Not only is the AFL website horribly laid out (eg. click on where you think the pull-down is for matches, you are likely to go to the Carlton page, not to mention that annoying box in the bottom right), but you will pleased to know our match today starts at 7:10pm AEDT.  Which I guess is true if we are still on daylight savings.

They need to burn it down and start again.  The editors there have too much power (I’ve had to deal with them before) - they are obsessed with video and have ended up with this shocking imbalance. Unreadable/unwatchable/unbrowsable.

Thats the site I use for AFL.  Everything right there in front of you with 1 click.  Scores at top of page.  Easy.

I am positive AFL.com was designed as some social experiment to turn footy fans insane.

Could not agree more. Absolutely hopeless in terms of conveying information, which is kinda an important kpi for a website.

As an example I also thought this hame was 7:10 start. Another is i tried to find info about next weeks prelim against the crows eg start time, venue etc.  Gave up.

Ridiculous given how much money must get poured into it.

It is the last word in poor design. My ten year old grand daughter could do better.

Just terrible organisation.  How anyone is getting paid to make such a mess of pretty simple content is beyond understanding.

out of interest are you using the app or the website

Both.

The app is worse, but that is more because searching around on app is harder.

Agree with the majority, it's appalling.

It used to be much better but as they've changed it over the years they seem to be focused on pushing videos down our throats.

They've made more stats accessible to us, but the page is so incredibly terrible to use it's hard to actually be able to review the stats they're making available.

I see the AFL website is still listing start times on the broadcast times website as daylight savings times.

They have stopped doing Team of the Week ?

Are you sure? It's possibly there but perhaps you have to click through 17 different places to find it.

I no longer bother with the AFL's own website. It's just too hard to navigate. I get all the news I need right here.

The broadcast guide is still on daylight savings.  Must be a saving on electricity for night games.

From a UX perspective it is awful: like most pro league websites I go there first and foremost for three things: scores, fixturing, and tickets. All three should be immediately accessible with one click from the homepage. They aren't. The site prioritises editorial and video content rather than fulfilling its obligation. It *works* fine but the customer journey is terrible.

Its definitely not on there.  Was about the only good thing on there so of course they got rid of it.

There are standard places on a screen where our eyes go, and standard practices most people's mouses(?) and keyboards follow. Microsoft made their money out of the easy and intuitive interaction people have with most of their products.

The AFL website totally lacks an intuitive customer interface. We have to work so hard to get the most basic and popular information

That b****y annoying match centre is ok once you re in it, but an horrendous design position for the home page.

As much as I love the video feeds, I also want to read articles. The default % of videos is way too high.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
