I have been a Member of the MCC since 1982, back then The MCC Reserve was Men Only

I thought it was great, but it wouldn’t survive today. The pendulum has swung, as i said before, whether you or i like it Faulty.
The AFLW has seen to that. (I don’t watch it, but the younger generation does)

You and I may think it is an overreaction, but that is irrelevant

We have to play the game, if we want some new elite Training Facilities

Also helps that it is the right thing to do!

it's all BS, od

the melbourne club male-only rules is BS

the reaction to the coterie club booking is also all BS

it's all BS about being outraged over political correctness and the misguided power of social media by a noisy minority seeking significance and craving attention

you can participate in the BS or ignore the BS but it's still BS

beware of what a society you wish for.....we are headed for idiocracy

Is this the only thing we have to worry about in 2021??

I used to be upset about men only clubs, women only clubs, women only gyms, but I got over it.

Who bloody well cares for goodness sake???

Careful, you don't want to be labelled a virtue signalling, snowflake, woke, leftard

The majority of "consumers" want woke-leftism politics to keep the hell away from sport. It is the tiny minority of loud mouthed virtue signallers who demand every organisation kowtow to their leftardism who make this an issue when it is not.

Like I said, it's nothing more than pissweak pandering, but you guys can celebrate your victory. Good for you. ?

I don’t want my footy club or its supporter groups hosting functions at a men’s only members club.

It’s the year 2021. What you call virtue signalling is simply people trying to do better. We know better, so let’s do better.

This in a nutshell is why it was it was silly for Bartlett and pert to agree to speaking.

And why it was right thing to do to encourage the group to find another venue and remain on the bill, so to speak.

And leaving aside being the right thing, it is good business.

A great irony of the thrust of the complaints against such a decision ( ie that they are driven by a so called woke minority with an outsized, social media driven, influence and threat of being 'cancelled') is that in reality they are often cold hard, business decisions.

The bottom line is misogyny is bad for business.

Like the dr Seuss palaver. What a nonsense all the woke cancel palaver is. The dr Seuss foundation made a business decision to no longer publish six of their 100 odd books because they were racist. Six that didn't sell i might add.

That's not cancel culture. It is the opposite. It is a business choosing to respond to the market. A business decision. The right one, but a business decision nonetheless.

A decision that is made in the context of a changing culture, where casual racism is not acceptable, not some woke  minority but to the majority. They didn't do it 20 years ago - when it would have hurt sales.

"I can't believe the woke 'cancel cultured' my ability to keep slaves, imprison homosexuals and beat women!"

- All the triggered snowflakes in this thread probably.

Whether you disagree or not Bartlett should of known that certain areas of the press and public would react to this decision. It’s all about marketing and this looks bad, plain and simple.

Well, the very people who hold power, and whom  we are hoping will give us $$$ and support to get a home base. Complete imbeciles.

where did the season launch get held - did it go ahead at the AC?

I could not find out what happened.

Did Bartlett take on board the feedback?

We are no different to the racists at Collingwood or the exposed culture of entrenched sexism and misogyny on Capital Hill. Much of society, and by extension, the MFC, is completely blind, and contributing to, the normalisation of the abuse of women. This subtle but pervasive structurally embedded sexism is the personification of male power and control, which of course, is the root cause of gender inequality that manifests as domestic violence, rape, sexual exploitation, unequal pay and a plethora of other abuses. We are all implicated when we allow other people to be mistreated and patriarchal symbols such as the Australian Club are used to raise funds for our beloved club.

you are spot on QBD

it is subtle this gender stuff - my sisters didn't have the chance to play AFL like I did cos I was a male.

there is one eg of gender imbalance that we are only in the past 5 years fixing up.

got to be an inclusive club not exclusive - the MFC was seen as an elite place and we saw how that has not served us for 55 years.

our club has made some terrific changes I'm saddened by this move.

I should be able to attend any gender function or cultural gathering so long as, I respect and act according to the cultural and basic social norms of that group.

In an all female group, if I acted without male dominant, masculine behaviour, should I not be accepted and welcomed?

In an all male group, if I acted without female dominant, feminine behaviour, should I not be accepted and welcome?

Religious identity, political and racial groups should be the same.

If I am able to act within the norms of a group should I not be accepted and welcome?

Down with all barriers, have all the doors passable.

If I am an inflexible, non empathetic and unable to walk in the shoes of my fellow human beings, refuse entry. Though difficult to tell from first appearances. Let them in anyway. Why the segregation.

Though I really doubt whether such people really exist. Usually they are acting antagonistic.

Respect, the other. If you are a socialist at a meeting of capitalist. Can you not see the others point of view, act appropriately and probably walk away wiser (Visa-a-versa apply's).

Humans are adaptable within social situations, if we drop our ego down a bit, not rock the boat, perhaps we can all get along.

Perhaps they should have direction and expectations of how to act available.

A belief for a night or for a lifetime.

I want to live the utopian dream and not in my private Idaho.

Tell him he is dreaming.

Half flank once told me,  The Melbourne Doves. All white guernsey and cheery theme song.

We will all be sitting with the Collingwood cheer squad singing 'kum ba ya", together, in a few decades.

Are you going to try and get into some of those inner suburban baths that are closed off to allow Muslim only females to use them?

Yeah, fair enough.

So after reading 10 pages of discussion I am no closer to understanding whether anyone is attending and can provide any insight into our plans re facilities, membership, and coaches views on the list and our prospects for the year.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
