Say what you like about Selwood, but heโ€™s been a champion player, who has set and driven standards from the day he was drafted to Kardinia Park.

Players like he Hodge, Hayes and Kirk are a rare commodity who change clubs.

Would have loved to have had him

Agree, he has been a champion player no doubt. His record shows it...

A Kozzie taking down Selwood thread, that becomes a TISM thread. What time to be alive.

Although it does need more Les Murray.

And did you see Selwood give Jonesy a friendly pat on the back when the ball went out of bounds.ย  I think they enjoy the contest,

I totally understand and agree with @Pennant St Deeย that Selwood is a champion and future hall of fame player who should be respected.ย

However there is a strong distaste for him especially amongst the players especially within games. Every week I see players giving it to him. I even noticed Sparrow give him a nice shove after getting him in a tackle where he was called for throwing the ball.

It might simply be that he talks a lot of [censored] out there or the well known narrative around him milking/playing for free kicks but in the heat of the game as others have mentioned these things happen. It's all part of the game.

Only one I don't love is when a defender is beaten in a forward marking contest or gives away a free kick and while his man goes back to take a shot another opposition player will come and really rub it in. Unless there is malice I don't really like it.

Yep, an absolute champion and an exceptional leader. Would also have loved him at the Dees.

That said, I do get a kick out of seeing his face when we beat them.

Agree, I dislike C.Scott and Selwood intensely but if I was a Geelong supporter I'd love them. ย Scott's press conference after last weekend's match was very good.

Selwood to me is like the Eagles, you donโ€™t like them, you love beating them, but you have to admire them

He was involved in plenty includingย  many of their chains forward,ย particularly off HB.ย  Without Selwood they probably lose that by another two or three goals.

While his slippy arm raise is annoying it still works after all these years and so many players still haven't learned or at least tryย to attack him lower at the hips.

There is by-play in every match.ย  Some teams more than others.ย  Joel dished it...Kozzie gave some back.ย  Kozzie may well have dished it out first after that half time goal and we just saw the retaliation from Selwood thinking he initiated it.ย  Who knows who cares.

Regardless, good competitiveย stuff that builds rivalries i reckon.ย  And one is definitely building here.ย  I for one am loving our matches against the Cats since we rolled them twice at the end of 2018 and again on Sunday.

Yes his press conferenceย was a ripper wasnโ€™t it. He was honest in his answers butย without being cliched. He was interesting to listen to and entertaining. It is a difficultย line the coaches have to walk,ย particularly with the emotions still running high, but he seems to be able to do it.

I think Viney has also had a bit of history with Selwood. I remember the story of when he spent most of our victoryย against them at Kardinia Parkย whacking into Selwood in 2015. After Selwood had to get patched up, Jack's priceless and facetious quip was 'Why do you keep bleeding?'

Lol

We didn't roll them TWICE we last at Kard Park by less than a goal then beat them in the Elimination Final.

If you don't know who TISM is then shut up, the footy's on the radio.

great player but he's ducking and playing for high free kicks is a big part of how he will be remembered by a lot of fans.ย

They have who can run the slowest races at athletic carnivals?

If so does that mean Jones finished behind seleood?

Huge Selwood fan. One of the best captains I have ever seen, and has single handedly - on numerous occasions - dragged his team kicking and screaming over the line for victory.

But my daughter and I went to see the final v Geelong in 2018, sitting near the boundary. We witnessed his whinging, playing for free kicks, and getting stuck into opposition players after the ball had gone. I can't help but be impressed with him as a footballer and skipper but can't stand all the other c**p he goes on about.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourneโ€™s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle.ย As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nationโ€™s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.ย

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
