We’ve had the benefit of 12 months of learning from him.
If he goes he goes but surely we’re not dumb enough to completely turf out his programs and methods altogether.
There’s no doubt the group was in better condition from 1 year with Burgess than all those years spent with Misson.

Where’s the edit function gone?

I always assumed Burgo wanted 1 year to keep his options open, not sure if he wanted to return to European football etc.

Hoping he is not lost

Very healthy cannibals The Crows.

Personally would've deep fried Burgess with Hoisin sauce.

Maybe we are waiting for the soft cap before renewing his contract.

Last year Mahoney reduced our coaching and List Management people/budget and reinvested in Fitness which was sorely needed. I've said a few times we may have robbed 'Peter to pay Paul' and weakened our coaching panel.

Losing senior and expensive staff (Viney, McCartney, Rawings and Jennings) and only partially replacing them (Richardson, extension of Stafford's role and Lewis part time) would have 'saved' in the region of (guessing) $500-700k to be used for the Fitness dep't etc  There is a very good chance a chunk of that went to hire Burgess.  Fair to say he cost a lot more than Misson.

So speculating that he could be too expensive to keep under the new, much lower soft cap, especially if we are to rebuild the coaching group.

Looking from the outside in I would be having Burgess locked up into another year above most football department staff. While I don’t think we took full advantage we were one of the best teams in final quarters for the year which suggests mental lapses through the games rather than physical.

We also had our best injury run for a long time (making it harder to swallow poor performances) and I’d also be interested to know if May’s full season could be put down to Burgess’s fitness management. I’m hoping that with these uncertain times and turmoil that’s gone on in the world he has no interest in uprooting himself and his family. Of course there are plenty of Victorian clubs who I’m sure would be keen for his services.

Get onto it Bartlett. We need Burgess for at least another 2-3 years

I am so sick of this Club losing Staff early

Didn’t he try and get out of the original contract not long after signing because an English side offered him something no AFL club can compete with?

I assume he will be back overseas ASAP. Why wouldn’t you take the kind of money they’re offering?

Playing devils advocate here, but I wouldn’t say that out fitness levels were overly superiority compared to other clubs.

Our injury list would say otherwise.

Guys, calm down, we'll just get David Mission back. problem solved.

Lock it in Eddie. Wait. I’d like to use a lifeline.

Gotta say, your posts are becoming tiring mate. Stop the bullying and contribute something of use.

Look, I’m no fitness specialist, but it ain’t rocket science. There are a squillion people out there with degrees in this stuff. Are we over rating this bloke? And before I get the usual bricks thrown at me, I used to run the tan in 12.20. Marathon PB 2.48. Just an ordinary Joe Blow who trained bloody hard. Just sayin!

nfl side from memory - offered him a small fortune but he couldn't get out of the deal with the demons

If people continually post rumours that turn out to be rubbish I’ll call them out. If they can’t handle someone making them accountable, they should quit posting them. Thank you for your feedback though.

You don't call them out. You continually bait. There's a difference.

You're right, I shouldn't respond, even if it is with one of the countless rumours he got completely wrong in the past, but he seems to get a free pass on here because he sometimes posts jokes.

Just like Watts to Geelong eh? That’s embarrassing. Your new hashtag should be #ETthetradefaker

WOW !  There are  more eventful days  with the rumours circling more than during the season proper.

I would trade Burgess for a 1st and  an early 2nd round picks no less.   I think the Crows would be happy  with that.

In all honesty Burgo has been great and kept the guys on the park more so than l can remember. I think he is well paid or he wouldn't have taken the position Imo.

Melbourne targeted Burgo and that was well before the COVID 19. Why would he leave us after a year ?    censored the Crows!

There's plenty more of those. Always handy when someone uses a hashtag.

Just saw this. I’m suspect on that 3 year part.

Surely if there is 2 years remaining on his contract he can’t just leave without breaching his contract.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
