True but he still has a year on his contract and perhaps her wants to see the direction we are going before putting pen to paper.

I think he definitely wants to see the direction the club is going. I don’t blame him. No finals next year and I think he walks. Massive year ahead for the club.

Didn't know Goody had that big a family.

I dare say he won't be the only one to walk or request a trade. If we fail to make finals again next year they'll be a line out the door.

I reckon he likes the club, he’s mates with many of the players on the list, he was grateful we drafted him, and he’s previously said he wants to win a flag with us.

That’s just based on observations through following the club as a supporter - nothing else. He just doesn’t seem to be a flight risk, other than if he’s not being sufficiently rated internally and not being paid properly (which plainly he would be).

I saw this topic was “hot” and thought something of note may have been said, but now realise that hot relates to air.

That's always been my impression of him but great players like him must loathe watching other teams play finals year in year out.

The thing that puzzles me about this rumour is the Carlton part. They are no closer than us. At times I think they are ahead but they always end up disappointing.

I guess they make a good sale pitch with their facilities and history (in terms of Big 4 club) but they don't have any more current runs on the board.

Now if the rumour was the Saints I'd be more worried as they've clearly overtaken us. I'd be [censored] myself if the rumour was the Cats or Tigers.

So true but let’s not compare Clarry with McClean?

Oh turn it up.   As if you'd know one way or the other.

Yes must be true it has been said on demonland and Facebook, Viney's uncoachable can't play with Bradshaw and now can't play in the same midfield as Oliver, Viney must have some dirt on the whole football department, because if all of these things are true he would have been delisted. Did you get my sarcasm

Saints ? Won 1 more game than us and we beat them.

Merrett came out publicly today and said he was staying, which will probably save about 5 million hours of collective sh*t talking between now and the draft. Would be nice if Clayton does the same.

He shouldn't have to considering this entire rumour is based on nothing.  His manager, and the club, have rubbished it and rightly so.  That's all that needs to be said.

Not suggesting you are wrong, I just haven’t seen his manager or the club rubbish the rumour.  I have heard people say his manager and the club have rubbished the rumours, but no evidence they have actually done that.

Regardless, nice touch by Merrett. He didn’t need to do that, but I think that strengthens rapport with supporters.

It's not based on rubbish. We need to stop saying this.

There is fuel there, but hopefully we play well in 2021 and he re-signs half way through the season while we're sitting in the top 4.

Yes, I can understand his frustration, which is only natural.  But that would be common amongst many players at any given time.

But wanting out?  Nah.

I'm going by some journos who said they got in contact with the club and with Oliver and his manager, and both were emphatic in saying that it was rubbish and absolutely wouldn't be happening.

Whatever makes you sleep mate.

I think most here assume it won’t happen largely because he is contracted and Melbourne’s demands would be ridiculously high (if they aren’t I would riot) but he is clearly somewhere on the scale of  ‘disgruntled’ and ‘requesting a trade’. All I am saying is typically when they’re closer to the ‘disgruntled’ end of the scale there is a puff piece from the club saying ‘he was disappointed but is fired up for a preseason with the boiz’ (ala Merrett)... some vague comments weeks ago from journos doesn’t ease my fears he might be closer to the other end of the scale...

"Well I didn't hear anything, so that must mean no one did and it's all rubbish because I say so."

Ok then.

Seriously think part off the problem steams from people on here keep mentioning it and make it a story, when more than likely there's nothing to it.

He may have been fustrated with something but doesn't mean to the extreme of wanting out and giving up on his mates that easily.

There's grey in between though.

It's not a matter of either he's requesting a trade tomorrow or it's all 100% complete rubbish.

When is the last time you saw a top 5 player at a Melbourne based club leave and go to another Melbourne based club, it simply doesn’t happen, almost every move essentially falls into go home factor, the only moves that happen between Melbourne based clubs are ones where the player is pushed.

Oliver will never leave Dees for another club unless we want him gone

FWIW Gawn was asked on afl 360 tonight and said that he asked Clarry at the Brownlow count, and he told him that he was staying , joked something to the effect about Trac getting more attention this year and that got misconstrued in the wrong circles etc

In fairness wise you were also rubbishing the same journo's who said prior to that Oliver was not happy with the club.

Oliver is not going anywhere, I think we can both agree on that. I'll be more worried next year if we get to round 10 and he hasn't re-signed and we're not sitting in the 8...

A few posters with a history of good intelligence have said the same thing in that he is disgruntled - so on the balances of probabilities l accept that he is. Hopefully its not at the point of leaving. I will be nervous about this one until the trade period is over. To me he comes across as a little immature and a touch over confident not always in a good way

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
