by hand in chains off HB.

Nev is a great back up but coming off a 7 day break there's no need to rest piggy.

The only forced change that might be likely is Tracc.  I guess chunk comes in to cover here if Viney isn't ready but not really a role he would be set to play from here eh?

So does this open the door for Chandler?

Gus's form appears to be dropping away somewhat last few weeks.  Is he due for a freshen up this week?  Jones in to cover?

Carlton's on track to beat the Dogs.

We take them lightly (by "resting" players) at our own peril.

Carlton have just derailed early in 4th q and crashed off the tracks by the looks of things.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
