Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks for that Gil. Seriously there is a difference between giving up some things and being their slave. If they continue to ignore fans who prefer going to games the base will quickly erode. Why buy a membership if it gets harder and harder to go to games.

The AFL sold its soul a long time ago OD. Way before Gil came along. The fans are rusted on and they know it. The best type of customer.

I am not Bda. This year I did not get to go to a single game.  I watched the Dees  matches on FTA and little else. and I did not ask for my membership back. However this year I thought about it before renewing. If they continue to treat people who attend matches with contempt then the Dees better have a good 2021 or by this time next year I could easily slip to attending Amos matches live  and AFL will be an occasional tv watch . The sad part is the AFL probably don’t care what I do, I am expendable

Because they are completly control by the broadcasters. I think that Gil is now Broadcast media CEO. It is getting to the stage that going to a game is not important to the  AFL. Why bother with a membership just sign up to Kayo and get all the other sports as a bonus. I am sure he would be happy with that. Oh and get a hair cut Gil you look ridiculous !

yeah, but.....the nrl are just as dependent on tv (ch9 in this case) and they have lower crowds at games

memberships or membership options definitely at risk

spot on about the daggy beard and hippy haircut.....surely he can't be lacking the coin

I have little care for NRL DC. They have always had low attendance numbers unlike AFL.

Unlike the AFL they got their rule change right. The "extra 6" rule is great.

Their vault review of plays is terrible and is a lesson in how not to do it. Refs rarely call ties these days without a referral.

I've always believed buying a membership is not just for attending games. But, for many that's what it's all about and I agree if it becomes too hard to attend, people will transfer their habit to a screen.

I'm dead against football on Monday to Thursday nights, other than special occasions. I would, however, favour Sunday night football as a regular thing.

I have for a lot of years considered a membership as a charitable donation LDC, as you say getting in 0n a match day is a bonus. However we are in the minority. A large group of members would not buy a membership if it gets to hard for them to go to games. Why would anyone make plans  early to go to a game under the system for 2021 and you would definately not book an interstate trip. While i have been a member since 1972 ( with four lost years ) I am rapidly reaching the age that if it is too hard I wont go, then comes the question why am i bothering with a member ship? I enjoy going and watching a game live if going to watch the MFC gets too hard I would prefer to watch the seconds ( that too gets increasingly difficult in 2021 ) or the Amos. In 2019 I went to as many Casey games as the senior games. While I am a MFC nut case I really dont care about the rest of the AFL. If there was no MFC I would have no interest in Aussie rules at the senior level it just aint that good to watch anymore.

Gil got an unprecedented amount of credit for getting a season competed but at the end of the day we were the only code in the world that shortened all of their games and minimised it’s product.

I think 17 games was the right call. I’m no great fan of Gil but other competitions didn’t have to deal with border closures in country to the same degree the AFL had to. It would have been a big ask of the 10 Vic teams to prolong the hub by another 3-4 weeks to fit in more games. Hub life is far from ideal for families never mind wanting to get back home to see extended family, parents, brothers, sisters etc.

We also suffered with our heartland being the state to have the biggest outbreak and so the toughest measures. It meant having a hub in Melbourne was out of the question. Had the hub been in Victoria we would’ve had minimum 3 stadiums (potentially more at the likes of Ballarat, Whitten oval, Princess Park, and dare I say it even Casey). I tip my cap to the NRL for doing what they did, but logistics were harder for the AFL, particularly with having to deal with WA.

I agreed with the shortened season but I didn’t agree with the shortened games/quarters.

The shortened games cheapened the product IMO.

I didn't mind the footy frenzy ... during the school holidays (June/July?) works in terms of a captive audience and lets face it,  there's not a lot of quality programming on TV anyway.

As much as I now view the sport as a defence based sport (a bit of a grind) it's still miles better than the junk we get served up as an alternative (especially on the commercial networks)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
