Disagree

Both had seasons which were about  as good as their ability Would allow.

We lost Lever fir most of season

We were One of the best defensive units after about Round 12.

Our forwRd  line was Still off sometimes as per the Swans  game In Round 21 when Jesse got injured.

Goody refused to put Frosty  on Hawkins earlier in the last quarter at KPark resulting in goals vs Oscar. Till it was too late.
Gawny missed goal vs Cats in Round1 after siren Firwards that day had every chance but couldn't get us over the line!

I don't disagree. At the end of 2018 we rightfully went out and got May to improve our defensive stocks.

My post was more to show some appreciation and respect to a player who played his role for us and gave his time and effort to the club rather than "[censored] myself laughing" at his AFL career.

You are making the point that MFC is particularly bad at managing developing tall players and used OMac as an example.  I used English as an example of another club mismanaging a tall in worse ways and @whatwhatsaywhat brought up the even more conclusive example of Josh Fraser.

Your whole shtick is unique "MFC mismananagement". You seem unable to follow a relatively straightforward rebuttal.

I never made that point.

I said we didn't develop Oscar in the manner we should have.

You seem unable to follow what I said.

hartigan to the hawks is definitely a hit for our ability to offload omac to another club.

he's too old

they've got Fish and Butts down there with Talia, Kelly, Doedee all tall types they won't be picking up 24yo rejects in the key possies

We’ll trade him to his desired destination for a token late pick or he’ll get there as a delisted free agent.

Well that’s the point!!!! If all we are to get for Oscar is, eg, number 70 in the draft, are we not better to retain him? Perhaps as Rookie? How many very late draft picks turn out to be as useful as Oscar? If u disagree, have a look at the first two finals in 2018

If u agree, then have a look at 60 other games where he was poor.

Let’s agree that Oscar should be traded out as a mercy rule for all Dees supporters.

Truly, that is rubbish! We started off with Lever and Tom McD playing back in 2028 .Lever useless early on, then a bad injury as he was starting to improve. Frost only  got a game after Lever’s injury, plus the decision to play Tom forward— a pretty good decision  as it transpired. Mid season onwards ( after we were smashed by Pies on Queens Birthday) Oscar and Frost were the key backs. Have a look at our results thereafter. Look at the two MCG finals, then tell me that Oscar can’t play.

ive never seen such a set against a player, because he LOOKS, awkward, non athletic . How many times has he been beaten badly by a one on one opponent? . I ask friends why they seem to detest him and its always “ look at him— he doesn’t look like a player”

And it’s the treatment in sites such as this which has [censored] off Tom, so we are likely to lose two utterly decent guys in circumstances which won’t reflect well on the club.

watch the sydney game, hes slow and was getting beaten out the back when everyone knows u gotta keep the ball in front in the wet, when he got the ball he took three decades to decide what to do with it and was caught and then the coaches just tried to throw him where he would do the least damage and had him at FF and in the ruck!

Yeah O Mac was so poor in that game they had to send him to full forward just to stay out of the way.

(Mind you he had a few mates that day)

Again - correlation but not causation.

Our biggest weakness in 2018 was our inability to stop sides scoring when they got through our forward press. That was in large part because the individuals we had back there weren't that good (i.e. Oscar and Frost).

Our improved form in 2018 wasn't because we put Oscar and Frost down back, it was because we improved so much around the ball and in our forward line that we hid our weakness (remember, our losses to St Kilda and Sydney in that second half of the year were where our back half was exposed and we didn't score enough from the inside 50s we generated).

Oscar has been a limited footballer his entire career. He doesn't deserve much of the name-calling he gets on here and other sites but that doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss his limitations as a footballer. As I've said before, he has no physicality, still gets moved off the ball easily, and struggles to get involved offensively with any impact.

Agreed. They are giving Aidan Corr 600K/yr for some reason. So I assume O will be snapped up too

He got smashed by McKernan enough said.

What's our late-pick record? I recall Morton maybe going to WC for pick 88. Can't remember any bigger slaps in the face than that. Would you rather be delisted or traded for an eighth-rounder?

i think that was prior to the delisted free agents being able to be simply picked up by a team

When? Which match?

a lot depend on what one makes of Tomlinson. Lever does not play as a key defender. Never has, he didn’t at Adelaide where Talia and Brown were the key defenders. Lever can, nevertheless be useful if given little responsibility on a gun player . Can Tomlinson play as a key defender? Or Smith? Perhaps Petty will be the man. I haven’t minded Oscar playing a purely defensive role on a tall forward

2019 at the G McKernan kicked 5.

Mitch Georgiades. Tim Membrey. Shaun Mckernan. Jack Darling. The list goes on of blokes that made Oscar look decidedly 2nd rate.   imv the club will look to offload Oscar to anyone who’s interested and maybe get a pick in the 60s or 70s or just delist. But it’s just imv

4 teams currently interested. Don’t expect much in return but Oscar very likely to find a new home

we on traded it for david rodan iirc so not too bad overall

and rhys palmer went from gws to carlton for pick 117 or something equally outrageous

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
