Gibbons kick - Cox jumping up and down on the mark!! Where was โ€œstandโ€?

ย

Jones is a liability at the back for Carlton. BB will fill his boots when we play them.

I suspect as the season wears on the โ€œstandโ€ call will get less and less vigilant as the maggots get preoccupied with other issues. This inconsistency will infuriate supporters as maggots will continue to determine the course of games in a most random and inconsistent way.

ย

Time for Casboult to make way for O Mac. Two very poor games so far.

Carlton losing always puts a smile on my face. Shame Collingwood couldn't lose as well.

Heats gotta come onto Carlton soon surely.ย

Ben could be a real handful if the forward lines remain as open as what we've seen tonight

Is he still 5 or 6 weeks off or is it more or less than that time frame?

As it stands I'd have Gawn & LJ rotating deep forward with T-Mac roaming far and wide

We need to stretch opposition defences with our height (that evaluation is based on the attacking footy becoming the norm with less congested forward lines)

Thatโ€™ll be the game. Blues 0-2. Season over?

9 years in a row. For all the talk and hype โ€œweโ€™re comingโ€, they are still mediocre at best. Too small in defence, lacking a dominant ruck, and a relatively old list

Saad looks unhappy - out of the frying pan into the fire.

Hope Jones is still in their team come our game round 9. Brown, Weid or McDonald should have a field day. Horribly out of form.ย

Cripps seems to have mastered the art of handballingย to his teammates ankles as well.

Carlton with a case of the CBF's for the Pratt trophy presentation.

Just caught the end of the game tonight on tv. The AFL seem to have a unique obsession with 'two bob' cups and trophies being handed out at the end of a game. Didn't Footscray and Richmondย play off for a Bloody Idi@tย Cup a number of years agoย because they were both sponsored by a drink - driving campaign ?ย ย

i actually think it's their mids that is the biggest issue - they don't defend

Hopeless in defence and midfielders being beaten. Keep Cripps quiet and you are half way home.

Cripps as overated Front running mid that I have ever seen Refuses to man up. Plowman the worst defensive efforts Ever. Time to Unleash Robocop OSCAR

At the moment Cripps is a liability with the ball moving around the park so quickly.

They might need to recast his role as his strength, which is in congestion has been taken from him and now he's become an average plodder.

With the emphasis on plodder.

The only time he looked dangerous was a couple of times in the ruck contest which at the moment is still a wrestle that plays to his strengths. Maybe forward/ruck might be his go.

It appears that the argument over who is the better mid, Cripps or Oliver might be settled fairly quickly this season.

Couple of suggestions here.ย

Get rid of that ugly spectacle of over short passing with five minutes to go. It's a blight on the game and could be countered quite easily. It's probably the only high class sporting spectacle that should have the result go down to the wire, and it doesn't.ย

It is not self suspenseful in my book, even particularly if it had have been closer.

Play around with distance or bounce if two short passes in a row. Just bloody do something. I'm the last bloke to want Blues to win. there is no climax, ask the players?

They could lengthen the kick for a legal mark to be paid (20 metres?) but I'll wear teams icing the game for now willmoy as long as the attacking nature remains for the greater part of the games.ย

I suppose an argument could be mounted that the team leading by 3 or 4 goals has earned the right to ice the game but I am with you in principle.ย

The custodians of the AFL should always be ahead of the game and be looking to always improve the spectacle.ย  Rugby League has that type of thinking and that M.O. works for that sport (especially with Peter V'landys running the show up there)

Great tackleย Adams. Reckon he'll get the 3 votes tonight.ย

That โ€˜goalโ€™ he kicked from the boundary hit the post.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
