I wasn't suggesting we don't trade him, commenting more on folks saying his form has been poor and inconsistent.  There was good reason for that which is easy for folks to overlook.

In his favour (imv) he is far better than ANB, AvB plays injured and one wonders how long he can keep that up and on par with or slightly more valuable than Hunt.

But if he has market value, we let him go.  Altho would much rather let ANB go but I suspect there are no takers.

No problems LH but if every player whose form was not great in 2020 is excused because of 2019 fitness and 2020non VFL footy we won't improve our list.
Mitch is 26 ANB 24 I think AVB is 28 but under contract and I am in favour of retaining Toby Bedford and happy with Spargo's 2020 progress with 2 of his very best games vs Pies and Giants. We need that EACH week of course.

But Mitch  is older and that IMO weighs against potential fir improvement.

Hrnce my negotiation suggestion re player rather than a draft pick trade.

I'd be happy to delist Hannan, so if anybody wants to take him for a pick under 100, good luck to them.

Clearly has ability, but doesn't work hard enough and goes missing way too often.

He's Mr 20%, he plays really well once every 5 weeks.

I wonder whether part of Hannan’s frustration would stem from seeing the likes of Melksham and AvB consistently avoid the chop (Melks in particular) despite being equally ineffective in the games.

Personally I’m a fan and could see a trial on the wing for him. I’d still be offering him a 2 year with that said with an option for a third should he break through a certain amount of games.

I am a fan of Mitch but if we Think  he can't Offer more ie improve in 2021 then let him go.

Maybe look at a trade of a player from the Dogs like Trengove or Schacke or even AhChee. All have greater potential ( and Could be are a level above Mitch's best ) therefore a 3 Rd or 4 th rounder might be necessary to get a deal done .

Just think that our Player bottom no's 15/30  this year were so disappointing ( and of course they did it tough With no real games ie VFL) but we have no tome to waste with players that aren't going to improve us.

Mitch's fitness is a bit of a query ( as would Ah Chee's be also) But let's look at next opportunity to switch a couple of deck chairs Ie nothing ventured nothing gained!

who is this AhChee of the bulldogs you speak of?

If the Bulldogs really want Hannan , I am not interested in a pick. I’d force their hand and ask for Louis Butler.  Sure he’s only 19 and played no senior footy, but I rate this kid and was surprised that he was left in the draft until pick 53 last year.  I had him around a pick in the low 30s and would not have been disappointed if the Dees picked him.
Had a very good under 18s year at Sandringham and Vic metro and captained Brighton Grammar.  He is like Trent Rivers in his run, skills, intensity and size.  A very good kick which is a must. Suits a half back or wing role. Let’s see if they are interested.

Mate, he was drafted last year and is contracted until 2021. Bulldogs will not give up a kid that I'm sure they rate highly for a bloke who drifts in and out of games and someone they can get for a 4th round pick or delisted free agent.

Have to be realistic here. We'll be getting a late pick at best.

It's not like us to overrate our own players...

Bulldogs see Hannan as an upgrade on Sam Lloyd and Tory Dickson has come to an end. They seemed to have Vandermeer and the inconsistent Bailey Dale as half forwards.  I think they are still p&$d-off by us grabbing Hannan ahead of them after he had a very good year in the Dogs VFL team in 2017.  My point was that you ask the question and see what is the response.  Hannan is worth at least a 3rd round pick imo.  50 games. Consistent goal kicker.

they're surprisingly yet to announce delistings but OOC are ALOT of those mid type nothing players hannan barely an upgrade but like us theyre trying to try something different so fair play to them and i wont be surprised when he's off their list in 2years. hopefully we can weasil their first pick out of the deal once we make our other moves and get the late points up

Yes the Dogs will try to engineer points so we might be a willing partner in pick swaps. It’s a crazy time Cosmo Kramer Mind Blown GIF

As a number of people have said is about a number 30 on our list. Too inconsistent. He is one of those players that is good at VFL level but not good enough senior level. He has had his chance, go or stay I don't really care either way. If we ever make a GF he won't be in the 22.

Officially requested a trade to Bulldogs. i feel a bit sad about this, liked him. But this is life, if Goodwin didnt play him, then fair enough and we have a few of his types.

Had potentially but never really shined. Was a handy inclusion at the time but not really there if we are to progress to the next level.

Hopefully we can engineer a decent trade that may be on traded to secure Brown. or someone else that we may require.

This is a bit disappointing. Will always remember the sealer in the semi final against the Cats in 2018.

Come to think of it, I miss that winning feeling - it's good for the soul.

This one:

Spine tingling!  Still brings happy tears.

Up there  with the Watts QB goal for unbridled joy and emotion.

Sad to see him go.

Late 3rd - early 4th round pick would be about right.

Bulldogs have pick 48, but no 4th rounder. So it's pick 48 or pick 84 unless there's swaps or players involved.

Getting 48 for Hannan would be a win IMO.

Similar to Kent in my opinion. Both decent fringe players with a penchant for memorable goals. We'll swap him for a can of coke and he'll do well for the Dogs, but we won't lose much sleep at the same time.

His goal in 2018 is easily the best MFC goal of the modern era IMO. Best wishes Mitch.

Don't think the dogs will offer up anything this year, they need all the points they can get, might even end up being a 2nd round next year and we give them Hannan and 62 & 63 this year, so ends up being around a 3rd rounder but they get extra points this year and we get the better pick next year.

Think it's about time we put 2018 to bed really to just great memoriesUp until Prelim Final.

The Support fabric of that team are not up to it NOW viz Oscar Jets Hannan Melksham ANB snd AVB sadly plus Smith And Hunt who both really havn't improved much. Maybe one or two others I can't think of.

Also our plan is nit the same and not able to be practiced 2 years on.

This  is why we We're so inconsistent In 2020 because our Top 10/12 played pretty well right down to Fritta and Weid ( still much room fir improvement though) plus Hibbo BUT our lowest 10 on any given day most from my list above did not  contribute other than cameos.

Hunt Spargo and Baker showed some good girl in odd games but went missing for 2/3 games when needed as support to our stars.

Thats why we need to stop looking at some on our list and move on ie move than on as we will not improve.

Really Baker Jordan Sparrow Bedford and Chandler should all have been given time and matches to test them out this year. We are none the wiser re them to hold or release some!

FWIW Sparrow looks the goods Baker showed some great skill and needs at least one more year free from injury and I think Jordan has always looked promising his pace being questioned mainly and Bedford improved but his next level is needed consistently and who knows? Plus Chandler who May be lucky to survive.

This year we had May and Trac improve markedly to A graders and who knows if our 12/ 30 on the list Many of those improved we could be like the Cats who have found that this year with a slightly more altered and more aggressive game plan and consistency from most on their list.

Lets get it together Dees in 2021.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
