Projected Best 22's 2021

Featured Replies

I know it's very early in the piece with trade and draft period yet to conclude, however it'd be interesting to see what people think is the best mix for our 22 given who may be coming in/going out for next years season? Could be a best possible scenario or what you think may happen this trade period with likely inclusions.

FB: Hibberd May Lever

HB: Salem Tomlinson Rivers

C: Langdon Oliver Baker/Phillips

HF: Fritsch Weideman Brayshaw

FF: Pickett Brown Hunt

FOL: Gawn Viney Trac

INT: Jackson Lockhart Spargo Harmes

Next few: Melksham, Smith, Sparrow, AVB

It doesnt look too likely that there'll be too many more inclusions past Ben Brown this trade period, however would still love to have Phillips on the wing. My only other thought is if Tmac stays, I'd like to see him have one last crack at CHB and see if Tomlinson can crack that wing role, if not I still think that we're relying too much on someone like Baker to perform out on that wing at this stage in his career. I know Melksham seems to be immune from the axe at selection, but I really dont think he has too much to offer that Fritsch already does.

My thoughts exactly Demonstone.

Petty must be chance too.

Has Petty done any training this year at all

I wouldn't be relying on him too much just yet

Even if we land a winger we're a pressure forward short (IMO).  Maybe Spargo / Hunt / Bedford can get it done but the teams that do it best have lots of options - eg Richmond were able to trade Dan Butler out last year and are looking to trade Higgins this year and they still have numerous options up there.

Otherwise we're banking on Yze being able to fix all our centre square and connection between midfield and forward line issues.  If it were possible, then it would certainly be easier to play a pressure forward role in our team.  I hear Yze's good, but not sure if anyone is that good.

That is what “chance” meant.  He would be a chance to be in our best 22.

Why start this thread on Day 1 of trade period?  Why not wait until the end?

Why make this thread at all? Given the team is different about 80% of the time each week.

Yes Proper

Chance needs a modifier to mean anything right?

I reckon you nailed it pal, pretty much the best we've got available at the moment.

i'm itching to get involved here but i'm not convinced that we'll bring in any of phillips or mckernahan as yet...nor that we'll ship out any or all of t mac or o mac or hannan or preuss or avb or anb, who all seem likely options to depart (or at least what we'll get back for them)

this is NOT the team i would go with necessarily, but it is one option...

B: Jetta - May - Lever
HB: Rivers - T McDonald - Hibberd
C : Langdon - Petracca - Salem
HF: Melksham - Weideman - Fritsch
F: Hunt - B Brown - Pickett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Harmes - Jackson - Spargo - Brayshaw
Emerg: Baker - Hore - Petty - J Smith

for now it looks like

Lever May Hibberd

Salem Petty Rivers

Langdon Viney Baker

Fritsch Weideman Harmes

Pickett Brown Jackson

Gawn Oliver Petracca

Brayshaw Spargo Hore Jones

emerg: Lockhart Tomlinson Melksham Bedford

Is Werridee a bit of a rainman - can't talk or comment about anything, just keeps inanely filing teams like they are of importance like Qantas airline.

this, this should concern absolutely everybody connected to the MFC, we should all be fired up and angry if we go into next year and a player as bang average as ANB is considered unlucky to play 1s in round 1.

we're still bloody slow. so much for working on our deficiencies

there's a week of trade period and a draft and a pre-season to go; settle petal

Were not after Philips so I will change the team.

HB: RIVERS, TOMLINSON, SALEM

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, BAKER

HF: MELKSHAM, JACKSON, FRITSCH

F: PICKETT, B.BROWN, WEIDEMAN

Pick 43 is a chance he is the difference between us winning a premiership or not.

Personal pet peeve: anyone who puts up a best 22 without also listing at least the emergencies (thanks @AaronDaveyChipsAndGravey) but preferably listing the next 8-10.

There are 40ish on a list, and while the top 10-12 are always locks, outside of that there is normally almost always a controversial call. Working out which fringe player was not included is always a pain!

Cant say I am too thrilled by the best 22''s.     Tomlinson at CHB is depressing.  Need Harrison Petty to have a big summer.

So much will come down to the improvement of Pickett and Luke Jackson.

Also need to clone Travis Johnstone, he would be the icing on the cake for this team.

sooo.......

B: Hibberd - May - Lever
HB: Salem - Tomlinson - Rivers
C : Langdon - Petracca - Harmes
HF: Melksham - Weideman - Hunt
F: Fritsch - B Brown - Pickett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Jackson - Spargo - Brayshaw - Baker
Emerg: Jones - vandenBerg - McDonald - Smith

impossible to factor in the picks until we know what we're getting really, particularly when the picks are likely (?) to change

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
