No toys were thrown out just making a point about individuals like yourself who try and discredit a person every time they post something.
Hannebery left Sydney and we were in the frame but missed out, luckily I might add.
It’s never a done deal until it’s signed as players change their minds, other clubs get involved or the club involved pulls out.
I get told things that I’m happy to share as I enjoy the discussion and I know others do also.

Appreciate the intel you post when you get it. It’s easy enough for us to separate the posters who actually have intel over the Tom Browne types. Cheers ?

I’ve heard we’re massively into Saad.

Saad is a great player but we are spending too much coin on our back line and neglecting our forward line

Isn't that the precise same selling point we have right now?

It's never easy attracting talent when you're one of the smaller clubs, let alone one which never plays finals, but we've done it before and we should be able to do it again.

I hope so, we'll need it! Maybe next year, aye?

Go Dees.

Tend to agree. But every team needs good ball users and line breakers out of the backline - it makes the forward line look better.

Our backline next year is:

May, Lever, Salem, Rivers. If we move 1 of Salem or Rivers to the midfield then it's down to 3. Who's going to fill the last 4 spots?

Hibberd 1 more year and not an automatic selection. Tomlinson and Lockhart are suspect at AFL level, they shouldn't be plan A without a decent plan B.

Oscar? Smith? Chandler? Hore? Nietschke? Petty (might be needed forward).
Jetta, KK, Wagner likely go.

Port and Richmond are 2 of the best backlines in the league, very hard to get games in. Webster was a good player for a long time, Ratten is just making sure the side has some youth. I'm happy to listen to any other suggestions as well. Either way I think we need to bring in some cheap defensive depth options.

I'm still for moving Sparrow back, I know you're not keen on his disposal but he seems to have tidied up a bit.

Good size, strength and reasonable leg speed.

I just don't see him as a mid, doesn't find the ball.

The obvious replacement for Jetta, another who couldn't find the ball further up the ground.

We ain't getting a big fish.

Saad, Smith, Mihocek IN

T. Mac, Pruess OUT

Those 3 ins would add up to the impact of a so called big fish. That's why I don't see all 3 happening. Salad and another B grader at most.

Smith, Gunston and Briest all look too happy to change things radically. Mihocek probably as well.

Autocorrected Adam Saad. May as well leave it for a laugh!

if that's the case, any interest in jamie macmillan as a delisted free agent?

u cant say you'd consider him at 28 ahead of witherden, cumming, saad?

witherden - out of favour 3rd rounder gets it done

cumming OOC - 3rd rounder gets it done

saad OOC early second rounder and swap some late ones probably gets it done

i didn't say that, did i?

i'd take all three of those blokes over macmillan but the latter is a dfa and will be, as @DeeSpencer indicated he's interested in, immediate defensive depth for nothing

i would definitely be keen on witherden but peptides nutters think a) saad won't leave and 2) he's worth a first round pick (lol)

Where's Norm's gif? Hell no useless he is the main reason North are so bad.

Witherden, Saad, Williams, Philips and Stephenson excite me the rest of the players who have been mentioned don't.

Rumours can be fun but we've had some posters go above & beyond.

Misleading would be a kind word.

That's where it's no longer fun.

Yeh but it's not gospel. If you're stupid enough to take it all seriously you might need another hobby.

*** i dont mean you as in you @rjay just a general reference.

People jist need to take a deep breath and move on.

A little, but I'm not sure he has a clear role these days. Lacks a bit of skill and speed for half back, lacks a bit of size and ability in the contest for a deeper role.

And he's a smart guy who probably has a lot of other things he could be doing. I'm surprised North haven't kept him around for one more year  as a good character guy whilst they chop so much from the list. It might well be that he's ready to get a real job rather than risk his body for 100k a year in the 2's.

Saad interests me but we might not be able to get it done. It's also a lot to give up for a 26 year old. Cumming if he's cheap. Witherden concerns me. Looks a million dollars against bad teams but under pressure he falters. There's a reason he's not getting games for Brisbane right now. If it really is a 3rd rounder and not a huge contract then fine, but I'm not sure that will be the case.

His decision making in particular was far more advanced than I expected. I'm certainly not against trying him there. I'd test him more on a flank before deciding he has the shutdown qualities of someone like Nev.

I think we've been so spoilt by young mids who can come in and get 30 touches that we forget it's ok to have mids who get 15 and do other things well. In fact we're probably a better side with a guy like Sparrow who has a defensive focus and skirts the packs more than diving head first in to them with our other mids.

I think we should have a crack at Riley Collier-Dawkins. I know inside mid isn't what we need but this kid is a big body with legspeed and a heap of potential. If we're been bold and willing to let go of Viney or others we shouldn't be afraid to make a few offers.

Worst case scenario is it keeps Richmond honest and ups what they have to pay him.

Seems to be a lot of key fwds on the move this year, if dees want one it will happen. If a Ben Brown or Daniher is out of the question due to cost and injury then even some one like a hooker could straighten us up until Jackson is ready, but as we saw with the King Brothers this year that day can come quickly

Posted

Surely we would look at Ben Brown. I know he is goofy and had a rubbish year, but the bloke is an old-school lead/mark forward. Precisely what we need, along with another rebounding defender IMO. I would have said another winger too, but I thought Baker showed enough to have another go around.

One I haven’t seen mentioned yet: Ben Ronke

Has struggled with injury and been unable to recapture his form of 2018 which compares pretty favorably to Papley and Butler’s this year. Vastly more talented than Spargo/Bedford and would likely come for a third round pick.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
