Some very harsh judgements of Oliver on here.

Forget the bnf, spots 3-5 were separated by a miniscule amount.  He was in the AA squad.  He was at the top of most KPI's for a midfielder.  He is 23 yo.  Anyone looking at him as to why we missed finals are way off the mark.  He is a key reason we ended up 9th.

If 18 of his teammates trained and played like he does finals would be beyond doubt.  If they lift their game his would go thru the roof.

I've resisted commenting hoping it would just go away, but seeing this thread sitting near the top of the forum each time I come on Demonland is stress inducing.

Oliver is about as close to untradeable as you can get in my opinion. I rate him right up alongside Petracca, only difference is Oliver has been top shelf from the minute he walked into the side as an 18 year old.

If they trade Oliver we are stuffed we can't afford to trade him  EVER.

Its all just absolute nonsense.. this would have to be the poster child for nonsense trade talk that snowballs into mass hysteria. Oliver is not going anywhere, does not want to leave, club would not entertain the idea of trading him.

Oliver was grumpy towards the end of the year and a bit frustrated, he is driven and to be fair is probably on the selfish side, BnF results, All Aus, Brownlow any accolades are important to him, some people value that, others dont.

Mclure started this with a flippant, inaccurate comment about him being unhappy at the club and put little context around it.. its since spread and now the most over rated germalist in Barrett is fueling the fire with a ridiculous comment in his grade 3 level article on the AFL site today.

Saying Carlton want Oliver is like saying Melbourne want Martin.. of course they want him,  and they would have asked the question.

Oliver will be red and blue in 2021 and i believe beyond.

Below is the Barrett article on AFL News today.  If this isn't click bait I don't know what is and the thread should be shut down. I have boldened the type on the words "...May...", not Barrett

"...IF ...

there's a player the Blues may still want to add to their list alongside the soon-to-be official acquisitions of Williams and Saad ... THEN ...

it may be the contracted Demon Clayton Oliver..."

It may also be Fyffe, or Treloar, or Pendlebury, or Martin, or , Dangerfield, ... or,.... or.....................

Barret no doubt has a KPI for bonus or salary on Views per Article, and possibly, number of times he is re-quoted, like I am doing. He's a hack and this is a brillaint piece of tabloid journalism gaming the process.

Again - close this thread and lets not hear any more about it. Hutchy would be so proud of him.

Well said, both Mclure and Barrett seem to do this every trade period.

This is the man that for about 5 seasons he said the Dees are going to trade watts, yes he got it right after 5 years saying the same thing every year

it's not just the journos, clint

player managers have a lot to answer for, planting fake suggestions to journos and other clubs to raise a player's profile. sometimes for this year or setting the ground for next year

in clarrie's case i think it is just a ruse to raise his contract extension value with mfc next year (probably early next year}

Yep nailed it

Completely agree mate. Ridiculous how harsh some judge him. I hope Goodwin's not in the same camp as some of our supporters.

Feel free not to click on the link to this thread. That is your freedom of choice.

Straight swap for Preuss?

I'd want Whitfield out of that deal.

Oliver needs to play better. Either:

1. He doesn’t believe it.

2. He knows it and wants to be at another club that lets him do it.

Both scenarios require a change. The best changes should be the coaching (assistant or senior) and the midfield mix.

If the club doesn’t want to make those changes and instead wants to trade Oliver it would be one heck of a call.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
