Meanwhile, Essendon has jumped in and signed 18 year old South Australian prospect Kaine Baldwin who is expected to be a gun once he gets over his injury woes.

The MFCSS is strong with this one...

What's your plan if Max gets injured while Ben Brown and Weid are out and TMac and Jackson are covering for them in the forward line?  Are we going with Austin Bradtke in the first ruck?

We're screwed if that happens anyway as Max is worth 3 players to us - ruck, forward and defence. Daw wont help much would just be a big muscular block of wood who can't really play footy. He's bloody muscly though!

So what's your plan?  Shut up shop and concede those matches?

Pray it doesnt

Its less to do with Majak being good, and more to do with the fact we need coverage for BB and weid while they are injured. Recent history tells us we cannot rely on Tmac to carry the forward line. Having Majak available is prudent.

this, and also he's a 30yo on a list clearly bottoming out and would just hold back younger types if he stuck around any longer

could be a gun, could be another nietschke hardly a comparison to us and majak. one club wants to play september the other is at the beginning of a rebuild

But he’s not “ready right now”, at least Daw has the chance to potentially be ready for the early rounds. I don’t know if any 18yr old rucks who have been able to make an impression at AFL level.

That 50 years ago DC. Surely there is a more recent  example.

Would we play Daw forward or back or as a backup ruck. Surely he would be a “break glass in case of an emergency” pickup !!

Provided that you mean '...glass...' represented as the opposition, and '...an emergency...' represented as static forwards happily waiting almost motionless for the perfect drop on their location.

Big Carl had everything! There has seldom been a better example. Even in his sunset Demon career, he was an immense driving force. It is fully agreed that at 17 years of age, Carl was a little rough around the footballing edges but that had all vapourised by the time he reached 18 years.

I saw Carl  in his 3rd or 4th match totally dominate the Dees at Junction oval..with Stewart and Baldock on fire and Bob Murray kicking goals at full forward, they beat  us easily...though we did go on to win the flag later that year!

that was just what popped first into my head, od

anyway, seems just like yesterday to me

I think your memory may be playing tricks on you, 3031.  Big Carl debuted against Melbourne in the opening round in 1963.

Thanks for confirming my point.

how about natanui then?

He was what selection in his draft year and he ave 10 touches a game in his first year? Dc come on buddy, a choice between Daw and an 18yr old with an unfortunate injury history to combat a short term (fingers crossed) depth problem seems pretty straight fwd to me.

Actually, it was 55 years ago. (I was at school with him.)

I believe today is the final day for selections to be added to club lists via the pre-season supplemental selection process. Good luck to Majak, Kobe, Deakyn, Kye (and Oscar).

(I've just noticed that you apparently needed an unusual first name which includes the letter 'k' if you wanted to be considered for a spot on the MFC list through this process.)

Lol

I guess Kyle Dunkly and Kade Chandler also somewhat support this hypothesis!

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
