Yeh, Oscar at present (2019). During that season. Wasn't performing to the standard.

We had nobody to replace him?

A year later we get May and then Oscar is delisted.

If you're arguing ridiculous semantics, perhaps the semantics that Binman likes. Things like, 'the fact that he's an AFL listed player means that he's AFL standard' then I'm not biting.

We all know players are given opportunities on lists. And many of them do not perform. To the standard.

I'm just saying mate, you've been criticizing OMac for a LONG time, so when you're saying 'he's not currently up to AFL standard' for like 5 years straight then it's pretty clear what you're saying.

Just own it. You're allowed to think he's no good and not up to AFL standard. People will disagree, but that's footy. There's a ton of players with premierships who people could argue weren't up to standard. It's not as black and white as a lot of people in this thread want to make it I reckon.

No [censored].

He was underperforming in the senior team for too long.

Maybe go back and dig up one of my posts from when I praised him for performing to the required standard at times too.

You'll have time to do that given you dug up one from 2019.

Omac trained down back at Carlton and was thrown forward with no preparation after injuries in a practice match.

Are you sure?  I thought it was reported that he did some training with their fwds.  And he played fwd in their practice match a few weeks ago.  Kicked a few goals if iirc.

At MFC he was seen only as and used only as a Defender (except once or twice for a quarter when we shuffled the deck in desperation) and he had little chance of making an impact in a role he had not been prepared for.

It seems to me that Carlton will use him as a swing-man rather than pigeon hole him as a fwd or a def and have trained him accordingly.

Teague has a different view of Oscar's abilities than Goodwin did and developed him accordingly.

It doesn't make Goodwin wrong or a poor coach like some (not yourself) are alluding to..

I'm rapt for Oscar.  I loathed the abuse he received on here and am pleased to see that since last night many are wishing him well.  As you say:  Good luck to him.  Deserved the second chance.

I didn't blame Goodwin at all.

Some on here do.

I read something after that game where he or the coaches said how he had been training down back but with injuries in the game they said "look we know you've been training with the defenders but just go out and have some fun" or something like that. If I can find it, I'll post it.

I can't be bothered digging up a 2019 post, but I do recall making a joke that we should throw Omac forward and watch as he turns into Wayne Carey, turning our season around and carrying us to a flag. Goody did it a year later for a quarter wasn't it?

Anyway, it was fantastic seeing Oscar perform well last night.

I reckon Salem is much better than your average AFL player but not quite in the elite category as yet.

Watching Saad play in the same position  last night is where Christian should be aiming.

He needs to run and carry, as well as taking on the tough kick inboard a lot more often before coming elite imho.

Yea i was being generous. I think he used to be better though.

Always thought he was unfairly derided on this site.  Must be time to change my user name.

Just change the "c" to "k" in honor of Oskar Baker. Another who'll face more than his fair share of criticism.

They haven't developed his potential in any way.

Yes, oddest thing about this thread. He's not playing any differently at Carlton to what he did at Melbourne. A different position, maybe but even there, no different to when he played forward for Melbourne at the back end of 2019 (when our other KPF's were injured) - and where he probably would have played out the season until being injured himself.

MFC is a 3 goal better side with Oscar gone

The fact is he has been replaced by now our FULL BACK of the Century.

Yes  its an early crow call but perfectly correct and legitimate.

Truth is we are a 5 goal better side with both now Maysie and Jake LEVER producing their very best and the only Quibble is from our bean counters of paying TOO MUCH for both.

Well if you are to rise up the ladder that's what you have to do. The pieces will be filled in by Rivers Salem Hibberd  and probably Bowey in the BP and Petty at CHB, who will join the A graders. Tommo again  was pretty good  and reliable.

We have now got 2 defenders playing AGRADE footy in defence and they know where the pieces are to stand and man up etc.and direct accordingly.

Contrast this with the mids and forwards who are random groups of players all trying but not a cohesive unit hence the Undoubted hit and miss Scramble of positions and unaccountability of each member of these potentially fruitful Team jigsaws.

Far too many easy kicks from  the well drilled mids and cohorts from the west Went forward only to butcher the ball On the money shot for goal or pass to an inexperienced Team mate. ( Familiar ? We do it almost in our sleep each week )

It was  criminal by our standards and if Sonny Walters and heaven forbid The Big Pav had made a comeback yesterday the chocolates would have all been shared by all and sundry at the Border gates and beyond that Mark MacG has so ably broken all political records without even a show of ONE fancy party trick to seduce his Masses! In fact Dan and Annastacia are positively riveting in comparison with Gladys trying very hard to be Both the comedy queen and Mother Boss of all things Covid!

We have bought BBB and now need another leader in attack to help arrange the pieces Kossie plus the well thought out other post today who is our leader of the mids?
To gain maximum results both these areas need a master and we will not MAXimize our success until they emerge.

As always pure talent is not enough without a General  in charge and an efficient game plan to direct proceedings successfully.

Over to you Goody Ooze  and Staffo plus Choco we await the results of efforts and maybe another Pair of recruits like Stephen and Jake to Whip these Loose cannons into a premiership oiled machine like the Tigers are on the big stage.

I am dreaming already Jason Dunstall seems to have some spare time perhaps he could drop in to the Team meetings with Hodgy as sidekick to assist!!

Tom Browne reporting that Oscar will miss around three months with a bone stress issue in his lower back.

Tough luck for the bloke, I hope he gets through it OK.

That’s fairly inconvenient when you’re attempting to resurrect a career. Best of luck to him.

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
