I have a medical background and, without knowing the details with Higgins, I doubt there will be further issues.

A few journos going with Higgins to Stk though.

Richmond fans laughing at the idea he is fast (I assumed he was). Makes sense as to why he hasn’t been getting a game there. Still want his footy smarts - would be a good partner to Kozzy

I want Higgins to us Bad!!! Will give us two crumbing forwards to go with potentially 3 talls and then a petracca/melksham/hunt as the 6th forward. Much better than having another slow non-pressure-type forward sitting there (like Jones resting forward).

That probably discounts us then. We'd need him to play forward. We're already going to have a number of mids playing as forwards, we probably don't need to add another. If Higgins was prepared to play forward only, I'd take him.

I think that would be his long term view (being a mid), but first priority is getting to a club that will see him get game time.  I think he would have a lot of miles to run to get his tank up to consistent midfield minutes in any event. I wouldn't see that preference limiting the fit between Higgins and us.

I think it is interesting to note that when we talk about our bottom 4 or 5 players on match day, almost all of them play in the forward line. ANB, AVB, Jones, Hannan, maybe even Melksham this year.

We keep talking about mid/forward connection, but it must be difficult when all of your weakest players on the field every week essentially play the same position.

Higgins has kicked 29 goals in 43 games....    for a so called specialist small forward thats poor.   Same average as Spargo.

 Doesnt apply much pressure either.

We have a bit of a history of keeping tabs and recruiting players they were keen on in there draft year with the likes of Lever and Langdon as recent examples. I wonder/hope we have kept the lines open with the management of Butters and Georgiades for future years. Hard to see them leaving anytime soon though.

Yeah, I totally agree with this. We need dedicated, specialist small forwards.

Surely we're into this guy? His name has been thrown around a bit (not linked with us though I don't think):

Does he want out of West Coast?

We also need more midfielders with good kicking skills and dash. He could rotate midfield, wing, forward and it'd make us a better team IMO.

higgins or maybe i'd consider narkle more suited to this role?

also i'm concerned that there are some really good smalls available or at least unsigned and @Dr evilhas flagged hind as the one we're most into and having conversations with. any or all of aarts, ronke, lachie schultz, brad close i'd rank ahead of hind...

I haven’t been paying too much attention to him tbh but the general consensus on here is that he’d be a great pick-up. But it does beg the question, if he’s so good why are Richmond letting him go? I know they have quality forwards but still. Having said that they  did let Butler go last year and he has been a great addition for the saints.

if we do recruit him hopefully he turns out more Langdon than Ben Kennedy!

Jeez if he’s a possible target to get out of WC he’s exactly what we’re looking for.

I may get shot down as this kid could potentially be another Jayden Hunt.

But IMO I think he could be better.

Jack Petruccelle from West Coast? Kid is lightning fast and young? Could develop into a long term winger?

petch just signed a 3yr deal last month, they like him and given willie and venables are in strife longterm. he's definitely required.

i'd be willing to take a speculative on a 1yr deal this time around allowing spargo and bedford a proper run at it and next year we make space for tippa.

defensively i see TLangdon a pretty good chance to come across given the logjam at the pies and he was always keen to play with brother Ed, they're as tight as it comes. good timing with jetta, kk falling off the list and maybe hibbo and hore not up to it there could be a spot for him down there

How's the kick from Frosty, sums it up doesn't it ?

I like the idea of Tom joining Ed. But isn't his knee a problem?

IIRC the club really wanted to draft Petrucelle but unfortunately didnt slide our way. With West Coast bringing in Zac Langdon he may get squeezed out of a forward role. I dont mind this as a more left field option, but I dont think he has the skills to play on the wing and is more of the Jayden Hunt role atm. Great at getting out the back and snagging goals and probably applies a bit more pressure, but I think the club would stick with Hunt at this stage.

we won't go near walla i don't think; his commitment to effort has been under serious question for a while now

and tom langdon's knee would rule him out from any recruitment you'd think; degenerative bone-on-bone is pretty much impossible to overcome

Yes.

If someone wanted to sum Frost up in one piece of vision this is it. Great speed and great chase, butchers the kick and I vaguely remember they ended up with a shot on goal anyway.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
