he can't play back. i suffered through watching him play back for years. he was awful. just because he can play back doesnt mean he CAN play back.

i rkn he still gets to the dons. they literally have no tall players on their list... last year mbrown out no replacement, this year daniher, phillips, mckernan, bellcho gone and only wright in. lots of faith in draper at 22yo off an acl and unproven crauford and bryan who are unnatural in the forward half.

TMac was an Ess ploy.  I guess various clubs play  those games but but I think it is low life tactic.

They are probably one club that should go for Tom.

I think the SCG suits Tom, as the ball comes in quickly and he can play close to goal.

Nobody wants his contract. Time to focus on getting him right, I'd like him to switch to defence and free lever up to be or our intercept player. He played his best footy for us as KPD in my opinion. 

My guess is the "Interest" from Essendon was just a ploy to get a better deal on Wright. i think given there is 52 hours left and he doesn't have an obvious home, he's now pretty likely to stay on.

And with reference to Lucifers hero, that was stated on the Tim & Gary show by Maclure that Essendon feigned interest in McDonald to force Gold Coast into a deal. A better strategy is to carry his wage next season and depending on his performance he is more likely a better trade target at the end of 2021.

Have no info, just speculating. But if GWS was an option, nothing could get done until Cameron gets sorted, as they will need the cap space for Cameron if they were to keep him (even though that's just part of their negotiations). With Sydney, I'd imagine that would only be possible if Aliir moved to Port, from a cap space and key position player need perspective. There were rumours I think early on that TMac had medicals already with these clubs, so you would think these trades could still happen late.

Therefore if you are in the camp of wanting to move TMac, I think you should be hoping for the Cameron and Aliir moves to happen

There is a lot still to play out with GWS as well in terms of its draft hand.

They're pushing hard for higher picks in return for Caldwell and Hateley. If they end up trading Cameron and then securing good picks for him, Caldwell and Hateley, they'll not just be cashed up but they'll have the picks to throw around for players.

Didn't Tom tour their facilities? They could take both Macs to add key depth at both ends of the ground.

Cameron, Williams, Langdon, Hately, Corr and Caldwell leaving plus delisted players and maybe Mummy retiring, frees up a hell of a lot of cap room.

If Tom agreed to to an incentive component with the club he goes to, plus our subsidy,  it would soften the impact on the receiving club's TPP.

It isn't a lower package per se.  He can get the same but needs to do more to 'earn' it.  It must be preferable to playing two years at Casey.

A few candidates that might have another look (in likely order):

• Sydney will lose Aliir Aliir and were very interested in Tom in 2018
• Can GWS rely on Jesse getting on the park each week?
• Carlton look like they may lose Curnow for the best part of 2021
• Collingwood if they lose Cox
• Ess are taking a punt on Wright to spearhead their rise up the ladder

And AvB could be packaged with Tom if he went to a NSW club.

Would love this to be the case but I think:

• Syd - no cap space.  Aliir went to have enough space to bring Hickey in to ruck.  But they are short in defence unless McCartin goes back.
• GWS still have a bunch of forwards (and defenders) that would be ahead of Tom.
• Carlton - Curnow hurts... but is TMac going to get a game ahead of McKay, Casboult, McGovern?
• Pies - they may have a need but how could they possibly get rid of Treloar (Phillips, Cox, Stephenson etc) largely due to salary cap issues and then take on a large salary from an underperforming / injury riddled TMac.  Doesn't make sense.

Still think Ess / North are our best chance as they should have salary cap space and may want some senior heads around... but neither seem keen.

It does appear that there is no alternative club for TMac at present - and/or he is undervalued due to injuries and contract details. If the Dees retain him as a consequence of this status, maybe he will be able to recover fitness and match readiness over the summer break, and move forward to his better performances akin to those seasons prior to the last. 

Tom can play CHB and can run, when well. His backline role needs some tweaking, however. He often relayed his intentions across the backline and into the forward line just that little bit too obviously in the past.

Yet, he could out-run most of his opposition forwards, in circles at times as the game progressed, as well; he is also a strong clearance interceptor, both with the fist and importantly, marking the ball in packs.  He has enough youth to rebound fitness-wise and is almost an adaptable player at both ends. Interacting and anticipating with our stronger backline personnel (May, Lever as 'intercept', Hibberd, Salem and a few of the newbies - such as Sparrow) could relieve some of the 'Rock of Gibraltar stuff' he had to perform in the past.

 His contract is a difficulty but he is a loyal, motivated footballer who has served us well, reliably and surprisingly.  Tom may serve us very well once again. It is our risk; we set him on this path and package, we need, perhaps, to display some loyalty to him for his previous efforts and successes. If it does not pan out, then he will be of good value with Casey to near the end of his tenure should an alternative not emerge across a timeframe.  Best wishes to Tom, it will be a difficult off-season for him at best.

With my suggestion of an incentive based component and mfc subsidy I would guess his base cost to a club would be around $550/$600 not much more than Phillips is apparently on.

My math is $700-$750 k package.  $100-$150k mfc subsidy. $50-$100k incentive component (games played, BnF finish) etc.  (And/or the other club could add triggers for a contract extension incentive and use that to trade off some base $).

Tom is a proud guy.  He would give his all so would work hard to get the incentive back and to stay in the team.

Are we sure that incentives such as the one you've described don't count towards the salary cap?

If so, wouldn't clubs just structure their contracts with massive parts of them incentive-based?
