Gawn - uncharacteristically quiet game

Hibberd - finally got going

May - not his best

Tomlinson - a sad story

Lever - great second half

Salem - cool under pressure

Rivers - loose but energetic

Baker - little to commend

Langdon - kept on giving

Petracca - no votes today

Oliver - better second half

Fritsch - our most important

McDonald - important in defence

Spargo - great with ball

Pickett - genius at work

Brown - a limited debut

Jackson - enjoyed more responsibility

Jones - composed when required

Hunt - was rarely sighted

Neal-Bullen - had little involvement

Jordon - calm and tough

Melksham - selfish and limited

Very harsh on Baker, I thought his effort in the second half was commendable, especially in neutralising that 2 on 1 contest out on the wing. Needs to improve his disposal though.

He was everything wrong with Melbourne in the first half. Couldn't hit a kick, tried to do something and turned it over. Didn't feel like he had an opponent.

Sets a pretty high standard does Steven! 25 touches, 14 marks, 550 metres gained!

The only good thing he did.

Gawn - Dominated by Goldstein

Hibberd - Costly errors today

May - Not his best

Tomlinson - Gutted for him

Lever - Lifted 2nd half

Salem - Same as above

Rivers - Our best defender

Baker - Wasn't ready today

Langdon - Our best midfielder

Petracca - Lacked leadership today

Oliver - Good final quarter

Fritsch - Best on ground

McDonald - Big call coming

Spargo - Quietly good today

Pickett - Clean when needed

Brown - Okay not good

Jackson - Rising star award?

Jones - Slow but composed

Hunt - Good 2nd half

Neal-Bullen - Frustrating final quarter

Jordon - 2nd best midfielder

Melksham - 1 good quarter

AnB probably has a pretty big vault of bad games, but that was one of his worst in a long time.

probably the only unforced changed for one of chandler/bedford

baker was serviceable, actually competed and got to the right spots but cannot hit a chest with his kicks they just float and loop didnt give the target an advantage after theyd done the hard work getting front spot on their man

Salem, May and Lever for a start. All three feature in the votes of most Demonlanders,

Really shoudn't considering Salem was invisible until 2nd half, May was beaten in the air by a kid consistenly and Lever was fumbly until we took control.

Rivers* locked down Stephenson really well.

Unbelievably negative comments per se.

Came off an incredible win against the Tigers, played on a ground some have never seen.

A hard fought win, great second half, top of the ladder, yet so much negativity.

Really don’t know how supporters can be so critical.

Feel happy and positive , please.

Yeah. Spot on. Pathetic whining. Also disrespecting North, who were beaten by the same margin by Geelong 2 weeks ago - at Geelong.

I'd feel a lot better if Tomlinson and Viney weren't injured...

Not to mention how often since 1964 Melbourne dropped these games, not to mention how we have hardly won in Hobart.

In the meantime, in the Twos are two beauties with enormous potential - Chandler and Bedford - and Uncle Nev is playing great football.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
