Because he's a great footballer. If he was playing for any other team he'd be lauded as one of the best in the comp. Super player.

Saying nothing about Greene's talent. I'm talking about May's body strength. He was off tonight. He should not be being beaten in the contest by a guy near 10cms shorter and 15 kgs lighter than him.

I think he just out manoeuvred him, read the flight better. Got to the drop zone and managed to hold position.

Jetta did it to opponents for years, if you've got the smarts and lower center of gravity you can control the contest. May usually has a similar weight but he does it to inexperienced young talls who have the best part of 10cm on him.

Apart from one of the early 4th quarter goals I thought May did very well on Greene. Credit to the coaches as well for taking Jetta off him and redoing the defensive set up.

Another good game where we stuck with our system and came out on top.  What I can see is more planning going into the centre bounces, Yze influence? We completely changed our tactics for tonights game.

People whinge about how poor the GWS have been and they were good in patches, after being embarrassed last week they came out firing, which was expected, just like we would have done in the past.  Even without the injuries I do not believe they could have sustained it for 4 qtrs.  Our system is better than theirs at the moment.  We have had 3 games of sustained effort, finally! We can only play with the opposition in front of us, GWS tried to bottle up the game tonight and take away our run, we adjusted and came out on top.

As for Gus, from what I saw on TV he is improving in that role of the wing, enjoyed larges parts of his game tonight.  As for Kozzie, wow!

It’s not about winning by 100 points, I would have taken a 1 point win if I saw improvement in some areas of our game that we have struggled with for years.

Wayne Bennett currently coaching South’s NRL was head coach of the Brisbane Broncos for years. I think he’s won seven premierships as coach, six with the Broncos and one with St.George. When I lived in Qld I watched a little bit of league, I remember seeing him after some games interacting with the players and during his press conferences not wanting the players to get ahead of themselves. At times when the Broncos won against quality opposition he would be happy for the win but would go on to identify areas that needed to be worked on. When they had a win like we had tonight he would be scathing and at times take journalists to task who dare suggest they played well. When they lost he would highlight areas that the team did well sighting they had a lot to work with.

But how do you know what our coach is saying to the players behind the 4 walls? Its not the people on here that are coaching/mentoring or defining what areas need to worked on.

They have to sing the song....its part of the deal.

We turned the game around when they still had a full bench also. Thats been the difference so far this year, not completely caving in when the opposition get a run on. That in itself is worth celebrating cause its been happening for 20 years.

Hunt and Langdon were excellent tonight.

There was one moment where Hunt got it at half back and handballed to Langdon on the wing, then both of them sprinted down the wing together with their hair blowing back. If someone could dig out a screenshot of that, that'd be great, I need a new avatar. Think TMac has had his time :-)

Winning ugly is a good characteristic. GWS played pretty decently at times and have some talent.

The positives were the second year players Jackson, Kozzie and Rivers.

Brayshaw was more involved.

Langdon over 900 metres gained.

Fritta kicking 3 did his job.

Hunt was lively but his kicking could improve

TMac was double teamed and given little room to move because of GWS flood.

Nev struggled as did Jones.

Some harsh comments regarding tmac. He had a bad match but has been very good in the previous two. Should not be dropped on the basis of one negative game.

Bloody hell it’s hard to play well when the ball is being bombed into our f50 with 2 or 3 opposition players around you and a very crowed 50.

Tmac was important tonight to our structure and has been playing well in the first couple or games this season, let’s not forget that

Also I think it was spargo who kicked a point when Tmac was only a handball over the top on his own in the goal square. Should have done the team thing rather than going for the individual glory thing. We still have things to learn as a team which will hopefully come as the season goes on.

On a side note let’s hope we are better prepared for the cats keeping off style of game they played against us last season otherwise it will result in a loss again.

That's a giant win!  Three zip !!!!

We are serious contenders !!!

Max - what a captain!

Kozzie - just wow !!!!!!

I am inclined to agree. A win next week against the felines will advance this premise. Also kudos to Fritch - mega game - wow!

