In the D land of make believe looks like a classic "smokey".

According to the online Dictionary of Australian Slang there are two possible interpretations.

Smokey

1. marijuana dried and prepared for smoking;
2. horse (substitute player) whose form has been kept secret; rort horse

Of course 'punters' can make there own choices; but it appears that Chocco in the Harry Strang role has masterminded the late switch here.

ps. Kye will indubitably appreciate the billiard like surface of Casey Fields comparative to the Montmorency minefield of past performances. But he may need to select cruise control and set the alarm clock for the long limo journey from the outer northern 'burbs to the far southeastern commuter belt.

I’m trying to understand the logic behind this move at such a late stage. I’m assuming in December they were comfortable with the list composition and just wanted to give the young guys a look.

Because we now are 4 players short on our list, with the 2 list gaps and now Neitschke and Hore out for the season.  They have had a good look at Deakyn Smith and Farmer....perhaps they have decided they won't be offered a spot.

Better to look at further options, even if Smith and Farmer get spots, we still have 2 holes to fill.

We’ve had 3 gaps for a while now though, and surely they’ve had a read on Farmer and Smith for a fair period of that time. I understand bringing Majak in as a flexible tall to cover the key forward injuries.

I’m more surprised that they want to give an ok VFL player a look for 1 week - not long enough to really evaluate - on the back of an injury to a guy who was unlikely to play seniors anyway.

Looks like a weideman type. At 24 he would be worth looking at. Majak may be Casey bound this year.

To mobile and flexible for Weid type. Runs freer and is far more versatile.

Agree, the timing makes little sense to me.

I can't see Declase being an alternative to Daw and I can't see how Nietschke going down motivated us to go look at Declase.

I suppose could be a retrospective admission that our list was unbalanced and the Nietschke/Hore injuries are giving us the chance to re-balance it?

I'd be interested in going along if thats the case and spectators allowed. Otherwise, I hope its streamed like last week.

In an interview in 2019 with ex Demon Jack Fitzpatrick Kye says his best position is the wing.

That said, I don't take much notice of those types of player comments, albeit I thought it was interesting.

He certainly seems flexible from a positional point of view.

Could be, maybe the biggest take away from Friday’s games was Casey is light on and sure could do with some class.

Good find. I’m all for cycling through as many players as we can to find the answer on the wing. His VFL stats show a lot of handball receives, decent possession totals and about a goal a game. That could be indicative of a winger.

And it was Mark Williams playing him on the wing in 2019 for Werribee, although I don't believe he started the season there.

A 24-year old, 195cm mature wingman that is good overhead. Sounds like the club have identified a pressing need!

How long would he need in the system/doing a preseason before, with form permitting, he gets a senior call up?

I agree that the wing is definitely a pressing need if Baker is merely 'ok' in a few cameos but will go missing, other players are shifted out of their best position to accommodate or if Rosman will need a year or two learning the craft.

I'd much rather take a punt on a tall than yet another dwarf-sized forward.

was it not this time last year where we were screaming out for anyone under 180cm to do something in the forward half? and now you're complaining that we've looked at too many?

a non t.mcdonald need. whether we intended to use him on a wing but the lack of KF means he's there now so we need someone for the near side with tomlinson going back is the case? or as a backup to lever as an interceptor without hore? who knows but i think it's a good sized addition to the list

You never know I guess. Unlikely that he can come in straight away. AFL fitness is a massive step up.

Then again there are a few cases of VFL players making the step albeit with a full preseason!

The Isaac Smith trade will probably end up being a far bigger miss that some on here are prepared to admit, when we see him feeding off the cats mids this year.

I think this is to keep Choco happy, he has probably been pushing for this guy since he arrived at the Dees.

This could pan out well.

My sauce tells me he could add some flavour to the mix.

Keep williams happy. Knows more about footy than Goodwin.

What is he playing up forward now ? Thought he was recruited by Cats for his run and penetration from the wing to kick to the forwards  !!

Thats what  We were after when we were after him I am certain.

I think you are vastly overplaying his role and  he is already injured.

While Rosman was ordinary last Friday I have faith he is the right recruit fir this time as we will get a decade of excellence from him on the MCG wing and occasionally cameoing up forward.

I look  forward  to him being There as one of our best when we get that 13 th flag. There is no guarantee Smith would have been.

He does look adept amongst his peers in the highlights reel. He is very young and possibly very trainable. With new coaches about, we must surely be focussed on an increase in development of younger players, recruits and more widespread skills and attributes. Perhaps this young fella meets such criteria?

Ludicrous suggestion.  As if they'd ask somebody to train with us if they didn't think he could offer something to the team.  I just can't believe we or any professional outfit would do that just keep an Assistant Coach "happy".

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
