It is typical PR spin to pretend a disaster is a great success and something to be proud of.  If you pay attention to what is being said it is usually clear that they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes.  But when that lie is just too much of a stretch to be at all credible, it is piling a disaster upon a disaster to try that sort of wheeze(*).  Whoever advised Eddie (himself?) to try that line needs a new profession.

Edit:  Jack Niall's report it-was-anything-but-a-proud-day-for-collingwood  says "...although it did not address Heritier Lumumba’s case, on the grounds that the 2010 premiership player had chosen not to play ball with the review".  Convenient!  Hard to understand why they couldn't still investigate what happened internally.  End result:  No-one to apologise to, no-one to compensate.  The more that comes out the more staged the whole thing looks.

They probably could have investigated it under point 1 of the terms of reference if they wanted to.

However i think the real issue is that it is an undeniable fact that in almost every western, democratic society (and others too no doubt) that men are the ones who have the power, influence and status.

And it is equally true that most men are in no hurry to cede their power, influence and status.

One of the best or perhaps worst cases is the AFL. What the AFL badly needs is  an outside appointed to replace Gil. But I doubt it will happen. Old boys clubs are only replaced with them kicking and struggling to preserve the status quo.

Have you forgotten that Collingwood appointed these people to do the review. They were not forced on them by some outside organisation. Me thinks you protest  too much.

1. That doesn't shock me. There is however a school of thought that in business there is significant pressure on women who are ambitious and seek leadership positions to play the 'man's game' and adopt the behaviors that go with that game

2. True. I wasn't suggesting men have a mortgage on wanting to hold onto power. At the risk of generalizing, I do think though that at women are better at comprise and sharing power and not as interested in influence or status for its own sake

Eddie will be gone by the end of the month if not earlier.

Sponsors will have been on the phone demanding action and while not specifically asking for Eddie to go that will be the implied price.

Eddie will be publicly painted as a martyr in that he will say that the issue had become about him and that it should be about the way in which Collingwood has openly dealt with the issue.

I used to think that a lot of the complaining about racism was compounded by people being too thin skinned.

I now understand that I will never completely understand the feelings of a person who experiences racism because I can never walk in their shoes. Fortunately for me I have come to understand that most people with a skin colour other than white experience the problem on a regular basis.

We have to do better as individuals and as a group.

    As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