I thought that we outplayed them and should have won by more, they have a lot of talent, particularly Toby G, his five goals made them look better, it was certainly a tough game at times and also a fast moving and exciting game to watch as well, I never felt that we would lose. Max dominated and Kozzie thrilled, whilst Fritsch was also so important in the forward line. All in all a great team game. We have made some changes to our game plan and the players have really bought in. Very proud of the Boys tonight.
Go Dee’s.!!!!!

Always good to win but we so need Brown or Weed back. TMac not suited by conditions but he just won’t cut it. Also Jetta big question marks

Jetta has def lost half a yard or more and once the ball gets behind or his opponent is out the back he looks to be in big trouble.

If Hibb is cherry ripe he has to be given serious consideration to replace surely?

It's notable that we make moves much quicker on game day this year. When it was clear Oliver was struggling, they sent him forward and it could have paid off handsomely had he converted two very simple set shots.

They did for a while until they started pinging Clarrie for retaliating.

Proud of the way he composed himself. Not proud of his putrid kicking technique. Help him Choco!

He was well held, but had he kicked those goals forward it would really be another string to his bow. The ability to rest him forward and be damaging while breaking a hard tag would make us very versatile with Petracca in the team also. Oliver has the strength and marking ability to do this, so I hope he tidies his set shot kicking.

That’s twice now you’ve attacked the man and not the ball, that’s ok.

Did you read my above coach comments regarding Wayne Bennett?

What effect do you think it would have on the team if for one game we didn’t sing the song, but the players spoke openly and honestly with each about how easily tonight could of been a different result and about what it is we want to achieve. Do you think it would have a negative of positive effect?

We all want one thing but when certain aspects of our game continue to remain the same what harm can come from mixing things up. We shouldn’t be afraid to try new things and to hold each other accountable.

I'm not going to discuss anything further with someone who thinks you shouldn't sing the song after a win.

All the best in you life.

Many positives but really happy with Jackson. Also Hunt went to another level and much better from Gus.
T Mac looked a broken man at games end.

I agree Chook.  I've never seen a player so despondent coming from the ground after a win, aside from possibly a badly injured one who might miss a big final or heaps of matches/out for the rest of season.

He had so many chances and was just no where near it tonight.  The few touches he got were high up the ground on the wing.

The one area that could be used as an excuse was the fact we rarely won the ball from the middle and got it in to the 50 quickly.  Change this last part, which frees up the leading lanes somewhat,  and things might have been a bit diff for him tonight.

Not convinced. Contrarily, I thought May beat Greene. Convincingly. Open to be proved wrong with stats...notwithstanding, it remains IMO, a shrewd move by the Dees coaches. I thought it worked well. I was wondering how Greene would be approached and very happy with the method. Go Dees!

A good win, spoiled only by the shocking voice of Kelli Underwood. « He kicks down the loin »; « has he got spaaace and toim?»

Fox should send her for elocution lessons. It would be well worthwhoil.

It didn’t work years ago when they tried her on FTA, and she’s no better now.
“That’s why they call him slick Fritsch” just forced, cringe worthy rubbish. Her voice is also not pleasant on the ear. I hate footy commentary in general, but she’s bottom of the pile.

Dermie can [censored] off, too. Or as he would say; Dermie, as you would have it known, may depart from the assembled commentary contingent.

I love that we have been winning convincingly while some of our best players have struggled at different times. Oppo coaches are putting excess time into negating Clarrie, petracca, May, TMac (in form), and yet players like Hunt, ANB, Jordon and Sparky-pants have stepped up at times when it was needed. None of our wins this year have had the same 'Best on' list. That is a fantastic sign and may it long continue.

Oh, and Kozzie. I [censored] love him.

Agreed. Several of the less prominent are standing up whilst the more prominent are receiving tags. This is the hallmark of a great team. Plenty to be optimistic about. One thing, I prefer "Spargs" over your nickname for him...

Toby is and was outstanding. Credit to him.

To a man, our boys all played their roles.

Without knowing, you get the sense Yze and Chocco are having a profound impact.

Gus was important and composed when the Giants were on top.

Lachie Ash could be one to watch, recruitment wise.

Max is a terrific captain.

Go Demons.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
