Ok... I'll stop.

Hi all. I can now report that Sam Weideman has been traded to Essendon. We're still a big shot at Hunter and we've discussed trading for a KPF. Few big hours coming up. ✌️

37 is better than I expected. Pretty happy with that result. It’s not like Weid was going to play.

We have got that Petty option, I'm in the camp that he saves more goals than he can create. But it's definitely an option with Tomlinson and Turner in the wings.

I think we need to see where TMac and BBB are at over summer and leading into next year.  We probably need 2 of TMac, BBB and JVR available each game for the next 2 years.  If we get 100 games out of the 3 of them across that period then Petty can stay back.  I should add that we need to recruit another ready to go KPF by the end of that period - I think that's possible - we can clear cap with outgoing players and we have a strong future draft hand.

Yeah, we can always leave a spot open for a mature ruck at the start of the season.

Please tell me your sauce is credible.

Speaking of pick 37. Harrison Petty says hi.

Talent to be found around these picks for sure.

Have always liked the Weed and would like to wish him well but it's tough when he's going to the goat rooters.

If it's possible to be successful in a completely unsuccessful club, then I wish him that.

I've been sworn to secrecy, but you know me, I've got a good track record.

Pick 37 for Weid is a great deal!!

Had 7 seasons with us, unfortunately never came on

All the best Sammy.  I hope you stay fit and can put a full AFL season together to see how you go

Turned 33, 43,& 53 into 27 for Grundy.

Turned Weed and 54 & 72 into 37

Basically swapped Weed for Grundy and a slide of 4 picks in the second round, and a loss of a few late picks we where unlikely to use.

Win

13, 37

I am assuming 86 is used to promote Chandler

Good luck Weeds.

37 makes Weid expendable and whilst there’s still some chance he goes on and makes himself a career it was very unlikely at Melbourne.

Part of good list management is knowing when to let a player go for their own sake and to keep the managers happy.

If Weid goes on to have success and is a fair minded person he’ll probably regret not doing it sooner but he’ll also be thankful we gave him the chance to do so in 2023.

This year’s pick 37 for Weideman would be preferred to a future pick given we’ve acquired a few already through other trades. Don’t know if that’s realistic though.

Well done!

Got your wish!

All the best Weid. What we all wanted and what we got didn’t quite match up.
Missing that late goal up North a few years back was a telling moment sadly

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
