not to get ahead of ourselves, but here's an early '22 look. particular interest in the height of ed's first round prospects, great for us with all our talls around the 29-31 bracket

Would imagine that weโ€™ll try and grab Brisbaneโ€™s pick, Ashcroft will go high and theyโ€™ll be looking to bank lower picks.

Agree, the F/S at the pointy end of the draft always add a bit of interest as clubs want to trade back.

No doubt clubs will be sniffing around some of our players at the end of next season.

Sonsie and Lohmann would be terrific additions. Really excited by Howes & Lohmann in that medium forward group.ย  Starting to take a shine to Fejo jr, keen for us to have a look in the 40's. A few keen Crow fans believe that the Crows love Rachele and may pounce on him higher up.

Another who was around the 15 to 20 mark coming into '21, but slides because of injury (taken at 35 above) is Cooper Murley. A bit of Zorko about him:

Looking at club lists yesterday and I think we are the club with the least ruck options after our main 2. We donโ€™t have another player over 198 except BB, who is a forward, not a ruckman.

Daw our back up, is 195 and will be 31. I am still surprised they let Bradtke go this year.

Most clubs have 4-5 200cm players who can ruck.

Also we were the worst disposal efficiency club in the AFL this year.

That is an interesting stat for the Premier, as normally you would think the Premier club has pretty clean ball use.

Didn't seem to be any problem of our disposal Redleg when we launched our great 7 goals in 17 mins NOR the 9 goal last quarter crowning glory our best for the season!!!

Snd I saw it live !!! Best Footy by the Mighty Demons ย in the 62 years I have been attending matches.

As Daisy (or someone else) said on the commentary "Melbourne are playing that good they can make and clean up their mistakes in the one piece of play".

Perhaps Redleg it's a case where the theory does not match the practice.

Kangas May one day be looking for a positive stats man Please consider joining them and giving yourself a real challenge!!!

Ed Pascoe has also had a crack at a Phantom Draft. Hereโ€™s the first 25 selections:-

Imagine if the Suns recruit Andrew? They are hopeless at developing talent and Andrew needs heaps of development.

Richmond had the same stat in their premiership years, I believe (and stand to be corrected)?

Anyone seen much of Fejo jnr? I know this is a highlights package, but wow:

Gee, he reminds me of Harley Bennell, but looks like he plays more back behind the ball.

People are complaining about the rule change that prevents clubs from matching bids for their NGA players. If that wasnโ€™t the case, Melbourne would have to expend almost all of its draft points to match the Suns at 5. It simply wouldnโ€™t happen. Happy to take Sonsie who is a class above and is ready to play from day 1.

A trivial observation:ย  'Josh(ua)' a popular name 18 years ago, especially in Victoria...๐Ÿค”

Apart from Mac, Pascoeโ€™s phantom has none of our nGA/Fs choices going in these rounds. ย So we pick them up as Rookies (if at all). ย How do we assess Moniz-Wakefield and Woey Jnr?

Maybe not the best place for him to start his AFL career. But that might make it easier to convince him to come to the Dees in 2 years time.ย

I had it explained that slow play chip kick sides like the Cats, will have higher disposal efficiency , while our style of play leads to less disposal efficiency. What that means is that certain stats donโ€™t affect winning as much as other ones.

Agree. IF we want him and he goes to another club, the hope is that it is an interstate one.

GCS recruiting Mac Andrew would be an incredibly risk move; they need someone who can make a more rapid on-field impact.ย

Well at least we can easily get him back in 2 years time.......

So how many players are we at 95% confidence they go before our pick:

1-2: JHF, Daicos
3-4: Darcy, Callaghan
5-10: Hobbs, Rachele, Andrew
<15: Ward, Gibcus, Erasmus

Thatโ€™s 10. Goater, Amiss, Wanganeen-Milera, Draper? Anyone whoโ€™s a lock to go before what will eventually become 19?

Starts to get variable after 10 and heavily dependant on individual club views. Iโ€™m reasonably convinced that Wanganeen-Milera doesnโ€™t get past pick 13 now (after being viewed as a 25+ range kid around 6 weeks ago). Beyond that, such a wide net from 10-30. Would love for Sinn to slide to us at 19, but a heap of good options.ย

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chancesโ€”plenty of themโ€”but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Portโ€™s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
