More likely Hibberd, Lockhart (ifย he's ever allowed out of the doghouse) will take Jetta's spot.

I do hope Jetta returns to his old form.

He has been an incredible player and maybe still will be.

Who is a chance to come back in next week.

Bad week for Weed to play his third shocker in a row

Afraid Weid has regressed to his 2019 form. Even if he is down on confidence he must raise his intensity.

GWS tried their guts out last night.ย  Much like us they had been pretty average the last few weeks and were not getting team efforts.ย  They looked a 10 goal better team on paper imo.ย  Had we played like last few weeks it would have got ugly.ย  We fought hard and more than anything it gives us hope for the future.ย  One of best games we played all year vs a decent opposition who turned up to play.ย  That in itself for MFC should enthuse you.ย

Too little ,Too late .

Watching theย Sydney and Freo Games drained me of any enthusiasm, hope,or optomism for the future under the current coaching set-up.

It was like being bled to death by leeches.

Yes-hes 30 but we save him till the end of the year.Run around like headless chooks for the season with inexperience everywhere instead.

Another strange one.

We'll get in some good assistant coaches at least after the year we have had.ย  Maybe another video series in 2021 to give you some hope. To Hell and Beyond!ย

Great win,ย Great coaching from the opening with Trac forward. Young blokes showed some dash and dare.

Likely shows how unbalanced we were playing all of Trac, Oliver, Viney, Harmes, Brayshaw and Jones. Individually good but to much of a likeness.

I dont think its confidence. Maybe we should consider in a shortened year the young 40 game player who has been the key target in 11 straight games may be tiring? Its not like with LJ and Petty out and TMacs form weโ€™ve had viable options to give him a rest.ย He has clearly dropped off his impact but his effort is still there and he is halving more contests than not. Hopefully a weeks break will rechargeย him for the Bombers.ย

What about?

Didn't seem to be anything specific. Looked to me like he wasn't entertaining leading questions setting any kind of press narrative. E.gย  towards the end was asked about Rivers' game and if we had "a find" as though it was luck, which he shot down as being due to the good work of our recruitment team.

ย He seemed short and to the point, less meandering cliches, perhaps reflecting the team's focus on next week and the job not yet being done.

Whilst he is not directly having a massive impact. Melksham into the midfield in a defensive role improved both our midfield and forward dynamic tonight.ย

How good was it to see him on the boundary at the end, like a โ€œfootballโ€ manager pacing the sidelines. It looks like he should do it more often as he seems to get his message across better and faster to the group.ย

Does the AFL have a ban on coaches using megaphones?ย  Either that or a lot of coaches are getting laryngitis for little effect.ย  Wouldn't make much sense when there is a crowd but this year, why not?

Yes, I have always thought we can get carried away with midfielders for just getting touches. Especially rucking to Max. I love to see it mixed up.ย

When I saw that I couldnโ€™t believe it was allowed, isnโ€™t the free supposed to go to the player who won the free ie Trac should have been called back to take his free? Or was it an advantage play on? Even then I thought it had to be Trac to take the ball to take the advantage.

I thought the same thing. It is ok only if it's called advantage but I didn't think they did. Wrong decision by the umpires.ย

ย

There was also a bizarre call against GWS early "you can't handball to a player who is crossing the mark", and I am 99.9% sure than is not a real rule (unless it's been added in recent seasons).

totally agree. The Sydney and Freo games taught us that we have a soft underbelly and whilst some supporters have a short memory, those performances are the reasons we missed finals. We'll never go anywhere with Goodwin at the helm.ย

Was pleased to see that Max whacked the ball forward a couple of times at bounces.

Canย someone please tell me how AFL listed players can set up at a stoppage like this? When your season is on the line with 17 seconds to go and we're up by 5 points we set up with this trash! This is a knock on the players and Goodwin.

The issues areย as follows:

- Literally no-one on Kelly at the stoppage. Who was arguably their best player onย the night.

-Petracca not playing goal side of Tom Green. He isn'tย even next to him. Tom Green wins the clearance gets the ball moving forward.

ย -Langdon guards space and allows Perryman to run unmanned into the stoppageย and get to the ball.

This is commonsense fellas and it's reasons like this that cost us clearance and games time and time again.

How is this commonsense not engrained in the players yet.

Someone mentioned that some of the coaches thought our midfield was uncoachable.ย  Would not surprise me if that revolved around JV.ย  If there was any truth to it anyway!ย  See Clayton and Petracca as absolutely coachable.ย  Brayshaw also seems like a smart guy and although a bit lethargic at times totally coachable too.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was Viney. ย I love his effortย and endevourย to get the ball and his courage cantย be questioned but especially against GWS i thought his disposal was quite poor and resulted in a lot of turnovers. Iย include getting caught with the ball in the turnovers. it may be that he is carrying an injury, i thought at times last year he did haveย good evasive skills but lastย night ย  ย  ย  didnt show that a lot. ย As someone else said, he needsย to realise and then playย within his limitations.ย

I think it was clear enough that Weid was Clearly going to get the loose ball and have the advantage. The umps took a long time to think about it and eventually paid it. Surprising, normally we would get screwed by this

Took the nuffy channel 7 commentators until second 1/2 game to know what they were for.

It looked totally unprofessional when they were wondering why we were wearing it in the first quarter. It seems commentators donโ€™t bother with doing their homework these days. The club media made it very clear what the jumper meant during the week.ย

Liked Spargo's game again last night.ย  To me he has got back pretty close to his 2018 form this season and shown that he has a place in the side aging forward.ย  Tough, uses the ball well and knows how to kick goals.

What I liked most about last night, was the energy and enthusiasm of the young guys. Rivers is going to be a gun, as will Pickett, but I loved the work rate of Baker and Spargo. I had written them off as NQRs, but clearly they need to be given more time in the team. That type of win will be good for them.ย
ย

Looking at things in a rose-tinted kind of way, we POTENTIALLY have a great core of young talent coming through. As long as they can be coached well and nurtured correctly and included by the senior players, we will have a veryย good list emerging.ย
ย

Rivers mentioned how much May has been helping him - we could do with a Maysie on each of our lines to help the younger guys: something we havenโ€™t had for years - gun,ย older players to encourage and lead by example.ย

I thought so, too. I haveย to admit, Iโ€™d written him off and, while he is still inconsistent, his best is very good. Tough competitor, who is a smart footballer and good field kick, I was glad to see him kick that goal from distance - something he couldnโ€™t have done in 2018.

I was told this by the coach involved why would he say it if it wasnt the case

Was good to see Tracc have a go at Mumford after he smacked Clarry. He was clearly brought in to play the man, which he did often and without the umps pulling him up for it.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
