Spargo another great game. Hunt even better than last week (safer with ball in hand today).

Agree on both counts.

Spargo is just being Spargo. Now he has friends helping him out up there.

Hunt's game was exactly what we need from him. A couple of good runs finished with some quality disposal and some fantastic contest work.

I can’t agree with those thinking Hawkins meant that. That was accidental.

Onto other things I think Tmac to FB, Brown or Weid to FF.

Are Geelong now considered bad enough for people to continue saying "but the Demons haven't beaten anybody yet"?

I will say yes, goes for next week too.  But we can only beat who is put in front of us.

Good win, keep them coming, bank the points.  Jack Viney underrated in Demonland.  Was super today.

Umpires and our shaky first quarter saved Geelong of a 50 point loss there.

At the back of our minds, we knew the umpires would attempt at various times to keep Geelong in the game. No 'ifs', no 'buts' just in plain view.

Incredibly satisfying .

Am I alone in thinking Hawkin's elbow wasn't accidental?

At first glance it looked accidental: after watching it a few times, Hawkins threw his arm back at May; that's no accident. And, Hawkins has form....

Loved the way Tracc and then Fritta in their post match interviews emphasised “team” and playing like one. It is clearly their theme this year and the results are coming as a result of it.

Couldn't watch live; still don't trust us not to lose a game like this to those bastards.

Now watching the replay with no stress!

Great team effort. Defensive work was unbelievable. Team assists unbelievable. Work rate unbelievable. All day relentless pressure unbelievable.

4 zip - just the start.

Finally reached team maturity - worth waiting for.

Yep, agreed. There's no way he meant that.

That's what it reminded me of. Absolutely nailed it.

doesnt matter

Criteria as I understand. Accidental doesnt come in to it   3 weeks minimum

Reckless, high and injury

Its mandatory right??

Our pressure and setup behind the ball was first class. We will miss May but there were signs today that we can cope. Lever, take a bow, what a game;

The team aspect of this is the most satisfying.

Also the room for improvement with goal kicking and overhead marking.

Petracca looked back to last year form.

The defensive set-up is working well.

Hunt played his best game in a long time.

Fritta was amazing.

Max with seven clearances.

Viney was excellent.

Best start since 1994. 27 years ago.
27 long years.

I’m really happy for myself and every one of the die hard demons that have stuck with us. I know this doesn’t mean finals or a flag but we deserve to feel good tonight

That’s correct when you choose to bump

Yep. If he is good to go, bring him in.

No Petty MUST be selected.
His form is deserving also.

Wasn't that long ago we struggled to win two or three games in a row, let alone the first four of the year.

Pity about May, hopefully it gives Petty a chance

Our setup without/behind the ball is the best in the competition.

Yep, looking good right now. Wow, what a difference from the practice match v Dogs.

This type of system works so well when every single player performs and stays in line. I think it's finally clicked, just took a little while to settle. I wonder how much is on Goody and how much on Yze and Chocco? Probably evenly shared I'd think

Jayden Hunt back to his best, which was all the way back in 2017, didn’t think I’d see it to be honest.

We are a much better team than we were in 2018

This is the best Melbourne team I've seen since the mid-2000s. I was too young to properly evaluate our 2000 team, but the jury's out on that as well.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
