He was easily our worst on Saturday just jogged around as far as I could see. But according to some on here he was playing a specific role for the coach!  But I agree if he wants more and plays well why not?

Pretty much all who have mentioned last week have acknowledged that he was ordinary last week and no-one has mentioned doing a coaches role in that game so don’t be a Kent and make things up

The latest Gus and Gawny podcast is well worth a watch where their featured guest is Nathan Jones. Nathan has been interviewed a few times this week, but to me, this interview is by far the best of them all. And Gawny's comments about Nathan towards the end perfectly sum up the players respect, admiration and love they have for him. Congratulations and much thanks to Nathan.

I’ve had a think about Jonesy’s career and you’d be hard pressed to find another player out there that has faced as much club adversity than him. He’s had more coaches than I’ve had jobs, he witness the club twice go down on their knees and be on the brink, the whole tanking saga which almost destroyed us, and he’s had to deal the tragedies of Jimmy Stynes and his former coach Dean Bailey passing away.

He deserves everything that’s coming to him and he deserves that fans forgetting his current form and just applauding him for everything he had done.

What an amazing effort from an an amazing servant of the club.

This guy bleeds red and blue. He carried the team on his shoulders for so many years during some dark times.

As loyal as the come. Congratulations Nathan Jones.

I can tell you write now, without a shadow of a doubt.

This man was the sole reason I came to the football in 2012-14 and why I never threw in the towel as a supporter.

For me his greatest captains game was in Geelong in 2015. 30 & 2/3 goals.

Couldn't love the man anymore. if form warrants and we get to the big dance, I would love to see him holding the cup!

Congratulations Chunk on reaching 300 games hope you have a beauty and more importantly a win.

Other players will no doubt get to 300 but I doubt one will be as meaningful to the supporters as this one. He was the one shining light and face of the club for so many years. It feels like he’s been on the journey with us. It feels like “we” are playing game 300.

I’m so glad he’s made it to 300 and I’m glad it will be played in front of a huge crowd, when we’re going well. He deserves it. Go Chunk.

Fun Fact!

If Nathan Jones forms warrants it and he doesn't get injured or rested.

He will go past David Neitz 306 and play his 307th on Queens B'day (with hopefully the Pies in a mess!)

Imagine a 10+ goal win for Jones becoming the games record holder on QB!!

Assume most will follow Chunk's lead  and get a Gawny tatt on the right cheek in the event of a GF win.

I'm cautious of canning Jones. Goodwin said Jones is playing a very specific role - we don't know what that is.  It might be: try to get inboard, 20m defensive side of every stoppage, opposition mark and free kick and prevent the corridor outlet and so force them either to go down the line or kick over your head to a waiting Lever.  In that case, if he does his job properly,  he won't be getting much of it and he may not even be laying tackles if they don't take him on.  I'm making that role up but in modern football structures it could easily be something like that and we have no insight.  We're winning and maybe we're preventing the opposition from taking advantage of the new rule with our positioning.  I think we'll find out a lot this week.

I'm too much of a ball watcher at matches to see this type of strategy and I suspect 99% of fans are too.  It take great discipline to consistently watch players off the ball, sometimes I try to but I find find my eyes magnet back to the contest eventually, and you can't see structures like that on the zoomed in replay.

I'll give you the hot tip - the more you think you know what's going on out there the less you actually do ...

Great player for the club and from his On The Couch and Gawn & Gus appearances - he knows this is the end and he is fighting for games and I hope he has a moment on Sat Night.

I predict he will be pushed out of the team inside of a month but I am so happy that he kept going and that we treated him the way that the greats should be treated.

I find it disgraceful that we are the oldest club yet have only produced 2 300 gamers. I mean Adelaide and the dogs have produced a few and we are so much older.

Has anyone got an explanation for why this is the case? Culture? Lack of success? Dumb chance? Opportunities outside football for Melbourne players luring them away earlier in life?

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
