Good to see Tom Browne getting in on the "scoop" after Sam Edmund's report. Such a bottomfeeder ?‍♂️?‍♂️

Higgins was 1st round pick 17. Played 43 games in 3 years, despite having his brain operation.

Saints first pick this year is 14. Second isn't until the late 50s.

Will he interestingvm to see how they pull this trade off, and any others that might come up for them.

The worst.

Cue wild speculation from Tommy on the dollar amount of salary and contract length reported as fact...

Even if the Evil Doctor is wrong, I find it just a bit of fun and good entertainment. IMO he doesn't take it too seriously and I suspect he won't throw the toys out of the cot if wrong, unlike some others

Or just go silent and then make a brand new account with a different name on the same day i get Banned.

Tom Browne could probably treat himself to a jog or salad on occasion i reckon.

Jack Higgins officially requested a trade. Rumours are he’ll end up at the Saints.

Sam Edmunds said he had no info that he would go the saints, it was only his hunch.

Yeah. He supported them as a kid and they're actively interested in him so think everyone's putting 2 + 2 together. Hopefully he slips through to us.

Have the signed Jack Lonie, wasn't there talk he was on the way out. You would think a in the 30's for Lonie and is around same value for Higgins

Thanks DX.

I work in the corporate world so what you say is true. What I would add though is the external mentor must be completely impartial/neutral. Internal mentors may have their own agenda and therefore will not necessarily give you advice which is in your best interests. There is a conflict of interest at play.

That’s what I see here as well. If Goodwin mentors Smith who then becomes a good player Goodwin might convince him to make a career move to Essendon (where he was coaching at the time) which may not or may not be in smith’s best interest. There’s an obvious conflict there.

I would be 100% against an assistant coach from West Coast mentoring young Rivers for instance. That coach would have an obvious incentive to sway his decision making in favour of the Eagles.

I agree with this, insofar as indistries can be limited. I'm in a professional services environment in which there are only few hundred people Australia wide specific to the area of technical expertise. So there are external mentors, related to general career or internal related to technical. They have different roles and different frequencies.

So I could absolutley see an ambitious young player having a mentor within the footy industry, and one external, general to professional sport, say someone from rugby league.

And I could imagine an introduction to Goodwin as a fresh retiree (still more Adelaide than Essendon) as a "1st year player mentor", that has grown past that into a loose informal relationship over the years.

All Im saying is it is not as unimaginable that it could happen as some are suggesting.

I'd 'like', but then i'd be a massive hypocrite ?

So was told today that Richo is getting promoted. Had no other info but has good info out of a few clubs, saints being one of them.

I just posted this in another thread but Mitch Cleary said something similar during an AFL Exchange podcast yesterday: Richardson getting a larger role including head of football and head of coaching sort of stuff, Mahoney getting a different role involving list management.

It may well be that a decision has been made in the last day or two (explaining why it's now leaking out) and a formal announcement may be imminent?

From what I've heard with the role changes, Mahoney will answer to Richo and Green. Sounds like the review found maybe Mahoney had too much autonomy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start to look for other opportunities at some stage now.

Going to be an interesting dynamic now. I feel the Mahoney/Goodwin clique might be dissolved somewhat and with a future senior coach now joining us who played with a board member it definitely puts Goody in a different position.

Can't say I am impressed with this dynamic to be honest Nev. I've raised concerns in the past having Green on the board with 0 experience. I do know that in terms of his coaching experience he was rated that highly internally at North at Carlton hence why they gave him the flick.

Hope this isn't Chris Connelly/Cam Schwab/Garry Lyon all over again...

Yeah it could go either way I reckon. You're right it could end up a bit of the 'boys club' again, but tbh I feel like we already had that in a way with Mahoney and Goody so I'm willing to take the gamble for now and see what happens.

WOW!  Mahoney misses out on CEO job (to Pert) and now is demoted by Pert to a far lesser job to report to his previous underling (Richardson).  That would be brutal by Pert.  If that happens it smacks more of politics at the top than sensible organisation re-structure.

If the Richo reports to Green (or any individual board member) we have the reporting and accountability all wrong.  I would be very worried by Green's appt to the Board if his role becomes managerial.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
